Which Is The Most Friendly Tribe In Nigeria? by DeepZone: 9:50pm On Nov 08, 2008
Yoruba seems to be the warmest, peaceful and most accepting tribe in Nigeria. How did I determine this:

1) Other tribes that live in Yoruba land do not experience any form of harassment or whatnot.

2) Least or no crime against another person that is not a native.

3) Inter tribal marriage is very high

4) Yoruba can stick their neck out because they want to protect a visitor at the expense of their own people.

5) Yorubas are more liberal than any other tribe in Nigeria

6) Because I think I am correct kiss.

If I am wrong, please do correct me and tell me the warmest and most welcoming tribe in Nigeria.

Which tribe in Nigeria should be the most aggressive with respect to the factors above?

I agree with 1, 3 and 5

should add the fact that we watch the movies of other tribes too despite the fact that Yoruba only make up 0.5% of "Nollywood"

Civilisation started in the western part of Nigeria so this is hardly a surprise.
Besides, Yoruba is not a tribe. . . .It should be Yoruba PEOPLE.
The population of the Yorubas outnumber Togo, Ghana and many West African countries. . . .
Do u say Ghana tribe??

this isn't relevant considering most nollywood movies are in english or at least subtitled in english.

It seems this is another topic that will start a fight.

You can be proud of your tribe and not insult others.

This is New.  Never knew Yoruba people protects others. Where does that happen, i don't think it's in Nigeria.

Where in Nigeria is this happening? I could have sworn alot of people in Lagos that aren't Yoruba are sometimes harrashed in that part?
I need to talk to my aunts about this.  Nigeria must have changed since last time i've visited.

P.S: I don't think Yoruba's are the friendliest.

Let me correct you since you are trying to be funny:

Yoruba is one of the most aggressive tribes in Nigeria if not the most:

1. It's only in Yorubaland that they have rental discrimination in Nigeria if not in the whole west Africa. There are many tribalist yoruba landlords in Lagos and Ibadan. Go and ask other Nigerians that are not yoruba if you want to learn.

2. I know you posted this thread because you were trying to make a story out of the Kaduna riots. Let me enlighten you, OPC have done worse every now and then. Go to Ketu, OPC is always fighting hausas and it's still a cold war up till this day.

3. Friendly? How friendly are alaaye people that harass igbos and other Nigerians everyday in Lagos island?

4. friendly and most accepting? Is kidnapping igbo traders every year a part of their warm welcome? How many times have you heard of any militant group in igboland or ijawland fighting with the yoruba community living in their land?. How many times please? Do you know how many times the oba of lagos has stopped igbos warring with OPC?

5. Can you explain to us where and when Yorubas stick their neck out to protect others?

6. Who said Nollywood? I never knew that tribalism and racism can also be shown in selecting movies. Nollywood movies sell better largely because of language barriers. How many yorubas watch igbo language movies subtitled in english?. How many of you watch French movies regularly that are subtitled in english?

7. Yoruba may be more liberal when it comes to religion and marriage and that may be the only one I will agree with but that doesn't make them the friendlist ethnic group in Nigeria. I know that majority of these women writing imaginations from their head here stay abroad and view Nigeria from Nairaland. Read news and don't be too affectionate about something. It's your dire desire to paint the hausa tribe black that made you make a fool out of yourself.

Even the eminent tribalist here, tpia wouldn't make this stupid assumption about the yorubas.

while im not getting involved in the whole tribal demagogue,i saw this and had to correct some flawed cooments on there

1.the reason why yoruba landlords dont like giving people of igbo tribe their houses or discouraging them by charging extra is because ALLEDGEDLY they never want to vacate the house when the time comes and will rather take the landlord/landlady to court and stay in the house free, i.e they become arrogant and haughty and never listen to the landlord, while i dont know if this is true or not,i have witnessed 5 diffrent cases the latest is someone very very close to me a house in ikoyi with generator e.t.c and the ibo family have been living there free for the past 3years plus because he took the case to court while the landlord is losing money,at a time he was begging the man to move out with a compensation which he rejected, once word starts getting around about stuffs like that landlords/landladys tend to get nervous, remember most of these landlords are mostly in their 50 s upwards.

2.they have opc in lagos and there is bakassi in the east, pls dont tell me they r diffrent or th people doing the bad stuffs are impostors, if yorubas and hausas in lagos are in a cold war, what about ibos and hausas?

3.the alayees harass everybody no matter your tribe,so why blowing theone of ibos out of proportion, they are the son of the soil and as far as they r concerned even if you live on the mainland you are paying levy same as an ibo hausa, yoruba e.t.c

4.where exactly have yorubas kidnapped ibos?you accuse the poster of stoking up ethnic bias, yet you are here making totally wrong and inciteful statements, where and when have yorubas kidnapped ibos everywhere??

5.they stuck their necks out to help the ibos being killed in lagos during biafra,i know of 2 notable igbos who were saved by a yoruba man pat utomi and bishop mike okonkwo, i could go on and on

6.there s tribalism in nollywood and a reflection on the movies funding e.t.c go check one of the nollywood threads where this has been adressed

i dont know the friendliest tribe but i know there has to be a reason why the yoruba tribe and culture is the most practiced all round the world in cuba, ghana, brazil, america, haiti e.t.c if you know any other reason then im all ears the oshun osogbo is the most watched by foreign visitors in spite of the lack of logistics to pull it into the 21st century

other Nigerians will mean everyone basically

Yoruba may be more liberal when it comes to religion and marriage

If you are liberal with regards to marriage then you are more accepting of other tribes

What has their age got to do with that?. Are you telling me that all the yorubas pay their house rent on time. My friend, some of them in the east do the same. How come hausa landlord in the north don't do the same to igbos or any other person irrespective of your religion?. Does it mean that igbos in the north don't take them to court? It's a lame Nigerian law and sometimes, the landlord will be the one at fault but whatever is the case, why should you judge a whole ethnic group based on that?. As a matter of fact I know a yoruba old man that rents his homes in lagos only to igbos and his son told me that it's because he claims that igbos always pay their rent on time and it's assured but the yoruba tenants come with ejoor and following long story at the end of the month. Will you as a yoruba man or an educated man agree with that man's mentality in this modern world? I thank God you acknowledged that I am saying the truth even though you as a yoruba man have not witnessed it before because it's a culture here for some parrots to deny things happening at home while they live in far away America or London.

2.they have opc in lagos and there is bakassi in the east, please don't tell me they r diffrent or th people doing the bad stuffs are impostors, if yorubas and hausas in lagos are in a cold war, what about ibos and hausas?

Igbo traders downtown lagos get a fair share of alaayes. As a matter of fact, there was a time they go from shop to shop with dagger requesting for money and it was during the time of Bola Tinibu whom they helped to elect so his hands was tied. Some Igbo traders moved their business en masse to ogun state while the remaining ones at balogun decided to challenge the alayes to a face to face war. The war was breached by the former oba of lagos(God bless his soul).

4.where exactly have yorubas kidnapped ibos?you accuse the poster of stoking up ethnic bias, yet you are here making totally wrong and inciteful statements, where and when have yorubas kidnapped ibos everywhere??

You didn't hear it last year and two months ago in owo, ondo state?. I'll post the link for you.

5.they stuck their necks out to help the ibos being killed in lagos during biafra,i know of 2 notable igbos who were saved by a yoruba man pat utomi and bishop mike okonkwo, i could go on and on
Same way some hausas helped igbos and yorubas during the kaduna carnage. Same way some igbos helped the hausas during the reprisal attack in Asaba and onitsha. Same way some white folks did for slaves that were escaping from the south to the north during slavery in America. Same way some tutsis did for noble hutsi families and so on. That is a general human characteristics and attributing it to yorubas alone made it look like others are cannibals that can never do the same thing for others. May I remind you that there has never been a post war event in Igbo land where Yorubas are massacred so we don't have a true test of that factor yet and we don't pray for a situation to arise that will require yorubas living in our homeland to seek such help.

6.there s tribalism in nollywood and a reflection on the movies funding e.t.c go check one of the nollywood threads where this has been adressed

That is not tribalism. It's called funding period. Do you know how many Igbo men and women that will wish to achieve what omotola jalade, Desmond Elliot and most big Nollywood yoruba stars have achieved? If tribalism is the watch word there, the aforementioned wouldn't have gone up in the careers. Have you asked yourself why it's usually the yorubas(98% of the time) that complain about this so called tribalism in Nollywood?. Why not Edos, Hausas etc?

i don't know the friendliest tribe but i know there has to be a reason why the yoruba tribe and culture is the most practiced all round the world in cuba, ghana, brazil, america, haiti e.t.c if you know any other reason then I'm all ears the oshun osogbo is the most watched by foreign visitors in spite of the lack of logistics to pull it into the 21st century
It was due to emigration and slavery. The yorubas in Brazil and the reast of Americas were sold as slaves to those areas en masse and their masters were not as paranoid as the American slave masters that made sure their slaves lost everything about them including their names and it worked out pretty good for them.

The truth is that Fumi created this thread because she has an agenda which is the issue of Kaduna riots but she was so anxious to discredit the north in that she wouldn't mind shooting herself in the leg in order to achieve that. There is no friendliest or most aggressive tribe in Nigeria. It's an individual thing.

Good luck and sorry to bust your bubble, there are many igbo movies in the market now but many of them are sold at Iweka road, that is where the market abound. You can keep your volumes of afghan movies to yourself but if you use your common sense at all you may ask yourself why 90% yoruba movies are consumed by only yorubas if language is not a barrier in movie business? Since yorubas always claim their movies are top notch, why are they not selling in volumes across Africa alone how much less in the west?. I can't remember a particular secesssion thread i read recently where somebody said that all this break up rumours about Nigeria only happens on NL and not in real life, in the same vein I can claim the same about the yoruba movie euphoria. Come out in the field and get real experience. Anu mpam.

by the way, Omenuko is another epic igbo language one due for release very soon. If you ask, it shall be given unto you, don't assume there are none because you see Nollywood movies and crappy yoruba movies shot with a pin hole camera in the stalls near you.
