God's Unchanging word – Part 2

There are many misconceptions about the role of Jesus Christ, especially by religious people. One such misconception is that Jesus came to override the Old Testament scriptures. But nothing could be farther from the truth. He emphatically declared: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets.”

“The law and the prophets” refer to the whole of the Old Testament (Matthew 11:13; 22:36-40; John 1:45; Acts 13:15; 28:23). Our Lord’s authority did not contradict or cancel the authority of the Scriptures. Jesus Christ upheld the permanence of the Scriptures. His message and God's written Word are inseparable. As God does not change (Malachi 3:6), His Word also does not change.

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets.” In its most limited sense, “the law” referred to the Ten Commandments. In a broader sense, it was used to refer to the Pentateuch, the five books of Moses. In a still broader sense, it was used to speak of the entire Old Testament (Romans 13:8-10; James 2:8-11; John 7:19-23; Matthew 5:18; Luke 16:16,17).

The prophets reiterated and reinforced the law. All their warnings, admonitions and predictions were directly or indirectly based on the Mosaic Law. God’s revelation to the prophets was an extension of His law. The foundation of the Old Testament was the law given in the Pentateuch, which the prophets, psalmists, and other inspired writers preached, expounded and applied.

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets.” There were thoughts and speculations among the religious leaders and the common people concerning the purpose of Christ’s coming. Did He come to destroy the law? Was His ministry to cancel the moral law and make the nation lawless and ungovernable? No. The moral law is God’s foundational standard for righteous living. Jesus fulfilled the moral law by His perfect righteousness and preached the necessity of repentance and righteousness.

Did He come to destroy the judicial law, which was given to provide unique identity for Israel as a nation? No. He came to fulfil the law, to pay the penalty of the broken law for the whole nation and the whole world. Did He come to destroy the ceremonial law – the law of sacrifices? No. He came to fulfil the law by offering Himself as the final sacrifice, the perfect sacrifice. Having fulfilled the law of the sacrificial system, He brought all the other sacrifices to an end.

God's Unchanging Word – Part 2
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

Jesus Christ upheld the permanence of God's Word. He required inward and outward obedience to God's Word. He, Himself, lived to “fulfil all righteousness" and inspired His disciples to “hunger and thirst after righteousness."

“I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." Christ came to fulfil “the law and the prophets" in its fullness. He submitted Himself to God totally and obeyed His Word perfectly. He fulfilled the commandments, statutes, types, prophecies and all the declarations in all details. From conception to crucifixion, in His incarnation, life and ministry, His work and miracles, His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus fulfilled all “the law and the prophets."

Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures by fully meeting its demands. In His life, He perfectly kept every part of God's Word. He was perfectly righteous and did not violate the smallest part of God's law. He was utterly flawless in His obedience and He has provided the perfect model of righteousness for us. The moral law fulfilled by Christ is still being fulfilled through His disciples. He gives grace to all who belong to Him to walk in obedience and righteousness.

“The disciple is not above his master; nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord" (Matthew 10:24,25).

If Christ, our Lord and Saviour, our Master and Perfect Example, did not come to destroy “the law and the prophets," none of His true followers will ever attempt to destroy God's Word by their character, conduct, doctrine, ministry or influence. Christ held God's Word in high esteem, upheld the Scriptures as sacred and proclaimed the Word as infallible. So will every true believer regard every part and detail of God's Word as sacred, infallible and authoritative.

As Christ came to fulfil God's written Word to the minutest detail, so must we be willing to fulfil it, that is, obey God's Word. It is written of Christ, “Lo, I come to do Thy will, O God" (Hebrews 10:7). He, Himself, declared, “Thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness" (Matthew 3:15). “He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked" (1 John 2:6).

Peter, the apostle, warned people about ALL MOGs (False Prophets and Teachers), from about 2000 years ago.

2 Peter 2 vs 1-7 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. In the past there were false prophets among God’s people. It is the same now. You will have some false teachers in your group. They will teach things that are wrong—ideas that will cause people to be lost. And they will teach in a way that will be hard for you to see that they are wrong. They will even refuse to follow the Master who bought their freedom. And so they will quickly destroy themselves.
2. Many people will follow them in the morally wrong things they do. And because of them, others will say bad things about the way of truth we follow.
3. These false teachers only want your money. So they will use you by telling you things that are not true. But the judgment against these false teachers has been ready for a long time. And they will not escape God who will destroy them.

4. When angels sinned, God did not let them go free without punishment. He sent them to hell. He put those angels in caves of darkness, where they are being held until the time when God will judge them.

5. And God punished the evil people who lived long ago. He brought a flood to the world that was full of people who were against God. But he saved Noah and seven other people with him. Noah was a man who told people about living right.

6. God also punished the evil cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. He burned them until there was nothing left but ashes. He used those cities as an example of what will happen to people who are against God.
7. But he saved Lot, a good man who lived there. Lot was greatly troubled by the morally bad lives of those evil people. 8 This good man lived with those evil people every day, and his good heart was hurt by the evil things he saw and heard.
What peter said is indeed what we see happening here and now. Because of the AntiChrists also called MOGs, the world does not view Jesus Christ in a good light at all. You simply mention that you believe in the God of the Bible, and almost immediately you see the detest in their looks... nothing to do with persecution at all. No, they have become wary of those who claim to be Christians. The world is tired of the lies and deceit of MOGs - the hypocrisy that is claimed and justified in the name of God.

These MOGs are the Antichrists as they have set themselves up as Masters over Jesus Christ's flock, pretending to be Teachers in His place.

Their doctrines and traditions are twisted representations of the teachings of Jesus Christ, and in many cases many are deceived and led away from the Truth of Jesus Christ as a result.

They sit themselves in the place of God in the minds of His own sheep and they steal, kill and destroy, for their own pleasure and kingdoms, that which God has planned for those who are His. And they do all of this in the name of God.
MOGs are the false prophets that Jesus Christ warned His followers to beware of. These are the antichrists that the apostles spoke of even during their days.☺

God always keeps His word. He never fails to fulfil whatever He has promised. After His resurrection, Jesus Christ assured His disciples of the certainty of His personality, authority and power as Saviour and Lord. He announced that “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth," implying that no power in heaven, on earth or anywhere can confront or hinder the glorious, majestic power the Father had vested in Him, the Builder, Owner and Head of the church.

On the strength of that, He commanded His disciples to go and teach all nations (or all communities, tribes, tongues and people) the good news of salvation. As they went, they were to baptise converts “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" and teach them all things that He had taught while He was with them. This, He commanded, because He knew that there would be people who would like to pick and choose what to obey in God's word. But if we remain faithful to Him, we will experience His presence, power and provision "always, even unto the end of the world." This also denotes that spreading the good news of the salvation from sin that Jesus brought is to continue unto the end of the world.

Therefore, Christ’s followers are to go out and preach the gospel; they are not to settle down to other businesses or into retirement. They are to go “into all the world” whatever the condition “and preach the gospel to every creature." Unfortunately, the Church has deviated from the core duty of evangelism to other less important things. It is unnecessary to worry about whether people believe or not; our duty is to preach. It is as we go out to preach the gospel that “signs shall follow" us.

God’s presence is not given indiscriminately to everyone; there is a purpose for which it is given. Moses desired to have the presence of God and God promised to give it to him for a purpose. When anyone comes into the centre of God’s will and desires to see His purpose fulfilled in his life, he begins to enjoy the privilege of His promised presence.

Moses had been saved from sin like any other sinner, yet He still prayed for more grace. There is grace for sonship with which the believer lives the righteous life and overcomes temptations; and there is grace for servanthood with which he serves in God's vineyard. Children and servants of the Lord are assured of the privilege of God’s presence in times of temptations, trials, confusion and troubles. It was through the privilege of the divine presence that Joseph overcame the suffocating hatred of his brothers; the greater the predicament he suffered in their hands and that of Potiphar, the greater the presence of God was with him.

Likewise, it is through the privilege of the divine presence that believers overcome any challenge that confronts them. God's promised presence brings prosperity and favour; it brings confirmation of the words of God’s ministers and preachers. Every promise of God will be fulfilled in the believer’s life. Those promises that were not fulfilled in the previous years will come to pass by and by. Whatever assignments God has for His people to accomplish will be achieved because of His presence. Whatever incapability or insufficiency you have been feeling will be made up by the presence of God.

When Isaiah saw the divine revelation, he saw how unqualified and insufficient he was. In the same vein, when any believer has the perception of the divine presence, he might see his corruption, defilement, shortcomings and insufficiency, but that is not to drive him away from the Lord. That the Lord is so holy and the individual unholy, and the Lord so high and a person so low should not drive the believer away from the Lord. Rather, the more he sees of God's glory and honour, the more he should approach Him for purification that comes by the fire of His presence. After the purging and purification, then can he, like Isaiah, respond, “Here am I; send me."

The presence of the Lord leads to purging because it will reveal the true spiritual state of the believer and his dire need for true righteousness and holiness. It is when he comes into the divine presence that he can pray sincerely like Job: "Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more: That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more." And like Asa, the believer, should take courage and put away every sin and go for God's purging. As he obeys God, the Lord will “suddenly come to his temple."

Whenever any believer is confronted with certain assignments that make him feel unqualified or insufficient as to ask, “Who am I, that I should” do this or that, he should not be afraid. What he needs is the presence of the Lord. The purpose of the divine presence is to get people out of bondage. This is why the believer should avoid comparing himself with any other person.

God is sending the believer to the people to say what He had told us to say. The Lord has brought us into a new DAWN and we are not only to preach, we are also to disciple the converts in every nation. We are to Disciple A Whole Nation; Demonstrate A Watchman’s Nature; Develop A Witnessing Network; Detest All Wilful Negligence; Discover A Waiting Neighbourhood; Disregard All Worrisome News; Double A Written Number, and Declare Apostolic Words Nationwide. The Lord will help us.

How To Open Heaven’s Door – Part 1

People have many esoteric ideas about prayer, one of which says that there are those better equipped to pray for you. Yet, this brief passage contains a lot for the education and edification of every child of God in every age. The privilege and power of prayer is not left on the unreachable branches of a tree of philosophy, but the branches are low enough for all members in the family to pluck the fruits. In these verses, the Lord has not given us some deep well of theological mystery with nothing to draw with; He has brought the supply of every need to the table, and we will do well to come and dine.

The opening verse supplies the key to the interpretation and application. We are to ask, seek and knock. These three verbs are in the present imperative in the original text. That simply means that they demand continual, repeated action. Ask and keep on asking until you receive; seek and go on seeking until you find; knock and continue until the door is opened. Pray and keep on praying, until the Father answers according to His promise.

The whole process is put in the family setting. We are not asking as a beggar from an unknown stranger, we are asking as a trusting child from a loving Father. We are not seeking as a traveller seeks water in a desert; we are seeking fruit as a member of the family in the family garden. We are not knocking at the door of a house guarded by wild dogs, we are knocking at the door of our Father's house, Who is waiting to open the door and receive us.

"Knock, and it shall be opened unto you." Comparing Matthew 7:7,8 with Luke 11:5-10, it is obvious that the Lord is teaching us and calling us to importunity in prayer. We often give up too soon, just before the door to heaven’s storehouse is opened. Our lack of supply is often the result of our lack of importunate supplication. A few of us are ignorant of what is in the storehouse for us. Others knock at the door of the storehouse so feebly that they are barely heard. So very few ever knock continually with a firm hand of the prayer of faith.

There was a great famine in Egypt. The famine had spread beyond Egypt to other nations. To meet the needs of all people, Joseph had beforehand filled the vast storehouses in the land. As the people came from all the lands "Joseph opened all the storehouses" (Genesis 41:56). Everyone who came received enough sustenance from the opened storehouses.

Jesus is waiting for us to come and knock at the door. Whatever our needs are, the door will be opened and we shall be satisfied with justification, salvation, regeneration, transformation, provision, restoration, sanctification, impartation, protection, preservation and finally, glorification. We are not knocking only to stop after receiving an initial supply of grace. We keep on knocking until we receive abundant grace, sufficient grace, grace for every need.

The fervency of our prayer and force of our faith often show how important our request is to us. Coming back to the illustration of knocking, the desperate man who is knocking at the door to meet a pressing need will knock differently from a casual visitor with no definite purpose.
Those who knock casually in prayer often have wandering thoughts while praying; they are formal and repeat the same phrase each prayer time; they do not have any specific need in prayer; they habitually sleep off when praying; they lack freshness of thought and have no grip on any promise of God; they do not remember what they have prayed for and they are not conscious of their spiritual state. Like the Christians in the ancient city of Laodicea, they are lukewarm in the closet, too lazy to seek urgent remedy for their spiritual malady.

Intensity in prayer is demonstrated by the righteous, whose fervent prayer avails much. Watch Jacob at Peniel; observe Elijah on mount Carmel; visit with Abraham as he intercedes for Sodom; follow Moses to the mount, where he pleads for backslidden Israel on the verge of destruction; kneel beside Daniel, as he prays for Israel's seventy-year captivity to end; feel the great heaviness and continual sorrow in Paul's heart, as he cries in prayer for the salvation of his kinsmen according to the flesh, and you will catch a glimpse of what it means to knock with importunity and intensity.

God is so eager to bless us, and if we are as eager to be blessed, our spiritual stature will change so quickly that it would be difficult to recognise us. Our lack of thoughtfulness is often our greatest hindrance. We hinder ourselves more than any enemy; demon or Satan can ever do. Holding on to iniquity or sin is the major reason we knock and knock in vain. Sin is dangerous and deadly in itself, and it also hinders the opening of heaven's door of blessing.

We commit two evils against our soul in one stroke: we poison ourselves with iniquity and at the same time prevent remedy and infinite goodness from coming to us. Repentance and cleansing in the fountain of Christ's blood will remove all hindrances. Then, we shall pray and God will answer; we shall knock and the door will be opened; and we shall also decree a thing and it shall be established unto us.

Faith In Trying Times – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
13 September 2020 | 4:15 am

These are trying times and we need to live by faith. Yet, there is nothing unique about experiencing trying times. There was a time Israel was under captivity and servitude in the land of Egypt. They went there without knowing that there would be oppression or difficulty. The Egyptian midwives were commanded to kill every son but save every daughter born by Israelite women. "And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive."

Pharaoh never wanted any future for the nation of Israel. By killing every male child, he wanted to assimilate the women into the Egyptian culture and community. It was at this period that Moses' father and mother got married and gave birth to him. Theirs was a decision of faith. As they got married by faith, they raised their children by faith. Although they were surrounded by idolatry in Egypt, they brought their children up in the faith of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In difficult times, we can still raise our children to follow the path of righteousness. We must not allow the surrounding culture or religion to influence the upbringing of our children. The family of Moses lived, walked, planned and did everything by faith.

How we react to trials and persecutions depend on our faith. Difficulties will either crush or stir up the giant in us. Some people's reaction is manifested through:

(1) Fear. They may refuse to go to church, read their Bibles or mention the name of Jesus. It is fear that makes them compromise with the wicked and surrender their birthright.
(2) Falsehood. Such people get whatever they want by means of falsehood.
(3) Faint-heartedness. They react to persecution by becoming timid and tired.
(4) Frowardness. They are people who are not dependable because there is no faith in them.
(5) Foolishness. They cannot confess Christ and stand for Him in the public.
(6) Forgetfulness. They easily forget their root and the commitment they made to the Lord.
(7) Faithlessness. When people allow challenges and difficulties to hinder them from abiding by their conviction, it is faithlessness.

Whether at home, school, office, marketplace, etc., we must live by faith; we must declare to the world who we are.

At a time in Egypt, Moses did not have faith in God; he acted like the Egyptians. He wanted to be a great political leader because he had learnt that the Egyptians oppressed and killed his people. But a moment came in his life, when he knew that what people thought or said about him did not matter. He realised that he had to place his conviction firmly in the Almighty God. This was when he got converted. With his transformation and encounter with the Lord, he was able to stand before Pharaoh to demand for the freedom of the children of Israel.

When a man becomes born again, he begins to walk in newness of life. He does not give room to the old lifestyle anymore. He becomes bold by reason of his justification and transformation from being a sinner to a saint. And by having "a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men," he is no longer a slave to any man. He manifests courage to obey the Lord and nothing can hinder him from entering the kingdom of God.

Faith In Trying Times – Part 2
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
20 September 2020 | 4:12 am

The life of Moses should make us desire and follow the path of righteousness. By faith, he rejected: (1) Royalty. Moses was regarded as a son of Pharaoh’s daughter, yet he refused being an heir to the throne. (2) The pleasures of sin. (3) The treasures in Egypt. Moses rejected all these and chose the following: (1) suffering with God’s people. Though he was counted as a son of Pharaoh’s daughter, he voluntarily chose to identify with the suffering of the people of God. (2) The reproach of Christ. (3) Reward that will come from God.

From the time Moses knew the Lord and before he died, there were three things he retained: (1) Faith. He had implicit and unwavering faith in God. Like the rock of Gibraltar, his faith was immovable, solid and steadfast. (2) Fearlessness. We must get to a level where we understand that our time, life, success, promotion, and fulfilment are in the hand of God. David had no cause to be afraid because he knew his “times” were in the hand of God. (3) Fortitude. Moses never compromised because of his determination to please the Lord. If God is our defender and protector, we should not be afraid. We must “press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” God who is on the throne will get us to our desired destination, earthly connections notwithstanding.

Moses knew that he owed his honour, authority, ministry and assignment to God. He never did anything by human wisdom but “as the Lord commanded” him. He did not modify or deviate from the pattern; he followed the blueprint that was revealed to him on the mountain. He succeeded also because those who associated and worked with him knew that they must do the work as the Lord commanded him. Faith in a believer leads to faithfulness, loyalty, dependability and obedience to the word of God. As believers, we must conduct our business, career, marriage, child training, choice of friends according to His word.

We must note that: (1) Faith in God and faithfulness to God go hand in hand. If we have faith in God, we will not be unfaithful to Him. It is impossible to be faithful to God without having faith in Him. Both are revealed by our obedience. (2) There will be fearlessness in tough, difficult times, if we must succeed. (3) There should be courage to stand for God. When we obey God, He will not leave us in the hands of persecutors. (4) We should manifest love for God and His people. (5) There must be humility and meekness. (6) Seeking God’s glory in all things must be our pursuit. (7) We must walk with God at all times.

Some people who claim to be Christians today do not have any conviction. There is no difference between them and the people in the world. There are also nominal ministers. The way they conduct themselves do not portray them as real ministers of God. They hardly preach the message of salvation or live holy lives. They are nominal in character, conduct, conversation, comportment, consecration, and evangelism. They are covetous and corrupt – they corrupt the word of God by misinterpreting it to suit their selfish interests.

As believers, we must be willing to identify with the people of God when they go through persecution and suffering. We should think about the rapture and the reward that awaits us in heaven. Moses saw what Pharaoh and others could not see. As a result, he fixed his gaze on the Almighty God. Like him, we should continually seek things that are eternal.

The Benefit Of Freedom – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

Every so often, nations go through years of historical landmarks.
For many countries, the most significant is the year of independence from external control or subjugation, when a nation attains freedom and assumes self-rule.

For Israel, a significant year is the year of jubilee. They were specifically commanded to "hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you."

The Lord had been giving them years of rest for forty-nine years. The fiftieth year is the year of jubilee. As our nation celebrates the 60th independence anniversary in four days’ time, our equivalent of the Jewish jubilee, there is a need to understand what Jubilee means for individuals and families. The passage reveals that the year of jubilee was a year of celebration of freedom, unlike all other years. Those who have cried under servitude all through the years before the jubilee had their tears wiped away as they experience and enjoy the blessings of jubilee.

There are several blessings to expect from the Lord as individuals and families in the year of jubilee. Therefore, it is a time to forget the past and focus on the future; it is a time of fulness of God’s blessings. Fulness is the same thing as perfection or completeness.

The year of jubilee is a year of (i) Rest. When Jesus brought jubilee unto the weary He said, "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavily laden, I will give you rest."

For those who have come to know the Lord, their jubilee has begun. All the heavy yokes are taken away. (ii) Return and reunion for families that have been scattered by winds of adversity. The year of jubilee is not a time to be looking down or looking back and be sorrowful because a new day of a reunion has begun. (iii) Restoration of all that has been taken away unlawfully. In the year of jubilee, the people of the Lord shall possess their possession. "I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm … and ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied." (iv) Redemption.

Jesus, the Redeemer, came to establish the fulness of the proclamation and to grant redemption to everyone who comes to Him from oppression, sin, sickness, and curse of the law. (v) Relief from heavyweight, yokes, burdens of heart, sickness, pain, problem, anxiety. (vi) Reckoning of all blessings which have accrued to your account but have not been claimed. Claim your inheritance because they are yours in this year of jubilee. (vii) Release. Jesus Christ came to set prisoners free and to release those who had been in the bondage of sin, and to take their place by making Himself a ransom for them.

There are responsibilities for those who have received the jubilee revelation. Almighty God expected them to fully reflect on the landmark year, and exercise utmost responsibility in a manner that e enabled them to ensure that they did not “oppress one another" in the year of jubilee. As divine freedom comes, it should be shared with others. The Lord wants everyone to dwell in safety in the year of jubilee. There should not be any grudge against one another in the year of jubilee.

The year of jubilee is a time to enjoy freedom and allow others to enjoy theirs. Those in positions of authority should reflect on the divine command and not “rule over [their subordinates] with rigour; but shall fear thy God." There should be love among the people of God, between the leaders and the led, between the rulers and those under authority. There should be a change on how issues are viewed.

In Israel, those who had been imprisoned are released in the year of jubilee to enjoy freedom. In the same way, if there had been any kind of imprisonment in the family, there should be release and reunion now at this time of jubilee. “Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow." As the Lord has come to give jubilee and release, it is time to recover everything that has been lost.

All Israelites who have been abjectly poor that they sold their possessions reclaimed or redeemed them in the year of jubilee. The year of jubilee is when the Lord fulfils “the desire of them that fear him: he will also hear their cry, and will save them."

Before the year of jubilee, people search for God and His blessings but in the year of jubilee, God and His blessings search for His people. The story of King David’s kindness to Mephibosheth illustrates divine kindness to His people in the year of jubilee. The condition of David’s kindness was not tied to Mephibosheth’s righteousness, “for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually." And true to the king’s promise, Mephibosheth began to “eat continually at the king’s table."

Those who know their rights and what God has done for them will eat at God’s table continually because Christ has made them qualified. Jubilee year has come and there will be celebration but we need to appreciate what God has done in pouring out His blessings upon His people in the year of jubilee.

Showers Of Blessings – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

One major attribute of children of God is that they believe and claim the promises God has made. The Lord has for instance promised that “there shall be showers of blessing" for His children. When we confess and claim this promise, He fulfils it. Our assurance for its fulfilment is based on the revelation of Scripture that the Lord “hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus" and "hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places."

Given these promises of miracle showers from heavenly places, we have no reason to remain in the valley of despondency or self-pity. Redeemed and blessed with all spiritual blessings, raised and seated with Christ, God’s children are established on the mountaintop of prosperity, holiness, health and liberty. In the believer's exalted position with Christ, there is no sorrow, sickness, oppression, affliction, torment, mental problem, demonic oppression or bereavement, but light, joy, celebration and happiness. So, there is no basis for these problems to exist in the lives of children of God.

To get rid of these problems, we must forget past negative experiences and believe that God is able to do all things. "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us" (Ephesians 3:20). Moses had the courage to confront Pharaoh; Joshua had the courage to march around the walls of Jericho for its collapse; David had the courage to face Goliath; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were not afraid of Nebuchadnezzar; Daniel was not afraid of spending a night in the den with hungry lions; Mary believed she could conceive without knowing a man; Peter was able to walk on the sea at Christ’s bidding; and Peter with John did command the man at the Beautiful Gate to rise and walk because they all knew God is able to do all things.

Whatever challenge we may be facing today, our God is able. There is no problem too difficult for Him to solve. Complaining about challenges and problems will not solve them. He commands us to speak the word of authority to the mountains of problems to move.

In every society, the way people talk, their disposition and attitudes reflect their status. The stature and facial appearance of a person may not change, but his/her position can change. When God gives the believer a new position in Christ, he becomes a new creature. God expects his language and disposition to become new, to march his new status. He does not degrade himself or honour the devil anymore by speaking negative things about his life and situation.

When God asked Moses to go to Pharaoh, he did not understand the implication and power of his new status until God began to perform signs and wonders through him. Thus, when the children of Israel were afraid of crossing the Red sea on sighting Pharaoh and his armies, Moses instructed them to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. When we understand our position in Christ, we shall become conquerors. Although God had been performing miracles through Joshua, when he realised his exalted spiritual status, he commanded the Sun to stand still upon Gibeon and the Moon in the valley of Ajalon until he defeated his enemies. Our new position in Christ gives us the word of authority.

The basis of receiving God's blessings is our new birth in Christ. The new birth experience makes an erstwhile sinner a new creature.
With a new experience and position in Christ, the old language of defeat and discouragement will give way to a new language of faith.

As new creatures we have a new: (1) Covenant with God who faithfully fulfilled every detail of His covenant with Abraham and David, and will fulfill ours; (2) Captain – Christ, the Captain of our salvation guides, directs, and leads us; (3) Counsellor who counsels and directs us through the Holy Spirit; (4) Commandment to love one another; (5) Communication with the new tongue that the Lord gives the new creature; (6) Cogitations – new way of thinking or meditation; and (7) Companion – people of God are your companions and not people who scorn at the word of God.

Our new position in Christ gives us new power and possibilities. These privileges belong to those who are saved. The Lord has given us power “over all the power of the enemy”. There is therefore no reason to be afraid. The moment any sinner receives Christ as Lord and personal Saviour, God gives him/her power to become His child; he/she receives the "power unto salvation." With the power of God in his/her life, the fear of man, failure, bad dreams, curses, and ancestral spirits are gone.

In Christ, there is (1) power over sin. When Christ comes into the life of a sinner, he begins to live a victorious life above sin. (2) Power over sickness. (3) Power over spirits. With the power of Christ in the believer’s life, no evil spirit can torment him. (4) Power of sonship. (5) Power of salvation. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is the power unto salvation. (6) Power in all situations. (7) Power over the old serpent. {8} Power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us the power and boldness to preach the gospel.

Believers who sit with Christ in heavenly places have all the riches and resources of heaven as their inheritance and portion. The Lord makes the provision, gives us the possession, and grants us our portion. What kind of portion do we have in Christ? (1) Divine portion – when God the Creator, Healer, and Provider is our portion, all our needs will be met. (2) Daily portion – we should expect daily miracles in our lives. (3) The desired portion – whatever we desire from the Lord in faith, we will have them as our possession. (4) The determined portion. (5) The disciples’ portion. The “divine nature" is the disciples' portion. There is no weakness, sickness, fear or calamity in the divine nature. (6) The dedicated portion. (7) Double portion – if we focus on the Lord and obey all His commandments, we will get a double portion of His blessings.

Of all the people in the scriptures, Daniel stands out as an exemplar of true faith and commitment to God. His purpose earlier in life was not superficial; the strength of his firm purpose carried him through till old age. Though he was a captive in Babylon, he was courageous, not cowardly, in standing by his godly conviction. He did not think that when you are in Rome, you must do as the Romans. He was as righteous in Babylon as he had been in Jerusalem. To him, it mattered not whether his actions brought him loss or gain, frown or favour, pain or pleasure, condemnation or commendation of the world. Cost what it might, righteousness was always the best policy. Each of us needs such a spirit of decision in times like these.

Why would Daniel be so particular? Were there not other Jews in the land, who kept their religion to themselves and quietly refrained from attracting attention to their conviction? The temptation to look at others is always strong, but Daniel was not going to yield to any pressure to compromise. He was being considered for the highest position in the government. If he were very conscientious in keeping to his conviction, would he not miss the opportunity of that special promotion? No position in an earthly government was as important to Daniel as a place in the Kingdom of God. Some might have said 'it is the law of the land not to pray to God' but God's children are under a higher law and “we ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29). Daniel’s heart was set and settled. His decision was not floating in his head but deep-rooted in his heart.

The presidents and the princes conspired against Daniel. They, by flattery and deception, perverted the king's mind to pass an unchangeable edict. The penalty for disobeying the king's decree was death in the lions' den. The situation would have put Daniel in great dilemma, but his first allegiance was to the King of kings and his fearless and unqualified obedience was to the law and edict of His everlasting Kingdom. The great trial did not crush his spirit of praise. He still “prayed and gave thanks before His God."

The dread of the den of lions did not stop Daniel from worshipping God. The lions in the den, indeed, all the lions in all the dens on earth are under God’s control. If he had compromised and sinned for fear of Darius' den of lions, he could still have encountered a fiercer doom than the terror from which he shrank. Lions could still crush and kill the compromiser (1 Kings 13:24; 2 Kings 17:25,26; Job 3:25). Compromising men have declined to bear a light burden and they have been constrained to bear a far heavier one. They have fled from a lion and a bear has met them; they sought to escape from a bear but a serpent killed them (Amos 5:19).

To deny Christ because of danger is always risky, unsafe and dangerous. It is better to go forward than to draw back. The safest thing is to trust our souls into God's care and do His will. Even if there are lions in front, it is better to go ahead doing God’s will than to draw back. “Remember Lot’s wife." It may be hard going forward, but it is worse going back. If a man lost his life to save his coat he would be a fool; if a man were to lose his soul in order to save his life, he would be a greater fool. So, Daniel knew that the risk of being cast into a den of lions was nothing when compared to the risk of being cast into hell. He chose the smaller risk and continued living for God's glory.

Ultimately, the great conflict was between “the law of his God," "the LORD that change not" (Daniel 6:5; Malachi 3:6) and “the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not" (Daniel 6:8,12b, 15). It was a conflict between the everlasting King and an earthly ruler. Daniel knew that God is greater and disobedience to His law carries eternal punishment. The penalty in the den was temporary and brief; the punishment in hell will be endless and eternal. It would have been foolish to fear the den and risk being cast into the eternal lake of fire. There was a choice to make and Daniel, strengthened by habitual prayer and faith in God, made the right choice.

Daniel's decision was the decision of a single-minded believer. He knew his duty towards God and he did not waver or confer with flesh and blood. He did not seek the advice of worldly-minded people. His faith was steadfast; he was calm and unruffled; his conduct remained consistent with his conviction. His conscience affirmed obedience to God above allegiance to any man on earth. God's Word, not the decree of earthly kings, was his guide in life. He had decided for the truth and he was not going to sell the truth at any price. Oh, for a heart like Daniel's to follow and obey Christ at all hazards. To be a real Christian and be steadfast till the end, a man must possess such decision of character. So many people fail and falter, they fall from the Christian race because of lack of a firm purpose. They start with great enthusiasm and glowing testimony, then they allow themselves to be diverted from their purpose.

A man of unswerving decision learns to keep his mind on the Lord. Keeping our eyes on eternal things makes sin and compromise lose their attractions. A firm commitment to God and His will, whatever may arise, keeps us standing for the truth at all times. Such a firm decision keeps our hearts at rest and we leave the outcome in God's Hands. The great thing for us is to know the will of God and do it.

Decisions make the man. Firm decisions make firm men with strong backbone. Break a man's ability to take decisions and you break and destroy the man. It was Babylon's determination to break the will and overthrow the faith of the three faithful worshippers of the true God. Babylon failed and the old-time faith was purified and preserved in the fire. It was Medo-Persia's determination to destroy or weaken Daniel's resolve. Daniel's commitment to the law of God was stronger than their determination. Because of the faithfulness of believers who have lived before us and their willingness to be cast into the furnace or into the lions’ den, "the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" still lives.

Daniel’s devotion took him to the lions' den, but also brought him in contact with an angel of God in the lions' den. His consistent devotional life was the result of his fearless disposition. He was about 90 years old at this time and his purpose of heart as a young man was still vibrant in his old age. His heart was fixed. No decree of man could swerve him from his devotions to God. Compromisers are never open and above-board. They conceal their real character. Daniel's commitment to God was well-known before the decree and that commitment continued during the period of the decree. Daniel and his devotion to God outlived all his persecutors and their decree. The decree could not conquer his spirit of devotion, neither could the lions crush the bones of his body.

Daniel's conscience would not allow him to keep his conviction and devotion secret. He was too honest to live under false pretence. He was not ashamed to confess and serve his God openly. Faithful as Daniel was to the king, there was a point at which his earthly interests stopped. Once earthly relations and authorities demanded that he should disregard or dishonour God, he was instantly inflexible. No desire for worldly recognition and no fear of royal punishment could lessen his consecration or devotion to God. This has ever been the mark and moral strength of all true children of God in all the ages. The world may try to frighten us with edicts and decrees or entice us with promises and privileges, but they will try in vain. Nothing will diminish our love for our God and our Saviour. Let us prayerfully trust and obey our God and the fear of man, which brings a snare, will have no hold on our hearts.

Gains Of Faith – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
08 November 2020 | 3:13 am

Our freedom, liberation, deliverance, fulfilment in life depends on what and who we know. Christ reveals that our knowledge of the truth will make us free. Ignorance of the truth is not good.

For, if we do not know the truth, how can we be set free? Aside from not being good, lack of knowledge of the truth is a great problem, even to people of God. Children of God sometimes wonder how some peculiar challenges come to them. But the Scripture affirms that "my people are gone into captivity because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst."

Our knowledge of the truth brings the experience of freedom and liberation. It is knowing, believing, embracing, internalising, and personalising the truth of God’s word that sets us free, keeps us free, and makes us also able to set other people free.

"If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." Spiritual freedom comes by getting connected to the Son of God. Everyone needs to come into His presence to be able to experience this freedom. Opportunity is always there for sinners to be connected and backsliders to be reconnected to the Saviour. The freedom the Lord grants is not partial but permanent. He sets us free from sin, sickness, and Satan to follow and become servants of righteousness. “Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness." As servants and students of righteousness, sin does not have dominion over us any longer. When the Son of God comes into our lives, He renews our mind, thoughts, and conscience, and makes us completely free from sin. He then becomes the Controller and Director of our lives. When there’s no more sin, the middle wall of partition that separates us from Him, we "become servants to God…."

God, Who grants peace after justification is the same Who "shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly." The right place for evil powers, demons, and Satan for people who have made peace with God is “under [their] feet”. This will become a reality in your life as soon and as “shortly” as your faith can claim the promise. The Son grants true and complete freedom, not only from sin but also from satanic bondage. “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not, but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not."

Christ, our Lord and Saviour set us free from seven-fold bondage. He grants us: (1) freedom from filthiness – God specialises in cleansing sinners from all filthiness of sin. Cleansed by God, the heart becomes free from all stubbornness and resistance to His Word; it becomes tender as He equally sanctifies and fills it with His Spirit. (2) Freedom from fear. Fear is a terrible emotion. Many times, what you fear, you attract to your life. Premonitions and terrifying dreams tend to become reality through fear. Satan uses fear in people to work against them as he did to Job. In the new covenant, it’s a new day, and fear is gone. (3) Freedom from the flesh. Some people are still involved with the works of the flesh and remain, voluntary slaves when God has declared universal freedom for all men. (4) Freedom from frustration. Hope deferred often brings frustration and depression, especially when there is a lack or loss of opportunities and means of livelihood or difficulty in finding a marriage partner. (5) Freedom from failure. Many people are battling with failure; they tell stories of ill-luck and inability to pass exams. With confession, conviction, correction, concentration, consecration, commendation, and conferment, there will be freedom from failure. (6) Freedom from falsehood. God sets free from false apostles, prophets, teachers, doctrine, as well as religion and ideology that despise Christ’s sacrifice. (7) Freedom from the fire. God sets us – family, property – free from the fire of the enemy. He also grants freedom from eternal fire through repentance, faith, and freedom in Christ. While genuine believers will go to heaven to walk on the streets of gold, those who reject Christ will burn in the eternal, unending fire.
