D source puts d population of Isoko pple at 2.1 million. I doubt that figure. From which census was dat figure gotten? That figure only exist in d imagination of d source. Apart from Oleh and Ozoro which are d headquarters of Isoko south and Isoko North respectively, and prehaps Irri etc, all other Isoko towns have very insignificant population. How many Isoko pple are based outside Delta State? If Isoko pple are upto 2.1 million, then d Urhobos should be upto 6 million pple. The Isokos have 2.1 million pple and they still can't define their place in the political control of Delta State?

That's why personal opinion was clearly written after it. Everyone is entitled to that. If I say Urhobos are 30million, that's my opinion. The opinion may be based on one or more factors. Anyway, to be specific, the national population census puts the Isokos under a million. Even though I'm urhobo, I disagree with that number.

OP nice piece of information. I got lot of information from what you wrote but my concern is this DEEGWOO and MEGWO thing threw me off balance. Why double E appeared after D in the DEEGWOO and double O after W? Sounds too long. I need proper explanation.

Urhobo & Isoko are very tonal languages. Isoko is particularly a stress based language. I extended the alphabets to create a sense of that stress. Phonetically, the word is realised as /di:gw):/

BUT THEY ARE VERY VERY VERY CUNNY AND WAYOISH
and u think u just said something meaningful abi? ur type brings insult to ur entire folks. God help u. Oga O.P let me help correct one point u made.....the Isoko greeting ideally is 'Me ri gwe' meaning I am on my knees......the response is 'Vre do'....Meaning 'stand up, thanks'......Urhobo greeting ideally is ' Mi Chi gwe'.......which also means 'I am on my knees'. the response is same 'Vre Do'....which also means 'stand up, thanks'. Meegwo and Deegwo are anglicized versions of the greetings. thanks for doing justice to the history of my people. Proudly from Uzere. Proudly Isoko. Proudly Delta State. and Proudly Nigerian.

The truth is that I am of the opinion that isoko is a dialect of Urhobo. Although isoko is more of a proto-edoid language than urhobo. Both languages evolved from Edo and of the two of them, isoko is closer to Edo than urhobo which proves the theory that isoko might be older than urhobo. Other than that, the languages are the same. It's just that the intonation of isoko is different from that of Urhobo and that makes isoko more musical. Isokos also repeat a lot. Some words are also different while others are mainly variants in terms of pronunciation.
I.e. Urhobo will say Yanrobone meaning come here whilst Isokos will say Yanzobone Yanzobone
Notice the deliberate repetition and minor variation. Linguistically, the languages are exactly like what you described earlier.

Culturally, isoko & urhobo are virtually the same. They believe in the same concept of life, they have the same religions, philosophy, world view, songs, etc. They are just a faction of Urhobo just like the Okpes and Uvwies. Furthermore, isoko has common myths with urhobo and can perfectly hear urhobo. Urhobos maybe able to hear isoko with a little focus. But because of political reasons, the Isokos deemed it fit that they have their autonomy as an ethno-linguistic group. This was granted them in the 50s but I don't think it is to their favor because they are the smallest minority now in Delta State and have just 2 LGAs. If they had been with the Urhobos, perhaps they would have fared better. Perhaps... The judgment is thus simple; Isokos are politically seen as a distinct group whereas they are culturally & linguistically the same.

send me ur account number, I need pay u something for this clarity. u try cool

For Isoko as a whole no, Ehwreni people are of Igbo descent, even till date they still use some Igbo words like ngaji for spoon etc
warripekin:
I thought they said isokos and ehwreni people are igbos who came from across the river Niger hunting for elephants. And isokos apart from language similarity with the uhrobo also speak a little Bini and a little Igbo. Their girls are pretty shaa. They can be fair like Igbo girls.
I will like to meet someone from Ehwreni.

Ogor clan of the urhobos is the closest to decent to the Binis. Owhowha was sent on exile from benin, he was a rebelious benin prince. He gave birth to Ogor, ughelli, Agbara, Orogun. He settled down in the present day Otor-ogor. The clans metioned above are the only ones that have hereditory monarchs i.e Ovie like the benin obas.

Urhobos left their african spacecraft in benin. But the isokos make use of their own spacecraft till date wink. I see no difference between the isokos and urhobo.

I am proud to be an Isoko.

This list of prominent Isoko sons and daughters is incomplete without the mention of Cornelius Adam Igbudu-the founder of Aglican preaching society of the Aglican Church and Chief paul Omu.

Who said the whole Delta is an Igboland?
Delta is just a name given to the different group of people in a geographical land.....
Igbos have some part of Delta.
Urhobos has their own part...
Itshekiris has theirs.
So as the Isoko have theirs....
This was the past northerns leaders handiwork....
Do you remember the 2014 national conference plan to create more additional states??
