Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 2
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" (Psalms 91:1).

Happy new year. Hallelujah! It's our year of amazing glory. Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. The counsel of God concerning you and your household shall stand in the mighty name of Jesus. Your expectations will not be cut short in the mighty name of Jesus.

The evil schemes of wicked and unreasonable people against you will not prosper in the mighty name of Jesus. God will give you supernatural speed in the mighty name of Jesus. Wasted years shall be restored back to you in the mighty name of Jesus. Those who looked down on you will look up to you in the mighty name of Jesus.

We stressed the need to pray for divine protection yesterday. In addition, we said that there are things you must do besides prayer to stay under divine cover this glorious new year. The fifth point is that you must open your mouth and acknowledge God's protection over your life. Thus the psalmist said; " I WILL SAY OF THE LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust." (Psalms 91:2).

There is power in your tongue. As you are about to step out of your home, open your mouth and declare God's protection over your life. The sixth point is that you should refrain your lips from evil speaking. There are people who are fond of speaking evil about others. And it is worse when you do it against a child of God. It can send you to your early grave.

Seventh, learn to praise and worship God at all times. It attracts the presence of God. And when God's manifest presence is with you, no power of darkness or any form of evil can harm you. Lastly, be conscious of God at all times and the angels he has sent to keep watch over you. It's quite unfortunate that quite a few of God's children are more conscious of the evil one. It shouldn't be. The psalmist said, " I have set the LORD ALWAYS BEFORE ME: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved." (Psalms 16:cool.

So, trust God this year that he will protect you and your household from every form of evil. Sickness and afflictions of any form will be far from you in the mighty name of Jesus. The Lord will deliver you from the hands of wicked and unreasonable people in the mighty name of Jesus. The glory you will experience this year will far surpass the glory of past years in the mighty name of Jesus.

Prayer: My Father in heaven, I thank you for the glorious opportunity to see this new year. I commit my dreams and goals into your mighty hands. I declare that my life will move from glory to glory in the mighty name of Jesus. Above all, keep me from the evil one in the mighty name of Jesus.

Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 3.

"And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER YOU, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt." (Exodus 12:13).

We are still on the subject of five important prayer points for 2023. The first prayer point we mentioned is praying for DIVINE PROTECTION. We also emphasized on things we must do to stay under divine cover some of which are; and putting our absolute trust in God, getting rid fear, seeking him diligently in the place of prayer and fellowship and committing our lives to doing his will.

In addition, constantly declare his protection over your life, avoid speaking evil of others and give him praise and worship at all times. Today, still on the subject of divine protection, learn to cover your household with the blood of Jesus. Always do this before you start the day and before you go to bed at night.

There is power in the blood of Jesus. The scripture says; "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace."(Ephesians 1:7). The blood of Jesus has redeemed us from sickness, poverty and untimely death. Apply it by faith on the lintels of your door posts. Every evil projected against you including death will see the blood and passover your household.

When Satan or evil people place a demand on your life, the blood of Jesus will speak mercy for you. Hence, the scripture says; "And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel." (Hebrews 12:24). Abel's blood speaks vengeance but the blood of Jesus speaks mercy.

Moreover, the scripture says; "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death."(Hebrews 12:11). Our Lord Jesus died that you might live. As such, no one can cut short your life. "A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." (Psalms 91:7).

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you once again for this glorious new year. I also thank you for the redemption I have through the blood of the lamb. I hereby declare that I and my household are covered with the blood of Jesus. When death or any form of evil is projected against us, it will passover my household in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 4.

"The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly." (Proverbs 20:27).

In our previous lessons, the first prayer point we addressed is DIVINE PROTECTION. In addition to praying for divine protection, we mentioned things you must do to stay under divine cover. May the Lord grant you the grace to do them in the mighty name of Jesus.

The second important prayer point is DIVINE DIRECTION. Ask God to direct you this year in accordance to his divine plans for your life. You need divine direction in your business, job, career, marriage and even where you ought to be with regard to your physical location.

Always seek the face of God before you invest in any business. There are so many people who have incurred great losses because they invested in the wrong business. Don't let it happen to you this year. Do you desire to change your job? Seek the face of God. A higher paying job may not necessarily be the will of God for you because God sees the end from the beginning. You also need divine direction when choosing a life partner. Don't choose based on looks and status alone. Remember, not all that glitters is gold.

However, the question is, how do I know the direction God is leading me to? God leads his children primarily through their spirit man. This is what the opening text unveils. Your spirit is the candle of the Lord. This is why Apostle Paul wrote; "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God". (Romans 8:14).

The first way God speaks to us is through an inward witness. You just have a conviction within you that you are taking the right decision on the subject in question. If what you are about to do is not God's will for you, you will have a negative feeling in your spirit saying no to it.

The second way is through a still small voice. You will hear the voice within you on what to do. But Satan also speaks to us through our minds. So, you must discern the voice that is speaking to you by his word. If it's from God, it must agree with his word.

However, most of the time, the answer as to the direction God is leading you doesn't come immediately. You may have to wait awhile to get a clear conviction of what God wants you to do. This is where fasting comes in. Fasting helps to make you more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

So, this year, ask God for divine direction. Get a clear conviction in your spirit before taking a major step. In other words, listen to your heart and not your head. Don't travel abroad because others are doing it. Every good and perfect gift is from above and not from abroad.

Prayer: Mighty God and Everlasting Father, I exalt your holy name. I ask for your direction this year in major decisions I intend to make. I will not miss it this year in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 5.

"And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us." (Acts 16:9).

We have death with the need to pray for DIVINE PROTECTION. Yesterday, we introduced the second prayer point which is DIVINE DIRECTION. We said that God leads us primarily through our spirit man. You either have a witness in your spirit or hear the still small voice of the Holy Spirit giving you divine direction.

You can also receive divine directions through visions. There are three kinds of visions. The commonest is the vision you receive in your dream at night. Some dreams are actually visions from God giving you divine direction or unveiling your future to you like the dream of Joseph.

Apostle Paul received a vision at night which is most likely through his dream as contained in the opening text. He immediately knew that God was directing him to take the gospel to Macedonia.

The second kind of vision is an open vision. In this kind, you are not sleeping but your spiritual eyes are opened to see into the realm of the spirit. In addition, you are still conscious of your physical environment. This kind of vision though not so common, still happens today. It is more common with those who stand in the office of a Prophet or through which the gift of discernment of spirits operate.

The third kind is a trance. A trance is a vision that happens to you when you see into the realm of the spirit but you lose consciousness of your physical environment. This was the kind of vision Apostle Peter received when God wanted him to go to the house of Cornelius to preach to him and his household - Acts 10:9-20.

So, while you are praying for divine direction, be expectant that God could lead you through any of these means. But you are not supposed to pray for visions. It is not scriptural. If you do that, you will open the door to the devil to show you false visions that will lead you into errors.

There is also the place of confirmation. God can confirm his will for your life through a servant of God. But ensure you hear from God first. Apostle Paul and Barnabas received confirmation during a fellowship meeting of some prophets and teachers in Antioch. As it is written; "As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work WHEREUNTO I HAVE CALLED THEM" (Acts 13:2).

Notice the phrase, 'whereunto I have called them'. It affirms they were already called. So, be careful how you run to some prophets for directions. Hear from God yourself first. After that, God will confirm it through any of his servants he chooses to use.

Prayer: My Heavenly Father, I glorify you this beautiful day. I thank you for your mercy and grace. Lead me in the way I should go and in the things I should do this year in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 6.

"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread." (Matthew 6:10-11).

We have so far discussed the prayer points that has to do with DIVINE PROTECTION and DIVINE DIRECTION. Today, the third prayer point we will look at is DIVINE PROVISIONS.

Our Lord Jesus gave his disciples a template or guide for prayers popularly known as the Lord's prayer. Included in the template is a prayer point that has to do with our daily bread or daily provisions.

But it's important we know the order of the template. It begins with worship. Then, the second prayer point focuses on his coming kingdom and his will to be done on earth. It is after this, he mentioned the prayer that has to do with our daily bread.

The message is clear. Before you place a demand for your daily bread from God, first give attention to the things of his kingdom and doing his will. This is why so many of God's children pray and it seems that God doesn't hear their prayers.

God is willing to meet your needs and grant your heart's desires. But you must first give attention to the things of his kingdom. His kingdom has already come. Praying for God's kingdom to come is no longer a prayer point. If you born again, you are already in God's kingdom. Thus, the scripture says; "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and HATH TRANSLATED us into the kingdom of his dear Son."(Colossians 1:13).

Notice the verse says he has already translated us into the Kingdom of his dear Son. There are no two kingdoms. The kingdom of God is also the kingdom of his dear Son.

So, you must be committed to doing God's will first before you can place a demand for your daily needs. What is your commitment in your local church? Do you participate in soul winning activities? Do you attend all church services consistently? God is not mocked. You will reap only what you have sown.

If you want him to grant the petitions of your heart, then be committed first to his will whole heartedly. And do it diligently. This is why our Lord Jesus said; "But SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33).

Prayer: My Father in heaven, I worship you in spirit and in truth. I thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your kingdom. I am committed to its advancement and your will for my life. As I diligently do your will, I ask for your divine provisions in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 7.

"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19).

Yesterday, we introduced the third prayer point which is DIVINE PROVISIONS. And we emphasized that you must be committed to doing God's will before you can place a demand on God to meet your needs. No earthly father will love to take care of the need of a full grown child who refuses to take responsibilities at home. So, be responsible in the house of God if you want your needs to be met.

One aspect of God's will is the financial support you give for the advancement of God's kingdom. Apostle Paul prayed for the Philippian church that God should supply all of their needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. But before he made that prayer, he acknowledged the financial support they gave to him. In fact, the prayer was in response to the financial support he received from them.

He began to acknowledge their support right from the first chapter of the letter he wrote to them. He said, "Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now."(Philippians 1:4-5). The Greek word from which fellowship is translated from is koinonia which also means participation through contributions or distributions of their substances.

Then, in chapter four, he once once again acknowledged their gifts - Philippians 4:15-18. What is your financial commitment in your local church? Are you committed to paying your tithes? Do you willingly participate financially in church projects and programmes? Do you give offerings worth the blessings you have received from God? If your answer is yes, then you can place a demand from God to divinely provide your needs.

Most of the times, your needs are even met even before you present your prayers to God. So, keep doing God's will from your heart through your selfless services and giving and your prayers for divine provisions will receive speedy answers.

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you for another glorious day. I thank you also for the enlightened of your word that gives me understanding. As I walk in the light of your word concerning my financial participation, I declare that my needs are met in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 8.

"Then when you call, the Lord will answer. ‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply. “Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!" (Isaiah 58:9 New Living Translation).

We are still on the subject of praying for divine provisions. Another factor that influences answers to your prayers is the manner and ways you treat your fellow brethren and respond to their needs. The opening text says that the Lord will answer speedily if you do these things; 1). Stop oppressing others. This refers to those who have workers under them but mistreat them by giving them too much job for the very little salary they earn. It also applies to superiors who mistreat their subordinates in many ways.

2). Stop pointing fingers. This refers to accusations which so many of God's children do. Remember that the devil is the accuser of brethren. So, when you are in the habit of accusing your fellow brethren for whatever reason, you are working for the devil and such attitude hinders answers to your prayers even for divine provisions.

3). It says that you should stop spreading vicious rumours. This is another habit of so many people do even in the house of God. The moment they hear any negative news about a fellow brother or sister, they start spreading the news even without verification. Even if the news is true, it is still wrong to spread it. Doing so not only destroys the reputation of the person in question, it also affects and destroys the church.

4). Feed the hungry and help those in need. Hence verse 10 of the same chapter reads; "Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon." Isaiah 58:10 NLT).

It's quite unfortunate that a large percentage of those who profess to be Christians lack empathy. They deny their brethren help when it's within their power to do it. Such act not only hinders prayers but could cost you your salvation. Even if don't have the resources to adequately meet the need of a brother, give the much you can. Such act of sacrificial giving attracts more blessing - Deuteronomy 15:10.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for your mercy, grace and faithfulness. Have mercy on me in manners and ways I have denied others help when it was within my power to help. I also ask for mercy for ways I have been involved in spreading rumours about my brethren. I ask for fresh grace to do good and support the poor. As I do so, I declare that my needs are met in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 9.

" I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty." (1st Timothy 2:1-2).

The fourth prayer point we will deal with today is DIVINE INTERVENTION for our leaders and our nation. It's an understatement to say that we are living in difficult times. The cost of living is rising daily and the rate of unemployment is also very high. Worse of it all is the present security challenge we are faced with in different part of the nation such that so many people can't sleep with their two eyes closed.

If there is any time we need to pray fervently and ceaselessly for our nation, it is now. The church has been given the authority to restrain the evil schemes of darkness through prayers. There is an evil projection on this nation from the pit of hell. But we can restrain their influence through prayer. Hence, the scripture says; "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 18:18).

However, before we begin to pray for our nations, we must first ask for mercy and turn away from our wicked ways. Thus, it is written; "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2nd Chronicles 7:14).

God will heal Nigeria and every other nation in the world when we stand in the gap through heartfelt prayers. We definitely will not see the change overnight but the it will come. But we must first turn from our wicked ways. The church should stop walking in envy and strife. There is too much backbiting and unhealthy competition in the present day church. We have no love for one another. We must repent of these wicked ways and seek the face of God.

The first prayer point for Nigeria in particular is for peace to reign especially as we are getting ready for the election which is just around the corner. We should pray also that our present leaders will not be influenced by wrong spirits to take decisions that will affect us negatively.

Also pray that God will frustrate every evil counsel of the wicked one against our nation. Declare that God will give us a leader that will turn things around for good. Come against every form of blood shed projected against us this period. Declare that there shall be no war of any form. Finally, pray that God's counsel concerning Nigeria will stand.

Prayer: Glorious Father, I thank you for your mercy upon our nation Nigeria and other nations of the world. I ask for your mercy in every way we have failed you. Father, deliver us from wicked and unreasonable leaders. Give us good leaders that will do the right thing and make decisions that will lead this nation in the path of peace, progress and prosperity in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Five Important Prayer Points for 2023 - 10.
" So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy." (Romans 9:16).

The fifth prayer point is prayer for DIVINE FAVOUR. You don't have to labour to get everything you need in this life. There are things you will receive that you didn't labour for. It will come to you through the vehicle of God's grace or favour.

So, this year, trust God for divine favour. This is your set time to receive uncommon favour. As it is written; "Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come." (Psalms 102:13).

There is a relationship between mercy and favour. No one will favour you unless he first have compassion on you. Mercy also means compassion. When God shows you mercy, favour follows. And his mercy is available to us as we go to his throne of grace by the blood of Jesus. Hence, it is written; "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 10:19, 4:16).

However, ensure you do things rightly as grace only reigns through righteousness - Romans 5:21. This year, don't habitually skip church services and be punctual. Don't also leave before the close of the service. Pay your tithes, give quality offerings, help the needy and learn to also show mercy to others. In addition, be involved in soul winning activities. As you do all these, God will have mercy on you and grant you uncommon favour.

Prayer: Merciful Father, creator of heaven and earth, I bless your holy name. I come before your throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace for the present hour. And as your mercy flow in my life, I declare that uncommon favour will locate me in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 1.

"By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh." (Hebrews 11:4).

The writer of the book of Hebrews wrote a brief narrative of the exploits of the heroes of faith in the eleventh chapter of the book. The first person he started with was Abel.

Abel was the second child of Adam who I believe was a twin brother of Cain. The scripture said, "And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, AND BARE CAIN, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And SHE AGAIN BARE his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground." (Genesis 4:1-2).

Notice that after Eve gave birth to Cain, the scripture said that she bare again. It didn't say, she conceived again. So, it was one conception but two births implying they were twins.

In the process of time, the scripture said; "...that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. "(Genesis 4:3-5).

The passage above said that God had respect unto Abel and his offering. The manner and ways you give your offerings places a value on you in the realm of the spirit. Many a time, the quality of offerings you give reveals who you are. So, God respected Abel first before he respected his offering. His offering was offered in faith. He honored God with the firstlings of his flock.

But Cain on the other hand gave the left over. He didn't give his first to God. He should have given the firstfruits of his agricultural products but he did otherwise. And God did not respect him and his offering.

One great lesson we can learn from Abel is that, always give the best of your firstfruit to God. For instance, your first salary in the first month of this year is your firstfruit. Give the best from it or from the profit from your business in the first month of this year to God. The principle of firstfruit is often not practiced by a large percentage of the the body of Christ. And one of the reasons is that it is not usually taught. But the principle is an eternal one and has accruable benefits.

The consequences of not honoring God with your firstfruits is not limited to the negative affect it has on your financial prosperity, but it will also affects the generations of your children yet unborn. It is for this reason the generation of Abel was blessed but that of Cain was wiped out in the process of time.

So, in this first month of January, ensure you give God your very best from your first salary or from the profit of your business. It mustn't be all like it's taught in some denominations. It is the best you ought to give even as instructed under the Law of Moses - Exodus 23:19, 34:26, Leviticus 23:10. If you can give all, the better. But give in proportion to your faith. Give something worthy that will cause God to respect you and your offering. This act of faith will lay the foundation for your prosperity this year.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I magnify and give thanks unto your holy name. I thank you for unveiling the principle of first fruits to me as practiced by Abel. I am resolved to follow Abel's example in his act of faith concerning giving. As I do, I declare that the rest of the months of this year will be fruitful and I will experience increase on every side in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 2

"And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the Altar. And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I WILL NOT AGAIN CURSE THE GROUND ANY MORE for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. "(Genesis 8:20-21).

Noah was another great hero of faith worth discussing. Noah was a child of destiny. When his father gave birth to him, he named him Noah, saying, "... This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed." (Genesis 5:29).

Prior to the time Noah offered sacrifice to God as contained in the opening text, the earth was under a curse on account of Adam's sin. But after Noah offered the unusual sacrifice, the curse was reversed. Noah thus fulfilled the name given to him by his father, Lamech. This story unveils the power in a name. So, be mindful of the names you give to your children.

Noah is long dead but we are still reaping the blessings that came through the sacrifice he offered. Farmers can plant crop and get a good harvest because of the sacrifice of Noah. And the blessing is enjoyed by all whether good or evil.

The lesson we can draw from here is the power of sacrifice. It can change seemingly hopeless situation. It can overturn generational curses. Is there any trend in your life or family that you desire a change, take a worthy sacrifice and offer it at the altar of God. You will definitely experience the desired breakthrough.

It doesn't matter the nature of the trend. It could be untimely death, the trend of poverty, the trend of a particular ailment or that ladies in the family never gets married etc. The power of a worthy sacrifice at the right altar will overturn that evil trend. And God's name alone will be glorified.

Prayer: Glorious Father, I thank you for another beautiful day. I thank you for unveiling the power of sacrifice to me through the example of Noah's unusual sacrifice. As I follow his example, I declare that every negative trend in my life and family will be reversed for good in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 3.

"And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth."(Genesis 9:1).

Yesterday, we talked about how the sacrifice Noah offered reversed the curse on the ground. And we are all reaping from it. In addition to the curse that was reversed, God blessed Noah and his sons. The blessing is the word God spoke over their lives. He said, 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.'

The scientific discoveries and exploits of numerous inventions we see today are as a result of the blessing. Only one lineage was cut off from the blessing and that is the lineage of Ham.

After the flood, Noah drank of the fruit of the vine and became drunk. The scripture said; "...Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the unclothedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the unclothedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's unclothedness. "(Genesis 9:22-23).

When Noah recovered from the effect of the drunkenness, he knew what Ham did. In response, he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham. He couldn't curse Ham because Ham was already blessed by God. And whom God has blessed, no one can curse.

And it is historically known that the descendants of Canaan migrated to the region of Africa after the flood. This explains the reason why Africa is so backward and under devoloped. However, if you are in Christ, you are free from that curse. The best thing that can happen to nations in Africa is to embrace the gospel. And there will be tremendous development if the leaders of our African nations are believers in Christ.

Well, the bottom line is that sacrifices provokes the blessing of God. And God has ordained his ministers to bless us. But you must connect with a worthy seed offering or sacrifice for the blessing to be activated in your life. And God backs up whatever an anointed servant of God speaks over your life.

Prayer: Lord God, I give you the glory and honour due to your name. I thank you for your word that does not fail. As I walk in the footsteps of Noah in offering quality sacrifices, I declare that I am blessed in all that I do in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 4.

"And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall ALL FLESH be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth." (Genesis 9:11).

We have so far unveiled two great lessons of Noah's sacrifice. First, it reversed the curse on the earth. Second, his children were blessed but the son of Ham, whose name was Canaan was cursed. We also noted that the descendants of Canaan historically migrated to Africa and said it's one of the reasons Africa nations are grossly under developed. But those in Christ are delivered from that curse.

Another benefit of Noah's sacrifice is the covenant God entered with Noah. The covenant says that God will no longer destroy all flesh through flood as he has done. And he sealed the covenant with a token; the rainbow - Genesis 9:12-17.

Noah's sacrifice is what has been providing a covering for us all from another complete destruction of all flesh through flood. It should be noted that the rainbow doesn't appear like it use to many years back. This is a pointer to the fact that the covenant is about to expire and that we are actually living in borrowed time. The end of this age is near.

Flood however has continued to cause several destructions of lives and properties in some parts of the earth. This is not a breach of promise to the covenant God made with Noah. The covenant never said that there will never be flood but it said that he will not permit flood to destroy or cut off ALL FLESH. Notice the phrase, 'all flesh'. It means that some flesh could still be destroyed with flood which we have been experiencing in some parts of the world.

Flood, which is one of the 'natural disaster' that occurs from time to time is actually a revelation of God's wrath on man because of gross immoral acts. In actual sense, it's not a natural disaster but God's wrath on those who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.

This is a wake up call for everyone to embrace the gospel of Christ and live right. A worse form of destruction is coming to those who reject the gospel and chose to live ungodly lives. It is the eternal destruction of lost souls first, in the pit of hell and finally in the Lake of fire.

The afterlife is real and you have been given the power to choose your eternal destiny. Those who embrace the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ are saved from the coming wrath of God. But those who reject it will all end up in the Lake of fire. And they will be tormented night and day forever and ever.

Prayer: Dear Father, I give you thanks for your mercy and righteous judgment. I also thank you for the salvation of my soul. I ask for your mercy and forgiveness in any way I have sinned against you. Preserve my spirit, soul and body blameless to the coming of my Lord, Jesus Christ in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 5.

"Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee" (Genesis 12:1).

Another great hero of faith is Abraham and he will be the focus of our discussion in the next few days. God instructed him to leave his father's house to a land he will show him. He gave him a seven-fold promise - Genesis 12:2-3;

1. And I will make of thee a great nation,
2. And I will bless thee,
3. And make thy name great;
4. And thou shalt be a blessing:
5. And I will bless them that bless thee,
6. And curse him that curseth thee:
7. And in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Abraham took a step of faith, left his father's house without a vivid description of his destination. It takes faith to do that. How many of us will embark on a journey without a knowledge of the exact place you are headed for? Not even an address.

According to the writer of Hebrews concerning Abraham, he wrote; "By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went." (Hebrews 11:cool. This was the beginning of Abraham's journey of faith.

Let's take a brief look at the promises God made to Abraham. First, he said that he will make a great nation through his lineage. This beats the imagination of the mind. Abraham was just asking for a child but God said he will make a great nation out of him.

God's plan are always better and far bigger than the plans we have for ourselves. This is why Apostle Paul wrote; "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us." (Ephesians 3:20).

So, whatever dreams or goals you want to achieve, God can do much more than them. All you need is obedience to his will for your life. Find out what God wants you to do for him and do it willingly and obediently. Begin with the basic instructions such as; regular attendance of church services, soul winning, tithe payment, giving quality offerings, reaching out to the poor and needy brethren, walking in love, learning to forgive one another and using your gifts or talents to serve him.

As you diligently do all these and fulfill your purpose on earth, he will certainly bless you beyond your wildest dreams and expectations and his name alone will be glorified.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I praise you for your wonderful works and infinite mercy. I commit my goals and dreams to you. As I walk in obedience to your word, bring them to pass in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

"And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 12:3-4).

Yesterday, we said Abraham's obedience to God opened up a door of manifold blessings for him. He wanted a child but God said I will give you a great nation. He embarked on the journey of faith not knowing where he was going to.

Today, let's take a look at the other promises in the seven-fold promise God made to Abraham. The second on the list says that he will be blessed. To be blessed means to be empowered to prosper. It's an invocation of good upon one's life. When you are blessed, everything you do turns into success.

Third on the list says that God will make his name great. And it was fulfilled just as he was promised. Fourth promise says that he would be a blessing. God does not only wants us to be blessed, he also wants us to be a blessing. Until you are lifted up to a level where you can put smiles on the faces of many, you are falling short of God's expectation for your life.

The fifth promise says that God will bless those who bless him. This is why we should celebrate every opportunity to minister to our fellow brethren. It's an opportunity for more blessings. The fifth says that God will curse those who curse him. One way you curse others is by speaking evil of them. So, don't speak evil of your fellow brethren if you don't want to experience troubles.

Last on the list says that in Abraham, all the families of the earth shall be blessed. This has become a present day reality for those who are in Christ. Thus, the scripture says; "And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." (Galatians 3:29).

So, on account of your union with Christ through the new birth, you are now a recipient of Abraham's blessings. That same empowerment that made Abraham to prosper is upon you. It doesn't matter if the present physical evidences of your financial and material status doesn't reflect it yet, you will still get there. Just examine yourself and ensure that you are walking in obedience and putting the principle of faith to work. If God did it for Abraham, he will do it for you.

Prayer: Lord God Almighty, I worship at your footstool. You deserve my praise and adoration. I thank you for making me a recipient of Abraham's blessing. As I walk in obedience to your word, I declare that Abraham's blessing will be evidently seen in my life in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 7.

"And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him." (Genesis 12:7).

After Abraham obeyed by leaving his father's house, the Lord appeared to him and gave him assurance that the land he was standing on will be given to his descendants, the scripture said Abraham built an altar as contained in the opening text. This is one of the secrets of Abraham's prosperity.

An altar is a place of sacrifice. It should be noted that when God called Abraham, his wealth status was poor. He left his father's house with no substance worth mentioning. But he cultivated the habit of giving to God sacrificially. Immediately after the first altar he built, the scripture said; "And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there HE BUILDED AN ALTAR UNTO THE LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD." (Genesis 12:cool.

You can see from the verse above that he built another altar again. And not too long from that moment, his story changed. The scripture said, "And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. And ABRAM WAS VERY RICH IN CATTLE, IN SILVER, AND IN GOLD" (Genesis 13:1-2).

Some of his wealth came from the favour he received from Pharaoh, the king of Egypt when he went to sojourn in the land of Egypt during the famine period - Genesis 12:16. Pharoah gave Abraham much substance after he took Sarah thinking she was Abraham's sister. But the Lord plagued his house and he later released Sarah and let Abraham go with all the wealth given to him including men servants and maidservants. It was bad market for Pharoah.

If you want to prosper financially and materially, learn to give sacrificially to God. Don't give what is convenient for you. Today, so many of God's children give just anything to God as offerings. Such kind of giving doesn't attract favour from God. Your offerings or seed must cost you something to attract uncommon blessings from God and set you on the path of prosperity.

It doesn't matter how old you are. God started with Abraham at the age of 75 years when he felt like all hope was lost. And not too long, his story changed. Your case will not be an exception. Society may have written you off. But with God, all things are possible. The change certainly will not happen overnight but it will come. So, begin your journey to prosperity by giving your best to God as often as you have the opportunity.

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you for the entrance of your word that enlightens the eyes of my understanding. I am resolved to give sacrificially to you just as Abraham did. And as I do, I declare that uncommon financial blessings will locate me in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

"And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness."(Genesis 15:5-6).

Abraham is still the focus of our discussion in this series on lessons we can learn from the heroes of faith in the Bible. The opening text said God declared Abraham righteous because he believed Him.

Abraham was not declared righteous because he kept certain rules and regulations. Righteousness was credited to him on account of his faith. This points to the fact God had always wanted to relate with us by faith and not by rules and regulations as contained in the Law of Moses.

This righteousness that Abraham obtained is what gave him right standing before God. The righteousness credited to his account is what guaranteed him to be the heir of the world. Thus, it is written; "For the promise, that he SHOULD BE THE HEIR OF THE WORLD, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but THROUGH THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF FAITH." (Romans 4:13).

Apostle Paul thus wrote; "For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt."(Romans 4:2-5).

So, stop boasting about how good you are for your goodness or righteousness doesn't justify you before God. You are justified by faith. The righteousness you have in Christ is a free gift just because you believe in Jesus. You are not righteous before God because you are obeying certain rules and regulations. Thus, scripture says; "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9).

And because you have been right with God by faith in Christ, you are an heir of God. All the good things God promised Abraham are yours. And it is also by faith you can lay claim on them. But remember that your faith will work on the vehicle of obedience and love. In other words, righteousness which you receive by faith positions you to receive from God. But a life of faith coupled with obedience delivers the goods to you

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the free gift of righteousness I have in Christ Jesus. And by this gift, I know I am a recipient of the blessings of Abraham. I therefore declare that wealth and riches are mine in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 9.

"And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies"(Genesis 22:16-17).

Perhaps, the greatest act of faith ever demonstrated by mortal man was done by Abraham when he passed the test of offering his only son Isaac as instructed by God. Abraham had trusted God for a child and he received the miracle after 25 years of waiting.
The Lord spoke unto Abraham, saying; "...Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of." (Genesis 22:2).

Abraham immediately obeyed without questioning God. He had to do so because he was already in covenant with God. When you are in covenant with someone, you are under obligation to do what your partner demands. Abraham didn't bother about the consequence of killing his son. He had made up his mind to also make his own demand from God to raise Isaac back from the dead. And God would have been obliged to do it.

In any case, it takes great faith to take such a risk. What if Isaac is not raised back from the dead after offering him? What if it wasn't God speaking to him? Well, Abraham has walked long with God to know his voice. So, he rose up very early in the morning to perform the sacrifice. I am sure he didn't disclose the details to his wife otherwise, she could have opposed it.

He went with two young men, his son and the wood for the sacrifice. When they came close to the place, he asked the two young men to wait behind and went alone with his son Isaac. The two young men could have stopped him from attempting to offer his son thinking he has lost his mind.

As they approached the place, Isaac asked; "...Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" (Genesis 22:7). Abraham responded; "...My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering..."(Genesis 22:cool. He didn't want to let Isaac know otherwise he could put up a fight.

Somehow, Abraham succeeded in binding Isaac and laid him on the altar. As he raised his hand with the knife in his hand to slay him, God spoke to restrain him and provided a ram for the burnt offering instead of Isaac. So, in a sense, Isaac died.

On account of this act of faith, God said; "By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. "(Genesis 22:16-18).

The first lesson we learn from this story is that we have been empowered to succeed and subdue the enemy because we are the faith seed of Abraham. The second lesson is that we can't outgive God. We can see today that the seed of Abraham which is the church cannot be numbered. Before you finish counting, new souls are added to the church.

So, whenever God places a demand on you to release something precious to you, don't hesitate. He could even ask you to empty your bank account to meet a project in church. He could also ask you to release the last money in your pocket. And when you respond in faith, it triggers uncommon miracle. So, cultivate the habit of giving your best to God and God will in turn release uncommon blessings to you.

Prayer: Almighty God, I magnify your holy name. I thank you for yet another day. I ask for grace to give my very best to you at all times. As I release my very best to you, I know that you will give back to me in multiple proportions in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 10.

"And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian. And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived."(Genesis 26:21-22).

Another great hero of faith is Isaac and he will be the focus of our discussion today. He is the miracle and promised child that God gave to Abraham. The name of his wife was Rebekah which he married when he was 40 years old. However, Rebekah was barren until Isaac interceded on her behalf and that barrenness was broken.

It's important to note here that even though Abraham transferred his blessings to Isaac, it didn't eliminate every single challenges of life. He was the blessed seed of Abraham but his wife was barren. And that barrenness was not broken until Isaac prayed.

It's surprising to know that the barrenness lasted for almost 20 years before Isaac prayed. Why did Isaac wait for this length of time before interceding for his wife? He probably taught it was up to God to bless him with a child whenever he wanted. This is how so many of God's children act. So, it's not uncommon to hear statement like, 'I live it in the hands of God'.

Most of the time, God intervenes in our situations only when we cry out to him for help. Isaac knew if he had kept quiet, his wife would have remained barren for a much longer time. So, he had to pray and the Lord heard his prayers. And Rebekah gave birth to twins, Esau and Jacob after 20 years of barrenness.

What are your expectations that have lingered for so long? Talk to God about it. Bring forth your strong reasons before God. The God who heard the prayer of Isaac will hear your prayers. The scripture says; "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off." (Romans 8:32, Proverbs 23:18).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I bless you and give you all the glory. I thank you for the opportunity to commune with you today. I come before your throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace for help in this hour of need. Grant the petitions of my mouth that I bring to you this day in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 11.

"Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great." (Genesis 26:12-13).

Isaac, the son of Abraham is still our focus in today's study. Yesterday, we learned how he interceded for his wife, Rebekah and the barrenness of about 20 years was broken.

There was famine in earth in the days of Isaac just like it happened in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Gerar in Philistine to see King Abimelech. The Lord told him not to go to Egypt like his Father Abraham did in his days.

This instruction is a great lesson. The fact that someone did something and got results does not mean you have to do the same thing. God permitted Abraham in his days to go down to Egypt when there was famine but he said Isaac shouldn't. He already knew the thought of Isaac even though Isaac hadn't even mention his intention to go to Egypt.

God told him to remain in the land of Gerar that was also affected by the famine. When God wants to bless you, the environment you reside is immaterial. He is a God that can turn deserts into water springs. What matters is that you hear from God each time you want to take a major decision in life.

And the scripture said that Isaac planted in the land and got a hundredfold yield. This is an amazing miracle. The scripture went further to say that Isaac waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great. In addition, it said; "For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him." (Genesis 26:14).

God doesn't just want us to be rich, he wants us to be so rich until we become the envy of all. You are now the seed of Abraham by faith. So, the blessing of Abraham that runs through the family should also manifest in your life. However, you must learn to hear from God before you take major steps in your life. This was one of the secret of Isaac's wealth.

He trained his heart to always hear from God. His spirit was atuned to God's leading at that crucial moment. When God spoke, he was receptive to his voice. God still speaks to us today. Take time to always study God's word and spend time to meditate. This was one of the reasons Isaac's spirit was receptive to the voice of God. He was a man who usually took time to meditate - Genesis 24:63. And if God did it for Isaac, he can do it for you.

Prayer: Everlasting Father, the I Am that I Am, I worship you in the beauty of holiness. You alone deserve my praise and adoration. I thank you for the good plan you have for me. You have placed me in a privileged position by adopting me into your family that has the seed of greatness. I tap into this grace and declare that the blessing of Abraham is working in my life in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 12.

"And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah. And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land."(Genesis 26:21-22).

There are times in life we face severe oppositions and even persecutions which often impede our progress at that time. Isaac had his own share of oppositions in life which will be the focus of our discussion today.
At a point, Isaac became so rich and mighty that king Abimelech asked him to leave - Genesis 2:16. "And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there." (Genesis 2:17).

The first project Isaac embarked on after he changed location was the digging of wells. He had to do it because he was in a new location though within the same city. We know how important water is to life. He actually started with the wells his father Abraham dug in his days but was closed up by the Philistines after the death of Abraham.

Isaac's servants continued the project of digging new wells. They found a well of springing water in the valley of Gerar but the herdsmen of Gerar contended for it and took it from them. We can see from this encounter that the herdsmen issue didn't start today.

They dug another well and the same herdsmen in Gerar took the well from them. Well, they didn't give up. The exploration of new wells continued until they dug another well that was not under contention. And Isaac called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.

Oppositions will definitely come coupled with persecutions just to frustrate your dreams and goals in life. Sometimes, it comes through evil projections from the kingdom of darkness. But no matter the kind of opposition or the source, don't give up. Keep working on your dreams. Keep pressing forward backed up with fervent prayers. God will certainly bring you to a state of rest where all your enemies can't stop you. You have all it takes to win. Just as the scripture says; "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." (1st John 5:4).

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you for your mercy and grace that has kept me thus far. I ask for wisdom to forge ahead in the midst of challenges, oppositions and persecutions. I am fully persuaded that I will triumph over my challenges and have testimonies in all my trials in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 13.

"And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?" (Exodus 3:11).

Moses is our next point of focus in this series. He was one of the greatest heroes of faith in the Bible days. He was born at a time King Pharaoh gave order to the midwives to kill the male born of all Hebrew children. But the midwives spared the male children because they saw that the Hebrew women were different from the Egyptian women in that they put to birth so easily even before they arrive.

So, when Moses was born, the mother could no longer hide him. She placed him in a basket and took the basket to the river bank. The sister stood nearby to see what will happen to the baby. At the same time, Pharaoh's daughter came to wash by the river and they saw the basket. She sent for maid to fetch the basket. When they opened it, it was a male child and she took interest in him.

Then, his sister suggested if she could get a Hebrew woman to nurse the baby for her. She consented. She went and called the mother of the baby and she took the child and nursed it for her. She was even paid for the job. It's interesting that she was paid to nurse her own child. Well, when the child grew up, she took the child to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her child.

Moses grew up in the palace of Pharaoh. On an occasion he went out to see how his brethren, the Hebrews were doing. He knew he was a Jew even though he was adopted by Pharaoh's daughter. He saw an Egyptian hitting an Hebrew man. Moses killed the Egyptian and buried him in the soil. The next day, he went out again and saw two Hebrews fighting each other. Moses tried to mediate but they asked him if he wanted to kill them like he killed the Egyptian yesterday. Moses then knew that what he did is certainly known and he fled from the palace into the wilderness.

As he wondered in the wilderness, he saw a bush burning but it was not consumed. As he turned to look at the strange sight, God spoke to him out of the burning bush saying that he has been chosen to go to Pharoah to deliver the children of Israel out of Egypt. But Moses responded, "Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?" (Exodus 3:11).

It's important to note here that God didn't chose Moses for the job because he had great qualities. He didn't choose him because he was flawless. On the contrary, Moses was the least qualified for the job. When God wants to use a man, he gives him the ability to do that assignment. So, if you perceive God has called you, stop looking at your weaknesses. His strength is made perfect in your weakness. He will put his ability in you to carry out that assignment. At the end of the day, his name alone will be glorified. Tomorrow, we will begin to study how God raised Moses from a nobody to become one of the greatest heroes of faith that ever lived.

Prayer: Glorious Father and Everlasting God, I magnify your holy name. You alone deserve to be praised. I thank you for delivering me from the power of darkness and translating me into the Kingdom of your dear Son. I pray that your good and perfect plan for my life be fulfilled in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 14.

"And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand. And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go." (Exodus 3:19-20).

We said yesterday that God chose Moses for the great task of bringing the children of Israel out of Egypt after they suffered affliction for about 400 years. It's imperative to mention here that what the children of Israel went through in the land of Egypt was part of God's plan for their lives. It didn't happen by accident. Even before Isaac was born, God unveiled the plan to Abraham - Genesis 15:13-14.

God permitted it to happen because of what he wanted to achieve in their lives. He told Abraham that after the four hundred years of affliction, they will come out with great substance - Genesis 15:14. I believe that the great substance is not only referring to material wealth but wealth of ideas. This is evident in the fact that the Jews are one of the best scientists and engineers in the world. The trials and afflictions they suffered in Egypt brought the best out of them.

However, God prepared the mind of Moses on what to expect in the great task ahead of him. He let him know that Pharoah will not let them go except with a mighty hand. Moses told God that the children of Israel might not believe that he was sent by Him. So, God did a wonder before his very eyes and turned the rod in his hand to serpent and back again to a rod.

Moses complained he was not an eloquent man. I like to say here that God knows our weaknesses before he calls us. Moses would have received healing for his speech impediments if he had not complained about it. God encouraged him not to allow it to bother him and said to him; "Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say." (Exodus 4:12).

Moses insisted he needs someone to be his spokesman and God suggested Aaron his brother to do that for him. Whenever we insist on having it our own way instead of God's own way, it often comes with repercussions. It was the same Aaron that yielded to pressure from the children of Israel to make a golden calf when Moses delayed in coming back from the presence of God.

Well, Moses and Aaron got ready for the job. Expectations were high. He also had fears because he was a wanted man. But God had told him that those who sought his life are all dead. Tomorrow, we will begin to look into his bold encounter with Pharaoh and the mighty signs and wonders God wrought through the hand of Moses.

Prayer: Mighty God, I worship you in spirit and in truth. You are the only ture God. The earth is full of your wonders. In the same way you delivered the Jews from the land of Egypt, I pray that you will deliver me from wicked and unreasonable men and women in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 15.

"And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go. "(Exodus 5:1-2).

Today, we will begin to look at the mighty display of God's power unveiled by the hands of Moses and Aaron in their encounter with Pharaoh. Moses and Aaron embarked on their journey to meet with Pharaoh and demanded he should let the children of Israel go. Pharaoh as predicted by God despised the request and dared God.

Moses responded by asking Aaron to cast his rod down. Aaron did and the rod became a serpent. Pharaoh's magicians did the same but Aaron's rod swallowed theirs. This was the beginning of God's display of God's power in the land of Egypt. Pharaoh however hardened his heart and did not let them go.

At this point, God began to afflict the land of Egypt with different plagues. The first plague turned the waters in the rivers in Egypt into blood. "And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt." (Exodus 7:21).

The magicians did the same and Pharaoh's heart was thus hardened. Moses went again to Pharaoh to demand the release of the people of God. Pharaoh declined and the Lord sent a plague of frogs to cover the land. The magicians of Egypt did the same but Pharaoh pleaded with Moses to take away the plague of the frogs with the promise that he will let the children of Israel go. Moses interceded on behalf of Pharaoh and all the frogs died. But Pharaoh still did not let them go.

The third plague was a plague of lice upon men and animals. It is worth noting here that the magicians attempted to do the same thing but could not. Satan's power has a limit. Only God is omnipotent. As usual, Pharaoh requested the lice to be taken away with a promise to release the people of God. God had mercy on him, took the plague away but Pharaoh yet hardened his heart.

The land of Egypt was smitten with seven more plagues which are; plagues of flies, plague of livestock, plague of boils, plague of hail, plague of locust, plague of darkness and the plague of the death of firstborn of all the families in Egypt. The tenth and last plague was the last straw that broke the camel's back and it will be the focus of our discussion tomorrow.

Prayer: Dear Father, I give you honour and praise for the wonders of your works. There is no power in the universe that can match the greatness of your power. You rule and reign over all the earth. I thank you for my complete deliverance from every evil works of darkness in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 16.

"For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER YOU, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt."(Exodus 12:12-13).

The mission of Moses to Pharaoh appeared to be an uphill task in spite of the many plagues unleashed in the land of Egypt. Pharaoh remained adamant in his decision not to let the children of Israel go. God however assured Moses that he would let them go with one more plague which is the death of all the firstborn in Egypt.

So, in preparation for this last plague, the Lord instructed the children of Israel to kill a male lamb without blemish of one year old and apply the blood on the lintels of the door posts - Exodus 12:22. He added; "For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you." (Exodus 12:23).

"And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead."(Exodus 12:29-30).

After the plague of the death of the firstborn including the firstborn of animals, Pharaoh finally released the children of Israel. And as they were leaving, "...they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians." (Exodus 12:35-36).

At last, the children of Israel were free from the land of bondage after about 430 years of in Egypt out of which the last 400 years were years of afflictions. Pharaoh couldn't even wait till the morning hour to send for Moses and Aaron. He sent for them at the middle of the night and asked them to leave.

A great lesson to learn from this story is that there is no power of darkness that can hold you down longer than necessary. God will perfect your complete deliverance from every power trying to stop you or slow you down from achieving your goals and dreams. If God did it for the children of Israel, he will do it for you. Tomorrow, we will look at how Pharaoh and his army were destroyed in the Red sea when they pursued the children of Israel few days after they left.

Prayer: Lord God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, I give you thanks for your faithfulness towards me. Deliver me from every evil works of darkness in the same way you delivered the children of Israel from Egypt in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 17.

"And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea."(Exodus 14:15-16).

Yesterday, we studied how the children of Israel eventually gained their liberty from the land of Egypt. However, God hardened the heart of Pharaoh and he pursued after them thinking they were stranded. The scripture said; "...the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon." (Exodus 14:9).

When the children of Israel saw them, they said to Moses; "...Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness."(Exodus 14:11-12).

And Moses responded thus; "...Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." (Exodus 14:13-14).

Moses had a good idea but it wasn't God's idea. He told the children of Israel to STAND STILL. But God said he should tell them to GO FORWARD. Second, he cried unto the Lord for help. But God said there was no point crying for help when you have the rod in your hand. He told Moses to use the rod to divide the sea - Exodus 14:15-16.

There is a great lesson to learn here. It's not all the time we should cry to God especially when he has given us authority in his name to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy. Just use that authority against the evil powers of darkness and they will bow at the mention of the name of Jesus.

Well, Moses did just that and the red sea parted. The children of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. What a mighty God we serve. Pharoah and his army pursued after them. Angels of God pulled the wheels of their chariots so they couldn't move that fast. Moses stretched forth his hand and the red sea came back together. Pharaoh and all his host got drowned in the sea. He is the only King that has no tomb in Egypt. Our God is indeed an awesome God.

Prayer: Dear Father, I bow my knees to worship and adore you. You are the great and mighty God. You do wondrous things. In the same way you judged Pharaoh, judge every wicked person who has vowed never to let me go forward in life in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 18.

"And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people."(Exodus 32:11-12).

The children of Israel, though free from the land of Egypt committed a great sin before the Lord in the wilderness. God had called Moses to come up to the mountain where he was for forty days and forty nights.

When the children of Israel saw that Moses delayed from coming down from the mountain, they said unto Aaron; "...Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him." (Exodus 32:1).

Aaron consented to their request and made a molten calf from their gold earrings which they broke off from their ears. They worshiped the molten calf and even offered sacrifices to it. To further kindle the anger of God, they gave the glory of their deliverance from Egypt to the molten calf.

God's anger was thus kindled against them and he said to Moses; "...Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves...I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation." (Exodus 32:7; 9-10).

Notice that God told Moses in his anger that his people which he brought out from the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. But Moses interceded for them and reminded God that he was the one who brought them out with great power and a mighty hand. He further said the Egyptians will mock at him if they hear he has destroyed them. Therefore, he asked God to turn from his fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against his people. And God repented of the evil.

Moses was not just a great leader, he was a great intercessor. He turned down God's offer to build a new nation around him and saved the children of Israel from utter destruction. He even asked God to blot out his own name from the book of life if he wouldn't forgive the children of Israel - Exodus 32:32.

If you are a leader, learn to stand in the gap for those you lead. Always ask for mercy on their behalf. Don't condemn them even in their errors. Rather, find ways to restore them back to God.

Prayer: Merciful and Gracious Father, I come before your throne of grace to ask for mercy and grace for help. Let your mercy prevail over judgment in my life. I commit my day into your mighty hands and I trust you will orchestrate my footsteps in the path of peace, progress and prosperity in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 19.

"And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also."(Numbers 20:10-11).

As the children of Israel continued their journey to the Promised Land, they came to the desert of Zin where there was no water for them to drink. They murmured against Moses and Aaron and wished they had remained in Egypt rather than die in the wilderness.

Moses and Aaron sought the face of God and God spoke to them saying; "Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and SPEAK YE UNTO THE ROCK BEFORE THEIR EYES; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink."(Numbers 20:cool.

But Moses instead of speaking to the rock struck the rock twice and water came out abundantly which they and their animals drank of. But God was angry with Moses because he didn't believe him. He struck the rock instead of speaking to it.

Moses had never performed any miracle through words. It has always been through the rod. But God wanted to prove to him that the power is not limited to the rod. He is a God of diversities. But Moses didn't believe God. Rather, he struck the rock but water came out all the same.

The sin of unbelief is about the worst sin before God. God can easily forgive other forms of sin but he strongly abhors the sin of unbelief. He wants us to fully trust him. So, on account of this sin, God told Moses he will only permit him to see the promise land but he will not enter it.

It's quite a touching experience for Moses who has spent 40 years in the wilderness trying to lead the congregation to the Promised Land only to be told he couldn't enter in just as they were about to get there.

We must be prayerful and very watchful in our journey of faith on earth. One little mistake can disqualify you from the heavenly race. The devil is working day and night to ensure that we fall into temptations that could make us misfits for the kingdom of heaven. Thus, the scripture says; "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." (1st Corinthians 10:12).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for your grace that is sufficient for me. I ask that you strengthen me by your spirit in my inner man to overcome every form of temptations the enemy brings against me. Preserve my spirit, soul and body blameless to the coming of my Lord Jesus in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 20.

"And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,) That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho." (Joshua 3:15-16).

Moses is dead and Joshua took over from him as his successor. The children of Israel have been delivered from the land of Egypt after crossing the red sea. The task ahead is to enter into the promised land and possess it. But the first obstacle that stood in their way was River Jordan.

God had instructed Joshua on what to do for the children of Israel to cross River Jordan to the border of Jericho. The priests that bare the ark were instructed to go ahead of the congregation and step their feet on the river. The moment they did, the waters flowing downstream were cut off and stood as a heap few miles away from Jordan. The upstream waters became dry on account of it and the children of Israel walked through River Jordan on dry ground.

This is another great miracle from God. In the time of Moses, he stretched forth his rod and divided the red sea. But this time, it was the contact of the feet of the priests that cut off the downstream waters and the river became dry. God is not a stereotype God who can be predicted on what he will do next to effect a miracle. This is why it's always important to follow his leading at any specific time to know what he wants you to do to secure the desired miracle.

Another great lesson we should learn from this story is that there is no manner of barrier standing between you and your blessing that cannot be surmounted. If the red sea could part way for the children of Israel to pass through and river Jordan was dried up also for their sake, God will surely make a way for you in spite of the seeming obstacles in front of you.

Prayer: Dear Lord God, I exalt your holy name. I thank you for the opportunity to witness a brand new day. I ask that you make a way for me to triumph over my challenges and actualize my dreams in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

"So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. (Joshua 6:20).

The children of Israel have successfully crossed river Jordan. The task ahead is how they could enter into Jericho and possess it. The people of Jericho put up a defense mechanism by shutting down the gates of Jericho. Nobody went out and no one came in. Besides, the wall of Jericho was so thick that houses can be built on top of it.

However, God gave Joshua the strategy to adopt; "And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. "(Joshua 6:3-5).

Joshua further instructed them saying; "...Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout."(Joshua 6:10). This instruction was so vital because if he had allowed them to speak, there is the likelihood that some of them will utter words of discouragement and the miracle could have been aborted.

Well, Joshua and his army did exactly what they were instructed to do. On the seventh day, they rose up very early in the morning and marched round the city seven times. When they heard the sound of long blasts of the trumpets, the people shouted with a great shout and the wall fell down flat. In other words, the walls sank into the ground and left no trace of any block above the ground level. This is another great demonstration of the mighty power of God.

The armies of the children of Israel went straight into Jericho, killed everyone but spared Rahab and her family for hiding the two spies who came earlier to search the land of Jericho. It's important to mention here that our Lord Jesus came through the lineage of the husband of Rahab - Matthew 1:5. There is a great lesson to learn here. For God to have permitted Rahab to be a part of the family tree of Jesus, it means that God doesn't hold your past against you. What matters is where you are now. So, don't let anyone condemn you because of your past.

However, this story unveils the power of praise. The children of Israel gave the Lord their loudest shout while the walls were still standing. But it fell down flat. It doesn't matter what you are passing through right now. Rejoice and give God the best of your praise. That obstacle standing between you and your expectations will give way in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer: Holy Father, I thank you for your wondrous works. There is nothing too hard for you to do. I refuse to be moved by the seeming hindrances to my dreams and goals. I hereby give you praise and I know every obstacles standing between me and my dreams shall give way in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons From the Exploits of Heroes of Faith - 22.

"Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day."(Joshua 10:12-13).

After the conquest of Jericho and the city of Ai, delegates from the land of Gibeon came to Joshua to make a covenant of peace with the children of Israel. They pretended to come from a very far country and acknowledged the victory God gave to Joshua in the conquest of Jericho and Ai. The princes of the congregation entered a covenant with them not to hurt them under oath only to discover that they were actually neighbours few days later.

When Joshua and his army got to Gibeon and other cities that belonged to the people of Gibeon, they couldn't hurt them because of the covenant and oath they took. Joshua however cursed them and made them bondmen, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of God - Joshua 9:23.

Five nations hearing that Gibeon has entered into covenant with the children of Israel teamed up to fight Gibeon. Gibeon immediately sent message to Joshua to come to their aid. Joshua responded immediately and fought against the allied nations that came against Gibeon and defeated them.

God himself cast great stones from heaven upon them and more people died from these stones than those the children of Israel killed. On the the same day, Joshua commanded the sun and moon to stand still until they were through with the slaughtering. And it happened just as he commanded them. The sun did not go down for about a whole day.

This is a remarkable miracle wrought by the hand of Joshua. A great lesson to learn here is that we should be concerned about our fellow brethren who are going through one form of challenge or the other and reach out to help them. The battle wasn't originally a battle against Israel. It was a battle against Gibeon, the city that entered into covenant with Israel. And Joshua didn't deny them the help they requested for because they were in a covenant relationship.

So, take the challenges your fellow brethren are going through as though they are yours. Remember, your brethren are your covenant brothers. Do whatever you can within your power to ensure they overcome the trials they are passing through. Thus the scripture says; "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. [Therefore] Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others."(Galatians 6:2, Philippians 2:4).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, my helper and a very present help in times of trouble, I adore you. I pray that you connect me with my destiny helpers and deliver me from dream killers in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
