David Hundeyin, a Nigerian journalist notorious for his controversial and aggressive behavior, has been accused of scamming participants during his book launch program at the prestigious University of Oxford. Hundeyin reportedly charged attendees €20 for entry into the event, which was supposed to be free according to the university's policy. This fraudulent act has sparked outrage among those who were affected by his deceitful conduct.
The University of Oxford, in response to these allegations, swiftly dissociated itself from Hundeyin and described him as a fraudster and a criminal. The university also took the step of blocking Hundeyin on Twitter, sending a clear message that unethical behavior will not be tolerated by reputable institutions.
In addition to his fraudulent activities, Hundeyin has also been accused of being a misogynist and a sexist. During the book launch event, an attendee asked Hundeyin about the challenges faced by female journalists in Africa. In response, he reportedly made derogatory remarks, stating that women with fair complexions, tall stature, and long legs would not face career advancement hurdles in journalism. Such comments are unacceptable and have no place in a civilized society.
It is alarming that individuals like Hundeyin, who engage in fraudulent activities and make derogatory comments towards women, are allowed to operate with impunity. This begs the question of how many other individuals and organizations have been exploited by Hundeyin in the past. It is imperative that individuals like him are held accountable for their actions and prevented from causing further harm.
The University of Oxford's swift action in dissociating itself from Hundeyin and blocking him on social media sends a strong message that unethical behavior will not be tolerated. It is crucial that other institutions follow suit and take a strong stance against fraudulent activities, misogyny, and sexism. Only then can we create a society that is fair and just for all.
