In Genesis 1:1-4
The gospel of John
The Word Became Flesh

1. In the beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2. From the very beginning the Word was with God.

3. Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him.

4. The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people.

5. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.
You can equally add this.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

From here we can see the Trinity at work.

The first was God who created the heavens and earth....The Father

The next is the spirit of God moving over the waters....The Holy Spirit.

And finally the son who the Bible describes as the word of God....Jesus.

Another definition of Trinity is

Matthew 3:16-17

16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

From here we see Jesus...The son being baptized.

Then the spirit of God descending like a dove landing on Jesus... The Holy Spirit.

And a voice from heaven speaking...God the Father.

This is how I was thought the Trinity in Sunday school...we were told that before anything can be regarded as a doctrine it must be proven in the old and new testament, and Jesus must confirm it. We've seen where Jesus told his disciples that if you have seen the father you have seen me. And he also promised them the comforter which is the Holy Spirit.

This is why I believe it's safe to say that God is Trinity.
Re: Is God A Trinity? by Kei144(m): 12:13pm On Mar 19, 2023
God is not a trinity. God is one.

De. 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.

Re. 4:2 At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.
Re. 4:3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.
Re. 4:4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.
Re. 4:5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits [Or the sevenfold Spirit] of God.

Here we see the description by someone who saw God, albeit not in the physical, but in the spirit, just like in a dream. God does not resemble a man in any way. When the Bible says that God created man in His image, it is not talking about physical appearance, but the fact that man could host the Holy Spirit of God.

Re. 4:5 describes the Holy Spirit that emanates from God like a powerful wave. It shows God as the emitter of the Holy Spirit. Human beings also have spirit, but it is not powerful on its own. However, the human spirit becomes more powerful through enabling by a more powerful spirit.

Re. 5:6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the centre of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures
and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits [Or the sevenfold Spirit] of God sent out
into all the earth.

Re. 5:6 describes Jesus Christ. He is definitely not a part of God. But he does possesses the sevenfold Spirit of God, which gives him the capacity to operate like God. However, notice that Re. 5:6 prtrays him as a receiver of the Holy Spirit and not an emitter, in that his possession of the Holy Spirit is represented by seven eyes. Only God is the emitter; in Re. 4:5 God's sevenfold Spirit is described as blazing lamps--emitters of light..

Is God a Trinity?

Many Christian denominations teach that God is a Trinity. However, note what the Encyclopædia Britannica states: “Neither the word Trinity nor the explicit doctrine appears in the New Testament . . . The doctrine developed gradually over several centuries and through many controversies.”

In fact, the God of the Bible is never described as being part of a Trinity. Note these Bible passages:

“Jehovah our God is one Jehovah.”—Deuteronomy 6:4.

“You, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth.”—Psalm 83:18.

“This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”—John 17:3.

“God is only one.”—Galatians 3:20.

Why do most Christian denominations say that God is a Trinity?

Yes God is 3 in 1 as enumerated below:

God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit took part in the creation of the heaven and earth . That is why God said "Let us make man in our own Image" (Genesis 1:26). God the Father was referring to God the Son and God the Holy Spirit when He said "Let us make man in Our Own Image". God the Father said "Let there be light " and "there was light" (Genesis 1:3). God the Father spoke the Word and the Word which is God the Son brought the light into existence as seen in John Chapter 1. Even before the creation of the heavens and earth, God the Holy Spirit was hovering over the earth (Genesis 1:2)

We Anglicans recite the Apostles' Creed during Sunday services. The Apostle Creed affirms the existence of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Trinity).

Please read the bible passage below:
When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:16-17)

In Matthew 3:16- 17 above, God the Father referred to God the Son as His Beloved Son in whom He is well pleased after the baptism of Jesus Christ. God the Holy Spirit descended in a form of a dove. This shows 3 in 1 God.

Also read the passage below:
2 Corinthians 13:14 - The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. This affirms 3 in 1 God.

These are mysteries that you cannot understand with your human comprehension but this mystery is true.

There are indications that God has a triune nature.

Matthew 28:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

For instance in the beginning, when God creates, the bible says, The spirit of God was hovering or moving above the waters, and then God said let there be light.

Also during the creation of man, God said, let us make man in our own image, notice the "Us" indicating more than one person.

The bible also suggests the unity of God, when it says, hear O Israel the Lord is one.

Jesus Also talks about the relationship he had with God before the world was created.

The Bible also says God is love, Love is only possible when there is more than one Person.

In the work of Salvation, all the persons of God are involved Just like in creation, for our salvation, God the Father sends his Word aka, God the Son into the world, and when the appointed time came for him to do the will of God, God the Holy Spirit came down upon him.

In revelations, There is description of God's Throne, in front of the Throne are seven torches, which are the Seven Spirits of God, or the different manifestations of the Holy Spirit, then it also describes the one who sits on the throne, That is God The father, then we see the Lamb of God, come before the throne, only the lamb of God is worthy to take the scroll from God the father and open it seals.

Now after the lamb took the scroll, there was rejoicing in heaven and the elders and the angels worshiped both God the father and Jesus Christ. At this instance, Only the Seven torches, The one on the throne and the Lamb of God, remain upright.

Judek2:
Let me explain the Trinity in a simple way..
There is God, the father, From him came forth his WORD, and his SPIRIT..

His word is not separate from him, making his word a part of him, that same word became flesh in his son Jesus Christ, and walked on earth.
God's word is also God himself, meaning that Jesus is God himself.

The Spirit of God is also not separate from God, his holy Spirit is not in human form but an unseen being that bears witness of God..
God's Spirit is also God..

Just the way you cannot separate ingredients from soup, the same way you cannot separate the Trinity of God.. Its that simple yet complicated for most people..

Wow!

Re: Is God A Trinity? by Akaegwu(m): 1:16pm On Mar 19, 2023
That we believe and confess
that our Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son,
is both God and human, equally.

He is God from the essence of the Father,
begotten before time;
and he is human from the essence of his mother,
born in time;
completely God, completely human,
with a rational soul and human flesh;
equal to the Father as regards divinity,
less than the Father as regards humanity.

Although he is God and human,
yet Christ is not two, but one.
He is one, however,
not by his divinity being turned into flesh,
but by God's taking humanity to himself.
He is one,
certainly not by the blending of his essence,
but by the unity of his person.
For just as one human is both rational soul and flesh,
so too the one Christ is both God and human.

He suffered for our salvation;
he descended to hell;
he arose from the dead;
he ascended to heaven;
he is seated at the Father's right hand;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
At his coming all people will arise bodily
and give an accounting of their own deeds.
Those who have done good will enter eternal life,
and those who have done evil will enter eternal fire.

This is the catholic faith:
one cannot be saved without believing it firmly and faithfully.
Re: Is God A Trinity? by Autobot05: 1:19pm On Mar 19, 2023
In my little understanding of the bible

God is God .. the creator of heaven and earth
Jesus ... is the Son of God
The holy spirit is the comforter of the Christians after jesus returned to the father

I don't think they are equal
Re: Is God A Trinity? by Akaegwu(m): 1:21pm On Mar 19, 2023
Now this is the catholic faith:

That we worship one God in trinity and the trinity in unity,
neither blending their persons
nor dividing their essence.
For the person of the Father is a distinct person,
the person of the Son is another,
and that of the Holy Spirit still another.
But the divinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one,
their glory equal, their majesty coeternal.

What quality the Father has, the Son has, and the Holy Spirit has.
The Father is uncreated,
the Son is uncreated,
the Holy Spirit is uncreated.

The Father is immeasurable,
the Son is immeasurable,
the Holy Spirit is immeasurable.

The Father is eternal,
the Son is eternal,
the Holy Spirit is eternal.

And yet there are not three eternal beings;
there is but one eternal being.
So too there are not three uncreated or immeasurable beings;
there is but one uncreated and immeasurable being.

Similarly, the Father is almighty,
the Son is almighty,
the Holy Spirit is almighty.
Yet there are not three almighty beings;
there is but one almighty being.

Thus the Father is God,
the Son is God,
the Holy Spirit is God.
Yet there are not three gods;
there is but one God.

Thus the Father is Lord,
the Son is Lord,
the Holy Spirit is Lord.
Yet there are not three lords;
there is but one Lord.

Just as Christian truth compels us
to confess each person individually
as both God and Lord,
so catholic religion forbids us
to say that there are three gods or lords.

The Father was neither made nor created nor begotten from anyone.
The Son was neither made nor created;
he was begotten from the Father alone.
The Holy Spirit was neither made nor created nor begotten;
he proceeds from the Father and the Son.

Accordingly there is one Father, not three fathers;
there is one Son, not three sons;
there is one Holy Spirit, not three holy spirits.

Who did GOD refer when HE said let us make man in our image in the book of Genesis ??
Re: Is God A Trinity? by Akaegwu(m): 1:22pm On Mar 19, 2023
Nothing in this trinity is before or after,
nothing is greater or smaller;
in their entirety the three persons
are coeternal and coequal with each other.

So in everything, as was said earlier,
we must worship their trinity in their unity
and their unity in their trinity.

Anyone then who desires to be saved
should think thus about the trinity.

But it is necessary for eternal salvation
that one also believe in the incarnation
of our Lord Jesus Christ faithfully.

Now this is the true faith:

That we believe and confess
that our Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son,
is both God and human, equally.

He is God from the essence of the Father,
begotten before time;
and he is human from the essence of his mother,
born in time;
completely God, completely human,
with a rational soul and human flesh;
equal to the Father as regards divinity,
less than the Father as regards humanity.

Genesis 1:26
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

From the above bible verse, we can see that God said "Let us create man in our own image" God didn't say "Let me create man in my own image" I hope this will end the debate.
Yes God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy ghost.

See this gibberish you just typed up there!
God is not 3 in 1. God is one and Jesus is not God. He's the Son of God.
Jesus said He came out from the Father. He also said he from the Father and will return to Him. If it's not absurd to you that someone would come out of himself or return to Himself, I don't know how to to explain common sense to you.
And no, humans are not body soul and spirit.
The Bible said we were formed from the dust and God breathed into us and we were made a living soul.
Bible never mentioned we were given a soul. The breath of God made us a living soul. And what happens at death when God's breath leaves us? We go back to dust. That's common sense and it's simple as that.
There's God the Father and Jesus is His Son because He came out from Him. That doesn't make Jesus any less than His Father. Let's be guided.

Jesus is a messenger of God not the son of God. God does not have a son and him only is above everyone else, nobody is closer to him in anything.

28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

It could mean the Father has greater authority, for instance in matters concerning the events of time. The father over-rules which is still in unity with the Son and the Spirit.

For Christ is the head of the church, and we are subject to the Lord and the Lord is subject to the father. God will is perfect.

You are probably the one who lacks understanding.

The doctrine of the Trinity means that there is one God! who eternally exists as three distinct Persons — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Stated differently, God is one in ESSENCE and three in person.

Just as a man is (I) BODY (ii) SOUL; AND (iii) SPIRIT. The difference is that Man is not co-eternal, like God. In the beginning (Genesis 1), God said let us create man in our own image - in the likeness of God.

It is never a contradiction to refer to God has 1 in 3 persons.

These things were express in the words of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
