To the guy that said why the phrase "ada ikpele m di na ala" let me break it down for u.

In igboland(I will take anambra as case study)once a woman get married, all her children are called "nwa di ana"
If u happen to see anybody from ur mumsi side both male and female anywhere, u will prostrate.
If its a woman u will use the phrase" nne m ochie ikpele m di na ala"
If its man"nna m ochie ikpele m di na ala"
Most of d time, they will tell u "bilie nwa m"with gift or money.

I did it once as a kid. I went to my mum's place(another town) and the men where having a meeting(xmas time)
My mummy whispered to me, if u wanna make money now, go and kneel down. Made no sense to me then but I did and those that don't hv money with them promised to get something for me which they did.
But nowadays, we just see them and greet them.
Now if u visit while a cultural festival is going on or funeral and u see tons of them, u do that cos its a cultural thing though its not a must.

Its good to do a research about any culture before we start dissecting them or better still ask and somebody will explain it to u.

Such phrases doesn't exist in Anambra!
And I never bow to any Umuokpu and it's not because I have the Ozo title,rather it's because we don't bow to women. And this doesn't mean we don't show respect to our women. Again, Umuokpu are powerful and most times they achieve their aim through protests and boycotting events. Umuokpu has no power over the Nze na Ozo institution, Ndi ichie nor the Igwe in council. Say what you know and don't come trying to tell Igbo history when you know nothing about the culture. By the way,Umuokpu is different from Umuada. Umuada is the association of the married daughters of the land while Umuokpu are the priestess of the Eke market deity. There is also the Umunwanyi Odu(the ivory women) who belong to the top class and wields so much power and influence and most Umuokpus also have the ivory title. These are all powerful institution but even the towns union are more powerful than them.

Unlike other cultures in Nigeria, Ibos are matrilineal. Ibo children should take their mothers' name as surname.
