The HTC One Isn’t Quite As Perfect As I Thought…. by toluernanes: 6:35am On Jul 09, 2013
By now, you all should already know I’m a huge fan of gadgets….and specifically android. Till last night, my perfect phone was the HTC One. Why not the Samsung Galaxy S4, you ask? Well, right from the very design of the phone, the HTC one already looks perfect while the S4, in spite of it’s really awesome specs….looks like just another Samsung phone. Sure, I understand wants to create a physically recognisable brand with their S series but c’mon! The HTC One is beautiful on the inside and out…

But it hit two snags for me tho when I checked out the full specs last night. For one (lolz) the HTC One packs one a 4MP camera! I was like; WHAT? It has become the norm for higher end phones in the region of the S3-S4, Xperia Z etc. to pack at least 8 MP of camera power. But the HTC one has just a 4MP camera. What’s up with that?

For two, I have some issues with the memory; it is un-expandable. Meaning, you can’t use a memory card on the HTC One. Sure, 32 GB is a heck of a lot of memory, but knowing myself, I can expend that 32 GB pretty quickly. Now I really wouldn’t like to find myself having to choose which to keep between this game and that video when i find myself running out of memory. Wouldn’t it be pretty cool to still be able to expand it even further?

Well, that’s it. Yeah, I know, just two flaws but they’re kind of important to me. Doesn’t mean I don’t love the HTC One any more, no. But I think if HTC has something bigger in the works, I hope they wouldn’t mind fixing these issues….
Still, if you offer me an HTC One, I would shower you with blessings!!!

If you are HTC fan as you claim, you will know that HTC is no longer using MP CAMERA but "Ultrapixel" camera. Besides, HTC one has 32/64GB versions.

@tolu:

If you are really a fan of gadgets, you should know that the number of pixels (MP) doesn't really count. A lot of stuffs come into play, like the software, hardware, sensors, exposure duration and others. The HTC one camera is an Ultrapixel camera and in my opinion performs better than the S4 in picture quality especially in low light condition.

I also feel the 32gb or 64gb memory should be adequate for most users as you will get tired of some of your games, music, videos, applications etc.... except you want to use your phone as a museum..... just saying. shocked

Couldn't resist contributing to the topic............ cool Have a great day

@OP do your freaking research. if you check gsmarena or any other specs site you would see "4 MP, 2688 x 1520 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, check quality 1/3'' sensor size, 2µm pixel size". after seeing that you Google the **** to find out what it mean, and if it was a mistake on HTC'S part. The reasons you stated are very flimsy. I say so because i just purchased an xperia z, even though i did a ton of research before buying i never noticed where people complain that the screen is prone to cracking when its in a tight pocket, or when it's charging due to heat. You can imagine my agitation. If you said that the HTC one is not your favorite Smartphone because it is radioactive or has a nuclear reactor then it is understandable but 2µm pixel size and 32/64gb memory size? grin grin

its not just about specs its about additional features it got, look it up on YouTube to know more.

And here i was thinking it was something different maybe a bug or something..the pure ultra view of the htc beats the s4 and anyone on its range(excluding lumia),go and check youtube, about the expandable thingy isnt 26gb(others for inbuilt software and updates)enough for u..i also saw somewhere that theres also the 64gb version too..theres really no problem with dat htc onehas one of the best interface out there(my take) .already htc dropped the inception of external and removeable ba3 in the one x tenure.so we dnt expect a new pattern yet!.kudos to ur review though

As for camera and video recording HTC for long has been ahead of Samsung but they seriously need to wake up. I think it's simply ridiculous to trade memory card slot and removable battery most especially, for design and aluminium body. What becomes of the phone when the battery wears and tears? A li-po battery at that.

Empty spec, for you guys that go to Gsm arena and come here and start blaming or boasting about a phone I think u guys are silly. ..............Have u ever read a spec in Gsm arena and also go to opinions and also read thru, at most times I see their spec are based on rumour not on review, I actually don't know whenever u type a phone model in Google they will just gosh out like they are 100% in their phones spec htc one is 4 ultra pixel not mega read opinions before conclusion.
Re: The HTC One Isn’t Quite As Perfect As I Thought…. by toluernanes: 12:58pm On Jul 10, 2013
You guys amaze me. Sure, there is more to the camera spec than just the numbers but then.....can't you just say that? I haven't used the HTC One
(as i'm sure I pointed out in my post) so i can't tell if in reality, it is better than the s4. Besides, what I stated is still fact, 8 MP is the new basic for super smart phones. The average phone buyer doesn't know how much better autofocus and face detection can make a picture but bases their decision on the number of MP the camera packs. Tell, me the HTC one can't do with an even better camera!

And that was all you guys could pick out of my post. I remember mentioning two snags, not one. you guys left the other one completely and focused on one minor detail. Funny thing is that i t still think the HTC One is an awesome phone and nowhere did i mention in the article that either thing made it a bad phone.

y'all are asking me to go do research when y'all failed to properly read my post. sheesh.

thanks for your civilized response. I happened to have checked out a video of the HTC One one their official site before I even posted the article. All supersmart phones of reccent come with extra camera features, no doubt (like the bb10 and time shift and all that) so maybe that was why i didn't really take them into consideration. I have never used the HTC One before so it's up to someone that has used it to say how all that really works to enhance the camera quality. Besides, i'm not new to seeing awesome specs only to get disappointed when reality hits after acquiring said phone.

If I got something wrong, it was easy for any of these guys to just say "hey bro, look, you don't quite understand. This is what you got wrong, it's not quite the way you're looking at it. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone learns. I'm being accused of being egoistic but read through their responses and see how high their horses are.

As for the memory thingy, I still think it has to be replaceable. A lot of top draw, HD games on android right now are 1gb and above. the higher camera quality means pictures and videos are now much larger meaning your memory can get filled pretty quickly (My brother's galaxy note's memory went within two weeks). I'd rather the HTC one has a 16GB and 32GB version with expandable memory than a 32/64gb model without.

it is even more disheartening to see htc one losing in the battle between htc one and xperia z on gsmarena. is it becos it is water resistant or glass claded?

Oh well lesson learnt. i saw the other fact you stated in your post but like i said its trivial. Why do i say so? you buy a 16GB galaxy s4 +32sd card = 48gb and you feel good with yourself. but its not up to the 64gb that comes with the HTC ONE.
