That's not the way to renounce citizenship. They're doing such for social media, they can easily get another passport when they apply.

Destroying your passport doesn't release you from your citizenship, it only means you don't have a passport.

The process of renouncing citizenship is a whole legal procedure that can run into years. They should show proof that they've renounced Nigerian citizenship, then I will take them serious.

Also, renouncing Nigerian citizenship is very expensive. And you can only give up your Nigerian citizenship if you're a citizen of another country, to prevent statelessness.

To renounce, You'll first off all pay 450k naira to the ministry of interior after submitting your birth certificate, intl passport, proof of foreign citizenship, intent to renounce affidavits, local govt origin cert etc.

Then wait for the president to sign you off and release you from becoming a Nigerian.
