According to the infallible word of God i.e The Bible; EVERY Bible believing, Born-again Christian, who is Saved by the Grace of God through Faith only in Jesus Christ(Acts 4:12), is a Son of the Living God.
God said so Himself in Matthew, and also through the Apostles in Romans, Hebrews, Galatians, etc.
Therefore, I can boldly say I am a Son of God! because I am a Bible believing, born again Christian, and I believe that my salvation is not of works, but by the Grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, the first Son of God who is my Lord and Saviour.

If the Pope can say that of himself, then he is also a Son of God. However, Sonship of God is NOT in the title you have, or position you occupy (e.g Bishop, Pope, Pastor, Evangelist or Head Usher, Area Pastor, etc), it is through personal faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as atonement for sin, and in ressurection of Jesus Christ.
In other words, Sonship is about the personal relationship with God, and not in title or tradition. Peace!

Actually, the expression 'vicarius filii dei' means Vicar or Representative of the Son of God, rather than just "the Son of God".

Christians are also called "sons of God" (John 1:12; Rom. 8:14; & I John 3:1-2); but this in no way compares to Him who is uniquely 'THE Son of God' (Matt. 14:33; 16:16; 27:43 & John 10:36). He was always the divine Son; whereas, we became "sons" by believing in His name (John 1:12).

Christians are called to be representatives of Christ on earth; and the various expressions used in Scripture to indicate this are well established. - you'll find that the notion of the Pope wearing the "vicarius filii dei" is yet un[/b]proven. Even the Seventh Day Adventist church had to drop the charge as they were never able to solidly prove that such actually happened.

The Pope forgiving one's sins is another matter for discussion - which may not be the same thing alleged by the topic of this thread seeking to address the 'Pope called Son of God'.

Besides, what did the Lord Jesus mean in [b]John 20:23? --- "Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained."
