Jace My Puppy: We Need Your Advice by Girlee(f): 10:55pm On Mar 14, 2023
Hi everyone!
I'm going to be needing a few advise concerning Jace, my puppy.
My dad brought Jace in, on the 24th December, last year as a surprise present (something like that).
Everyone including my mum (she forbids dogs) fell in love with Jace at first sight.

The problem:
Jace should be about 5 months old now and since he was born, has been feeding on human food which sometimes causes him to throw up.
While bathing him one day, we discovered that Jace has been infested (don't know if that's the word) with lice.
For a moment, I hated Jace and wanted to get rid of him but the hatred was just for a moment. My twin and I love Jace and treat him like he's a human baby.
We told our mum about it and she suddenly grew intense hatred for Jace that she'd just go and hit him whenever she gets the chance.
My twin and I also called and informed our dad about Jace's condition and that Jace needs urgent healthcare but he didn't mind us.
Jace has been obviously suffering and we've been helping him pick some lice out but still it's not really helping.
Sometimes, Jace's poos are filled with worms. This got us to start asking questions and we were told that he needed to be dewormed.
My twin and I are broke but my dad who isn't, doesn't want to help.

Today, we noticed some tiny black moving stuffs falling from his body and discovered they were nits abi upcoming lice.
We informed our mum but she could only suggest that we get rid of Jace by selling him.

Honestly, this isn't the first time my mum is bringing that up and it has always ended in quarrel. My twin and i have been trying to consider selling him off but it's hard!😩 We love Jace. We've bonded with him so much and it's hard to see him go.
Sometimes Jace starves because he can't eat some of our foods.

I really have few options and I'm willing to try anything just to make Jace happy and well.
Pet owners and vets, what would you suggest in this matter?
I doubt if Jace would be properly taken care of by this woman my mum speaks of. (My mum told a woman about Jace and this woman is interested in buying Jace. My twin and her didn't allow her but she wouldn't give up).
Would Jace find it easy to cope in his new environment and with his new owners if he gets sold out?
Would Jace die soon if we don't treat him ?

I can see it in Jace's eyes that: he's loyal, he loves us, he always wants to impress us, he understands us and would keep his cool even when he's obviously starving.

Ps: I'm sorry if this seems too lengthy 😔, thanks for reading

Ordinary deworming pill you cannot buy, or medicated dog shampoo to bathe the dog with, now I understand what they meant by “No bad dogs, just Bad owners”
Where do you keep the dog? How often do you bathe the dog? Did you vaccinate the Dog?

First off, you can't take good care of a dog without spending on it, buy a good dog shampoo and amitraz, after you bathe your dog, mix the amitraz with water like you would Dettol, pour the water over the dog and leave to drip and dry, the fleas would be killed, also try and deworm the dog, take it to a vet for vaccination and deworming. As for the food, if it can eat your normal house food then you should continue but you should still add other things to it's diet. You can go to where they sell and kill catfish and get the intestines, boil and mix with rice, it's very nutritious.
Bathe your dog at least 2 times a week while treating with the amitraz once until you notice that there's no more parasites on it's body
You'll have to spend on your dog and if you can't, you'll have to give it up to someone who can. Don't sell to anyone you're not comfortable with.
I hope you can take good care of your dog or find someone good to sell him off to
Good luck

I went job hunting today with my twin and when we returned, My mum and Jace were nowhere to be seen.
At once, I knew she's done what she had always wanted to do. She came back few minutes later and told us that she has sold Jace off.

My twin and I have been seriously depressed since morning. I know it's all for the good of the dog.
According to her, the buyer has promised to treat and take good care of Jace.
In this matter, my twin and I are helpless so we just have to accept the fact that Jace is no longer ours.

Ps: I appreciate your wise words of advice. I'm grateful.

Bad owners indeed.
The thing is that I wouldn't get a dog if I don't have what it takes to keep it healthy. We had no idea my dad was bringing in a dog that day.
And we were happy that he bought it himself which meant that he would take responsibility of its needs. We had no idea he would join force with my mum in hating Jace.

Yeah! Common deworming pills I couldn't buy. Shame on me...

Thanks.

Geez, sorry about that and for my disappearance. Did you at least find out to whom Jace was sold out to? If you're sure that they'd take care of him then you should be happy he's with good people. Though what your mother did was wrong, selling him off like that without you guy's approval. My advice is to just wait a bit, get a paying job and when you're sure you're ready, adopt another puppy. If you could move out of your parents house even better, if not try and convince them them to let you keep the dog. Once again sorry for everything, you'd come back from this better and stronger

Get deWorming pills for humans. Some human based drugs works on dogs also. To be extra careful, explain to the pharmacist.

As for the ticks, picking ain't enough. Also even if you use the best medications & shrubs on it, without fumigating the enviroment, they would be back. And even those who spend on their dogs, sometimes have issues eradicating Ticks.\

Since you ain't financially bouyant enough to care for the animal, would suggest you sell or gift it out to those who could because even if these issues gets handled, there's no guarantee something much more couldn't come up - which you people still would default on.

it's like having babies, but not having means to care for them even at such tender and vulnerable stage. The dog gan sef go dey lean because those Ticks go dey suck him dry. Add the fact that he's consuming mostly human based meals at such a young age, then you understand how unfortunate Life have been to the poor animal

Yeah! I saw jace two months ago and he was playing with another puppy.
Although he didn't notice me but I was glad that I saw him. I guess that was all I needed to stop worrying about his wellbeing.
He was obviously doing well and I'm happy.

My mum said his owners are giving him proper treatment. She knows because she's a friend to the woman she sold Jace to. She said they don't feed him with human foods but "dogfood".
I appreciate y'all for minding this thread. My depression is gone!
