As someone who consults for organizations and several individuals on academic and professional research.

I can tell you of the excitement I got when I found out about ChatGPT in November, but this excitement was short-lived because of a serious discovery that could not make me ever use this technology on client work which I am privileged to work on.

The honest truth is that we are all lazy, including the expert too, and having a tool that seems to fix that looks like a relief, but as a senior colleague told me, work will continue to work even with or without the tool. My first discovery was from a work that I thought I have finished fast and after passing it to our standard and compliance department. It has to be returned because it was obviously a lazy job.

You heard that right, not just human that is lazy but AI too, many of the words were just repeated over again. Which was terrible. Doing proper academic research will never have resulted in that.

Second is that the tool was never designed to be used for academic or professional research as it has no reference nor the source original. So this thereby doubles the work of then looking for the material it source, yet the plagiarism is high.

The third which I will rap up to another day is that it is not designed to be perfect many research works are often specific and this tool is just not going to understand that. I could remember asking it obvious details about the CEO of OpenAI the company that designed it and missing it. So relying on such for your academic research can be a disaster, and finally, remember the model it is working with is not updated so you want to desist from using such tools and rather do it yourself or consult a professional.

In conclusion, I am not de-selling the efficacy of the tools. I think it is really powerful and can have a lot of impacts but just trying to enlight you that this generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) with the limited response should not replace during proper research if you want to contribute to the tree of knowledge in your discipline

ChatGPT will most likely not replace but will help people to work efficiently.

Last week, there was this algorithm implementation to predict the likelihood of someone having heart disease (QRISK3) deployed as a microservice in R. I wanted to change it to python code due to some performance and maintenance issue.. All i just did was to ask chatGPT to do the conversion and it helped saved a lot of time. At first I had some errors from the code, but I was able to quickly resolve it on my own.

A task that would most likely take a day or more was completed in less than hour.

ChatGPT is no different from Google Search, Only that it has been trained to respond conversationally.

It also takes away guesswork that is done when a person inserts a Search query into a Google search bar.

Of course, it cannot be used for research purposes and that is because, CGPT does not dig up information from thin air, it can only serve data based on already existing data.

Its Generative feature, which makes it look as though it is interacting how humans interact with each other is because it learns new 'Chat' or interactive patterns.

So If you use this AI tool for research purposes, what do expect it to print out?

I don't think so. Sometimes you just don't get what you want and even the answers it provides still need to be double checked. Morealso, it takes some level of knowledge to be able to use ChatGPT properly.

Chatgpt is merely something openai is using to market their AI technology, it is not meant to compete with or replace anything. The AI receiving your text question and giving answers is to you the smartness of the AI when it is integrated into other things.

It’s a very good software, that’s why you always remember in computer studies in primary school that they’ll tell you in the definition of computer that it is an idiot machine, but it can work faster than the human brain and accomplish lots of tasks.

The thing is the app works better in areas the human prompt already has sufficient knowledge in and can flesh up references easily and dot the i's and cross the t's effortlessly.

Nothing in life is perfect. I like it because it's very fast. Don't rely on it hook,line and sinker. Do your homework too.

International institutions have tools for tracking your research sources....You will want to be careful when you use it. Unfortunately our lecturers in Nigeria will only ask you where your sources are without having the right tools for investigation.

Since ChatGTP cannot avoid plagiarism, then it's a no no for me. Even though I haven't use it for any research, I believe it cannot be substituted for the traditional research we do.

An in depth research coupled with good plagiarism check on Turnitin is a goal.

But there are some interesting things you can do with it as an average user or a programmer.


Right now, because it's new, everybody or organizations is/are secretive on their intent with it. So, just know that you can do alot with it even in situations of war or cyberwar. As long as your enemies are communicating. In business, it is good in many applications. My team is programming some scenarios now with it, so our strategy is kinda secretive. To a layperson, it might look very limited in usage. but is educational.


Explore it and maybe you might do a breakthrough event that is more solution driven to the rest of the world.

If you don't want to use it, just move on and leave those that want to use it....
