Itsekiris Finally Discard 1979 Edict Insist That They Are Yorubas Not Bini by Ogungbemi01: 11:53am On Apr 02, 2021
The controversy surrounding the Itsekiri kingship tussle has been finally put to rest as 99.5% of Itsekiris insist that the controversial edict which disqualified a prince whose mother is not from Edo origin does not emanate from the people and should be totally discarded. They insist that they are Yoruba speaking people in Delta State who have no relationship with Bini people. They wondered why an edict should be made to exclude the parent tribe that gave birth to Itsekiri. All Itsekiri communities migrated from Yoruba. It is therefore against our interest to disqualify prince Shola on the basis of an edict that was made for selfish interest to narrow the search for an Oluto a particular person they had in mind. What Itsekiris have demostrated is that the people are bigger than the controversial edict. Prince Tsola Emiko whose mother is Yoruba has been chosen as Omoba elect. Congratulations.

I never thought this would be an issue, by the little I know of the Itsekiri kingship, A prince mother must either be from Edo, Itsekiri or Yoruba.

So why was the Prince Tsola rejected? Are you an Itsekiri? Can you throw more light on this?

Was able to read something similar from a verified source: https://www.independent.ng/olu-of-warri-stool-why-prince-tsola-emiko-was-disqualified/

It looks like the ruling house isn't comfortable with the Edict that excluded their parent tribe and they claim it was implemented without proper consultation of the people.

According to the above source, the Prime Minister has been suspended for initially disqualifying Prince Tsola. Also, it looks like the mothers of the three contesting princes are from Yoruba.

Quite complex.

Atuwatse has three sons, Prince Tsola and Prince Toju's mom is from OGUN, Prince Omatsola's mom is from Lagos. From all indications, the ruling house wants to end the anti-yoruba rules.

So the tussle is between the three sons of Olu Atuwatse and not between his son and the son of olu ikenwoli?

We don't want the anti Yoruba rule, it is a ploy by the Binis to separate us from our brothers. Since they use mid west to separate us from the West, Binis have been trying to annex our land in Edo State. We don't understand Bini language neigther does Bini understand our language. If you cast a news in Yoruba language in Itsekiri area, every body will understand what the news caster is saying . Likewise if the news is read in Itsekiri. They connive with some self centered Itsekiri leaders to produce the vexecious edict. Omadino people are from Ode in Ogun state while Ugborodo people are from Ugbo in Ondo state. How will you convince Omadinor people that a child born by their sister from Ogun state is not qualified to sit on the throne in a kingdom where they are major stake holders? How do you also convince Ugborodo people who are the highest oil producers in Delta State that their sister from Ondo state cannot give birth to a king to rule over their land? In fact the edict is very annoying to our people. No body want to hear it. The people have trashed the edict.

You're saying nonsense,

The itsekiri royalty is of edo origin, the people could be Yoruba but the ruling house is of edo

Changing it would only lead to more issues rather than solution

You should be proud itsekiri were opportuned to be of edo origin something other yorubas are dieing for....

This move by the itsekiri royals is just a mere inferiority complex

The edo royals who ought to protect their original lineage are the ones distorting it very sad

I sincerely do not want to get too involved in your internal battle but I thought king selection is in the final hands of your Ife who appoints the Omoba? Also it looks you are pro-Yoruba, what about other Pro-bini in your midst?

You are throwing some allegations here, how is Bini annexing your land in Edo state? Is there any issues indigenous Itsekiris are facing in Edo we aren't aware of?

Cc: scholes0 see where the issue is coming from.

Exactly why it didn't make any sense whatsoever to me when I heard three years ago that someone can only be Olu if the mother is Benin or Itsekiri, when we all know that Itsekiri is a Yoruboid speaking group that partially fused their surrounding neighbours.

If this is true, then it is great that the people have gotten back their voice if that is what the majority of Itsekiris want. A king's rule is only validated by the people he rules over.

Can you imagine such nonsense coming out from you, since the benin royalty has been ruling is now they know they are Yorubas and they should be led to rule

Wether they like it or not, the royalty is of edo
origin and they can never fight it, no silly
Yoruba should near that stool, the heir to the throne must have a Bini or an edo bloodline through the mother to effectively continue the stool

So this is about oil,right?
When the edict was to your own advantage, nobody heard you protesting it.
The Itsekiri people have always allied with the Binis,so I think they have since been "Bininized".
The edict was signed and adopted in conjunction with your elites, so to seek to review it would mean serious scuffles.
Let sleeping dogs lie. We don't need another communal crisis in this already fragmented country.

They should disqualified the three prince's, and the olu should be questioned dead or alive why he deliberately married all Yoruba women knowing fully well, that confusion may arise

The three prince should be disqualified and the iyasere steps in for the awaiting future prince,

All the princeses should find a benin or itsekiri lady as a bride to qualify their children for the throne, as their time has passed

You can't alter a law because of selfish interest laws are ment to be guided and respected the olu didnt respect such laws that gave him the stool

Are you under the influence of Kwale weed? Even the said edict said the Ifa has the final say. Whoever the Ifa choses must be crowned whether or not that other sections are against the person. Ifa has chosen Tsola and it is final. The edict has been trashed.

Law are meant to be respected and not threaded upon because of selfish intrest reasons why we dont respect laws in the country because the top people like the olu who made such laws would still step on it, if this olu is not thought the lesson of disobeying laws, the future kings will do worse

And again there is no ifa in benin monarchy so remove that nonsense yoruba idols that couldn't save their people when Benin came raiding their people lands and installing their king

That ifa should be thought laws and principle or should be burnt and deserves not to be an idol in the royal palace of a Benin derived stool at all,

So whatsoever ever the ifa idol would pronounce would surely be false as it originally configured to favour yorubas,

Ifa has no right to choose in a benin
monarchy my stance remain same the three prince should be disqualified and iyasere steps in as replacement Untill the prince's children makes the qualification

LOL. I see it is not only the smaller Igbo groups in Delta state the Binis are trying to annex to themselves, apparently, but their ambitions are also far and wide. Quite revealing. I have met a lot of itshekiris though and I thought they were Yorubas at first.

The benin royal house of itsekiris have been ruling and leading the entire itsekiris people since 16AD, so is it now it is obvious that the people the benin royal house has been leading in itsekiri are yorubas

Oga am suspecting you're here to make trouble, you could be one troublesome tribal marked faced Yoruba agberu, from ogbomosho parading as an itsekiri to cause confusion in the south,
