A man on social media has cried out to what his children who went to school on Monday came back home crying told him.

On the 20th of March 2023, just 2 days after the Gubernatorial Election in Lagos state, my children who are student's of the School came home crying that their school principal used Yoruba language to address the entire students during Assembly. No more speaking English!!!

My children who can not hear nor speak Yoruba were left bewildered and confused but the Principal went on.

It has even gotten worse now because according to them, some teachers in that school now use Yoruba to teach students when they enter class. No more using of English!!!

My children who are Non-Yorubas do not benefit anything in that school anymore.

Why is a Principal who is supposed to be a learned Administrator treating Non-Indegine students this way

This is not good. I am from KOGI STATE. I AM NOT YORUBA. My children are NOT Yoruba and they do not hear or speak the language.

There are so many students in that school who are from the NORTH, SOUTH AND EAST in that school therefore the Principal and teachers should NOT be addressing the students with Yoruba. It is not professional.

How do u want these students to cope

A School is an Academic Environment and not a Village Environment where you speak your Native language while addressing a crowd of students from different ethnic backgrounds.

Even Buhari the current President of Nigeria does not address we his fellow Nigerians in FULANI or HAUSA.

I am an Hausa Man in Lagos state and I voted for you Sir. Irrespective of what is happening in Lagos state at the moment, I need you to look into the matter at hand.

My children do not feel the urge to go to school because they nolonger speak a language they understand any longer after what they witnessed on Monday morning.

Lagos state should be made conducive for all tribes to live in and school in irrespective of your ethnic background.

My children said their Yoruba classmates were laughing at them in class after the Principal addressed the whole school during assembly with only Yoruba. No English atall!!!

This is not good and doesn't speak well of a good Principal of a school.

We are all Nigerians. We are one. Let's stop this tribal discrimination that has began in Schools ever since the Gubernatorial Election on the 18th of March, 2023.

Before now Yoruba language was not compulsory in most schools, meaning you can choose Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa language.
The law then was you must pick one language.
What the Lagos state House of assembly did is to make Yoruba language compulsory. Meaning as long as you are in Lagos, be it private or public schools the study of Yoruba language is a must.
Which is a good idea,
But the official language is still English.
