The professional in the house, please help!

I join the company years back with immensely contributed to the success of my department as a professional. I always resolved technical issues that some other persons couldn't do.
My Issue

When it's time for promotion, my supervisor will recommend me but my colleague that are doing nothing will use union influence to take the post. Many of them see me as threat to them.

Now another problem has come, and they need my urgent attention. I have option either to assist or not. Also advise if i should move to another related department.

In the corporate circle you have to be smart and know how to stand your ground.

I advise you help them to the point of they not knowing how to do anything themselves and leave them when they need you the most (of course to a better job)
