Chapter Four

7 Steps to Consistent Financial Increase

1. You Must Work with the Right Mentality

As much as seed sowing is scriptural, God does not run a casino shop where you just sit at home, sow your seeds and money will just start falling into your home through the roof of your building. God expects us to work. Even the first man Adam was given a job to do.

“And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” (Genesis 2:15)

“And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.” (Genesis 2:19-20)

From the passage above, Adam was given both physical and mental work. He had to put his mind to work when he named the animals. I wonder how many months he took him to do that. That was a real time tasking assignment.
If you really want to be rich beyond measure, you must own your own business. Those who work for people or organizations have limited height they can rise to in wealth acquisition. Most people that are public offices holders that are very rich are thieves. It is a lot easier to own your business and watch it grow to an enviable height.

The moment you can identify a need and do something to meet that need, you have gotten yourself a job. Some jobs might just be to supply useful information and you will get paid for it. This book you are reading for instance is useful information you or someone paid for.
There are lots of people who just sit at home and still make money for themselves. All they do is to go on line and find out what people need and package the answer in the form of an information product and get paid for it. Be a solution provider and you will never be broke.

There are those who are waiting for a certain amount of money before they can start their own business. What you need first is an idea. When you have the right idea, target the right market and people will buy into your idea. The scope of this book will not permit me to go into details of business ideas and strategies but the message is that you must have something doing if you want to prosper.
When God promised to bless the Jews, hear what he told them;

“And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee. The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. (Deuteronomy 28:11-12)

If you have nothing doing, what is God going to bless? You don’t have to wait for an employed job. Just start something. Don’t be afraid of failing. The one who fails through an attempt is better than the one who never attempts anything. You can even start something new altogether. God has placed within you the ability to be a problem solver.
The book of Ecclesiastes says;

“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
Your attitude to work also matters and the excellence displayed in the discharge of your duty counts. We will look at this in a later section.

2. You Must Give Based On Biblical Principles.

If you must have lasting prosperity, you must give according to principles contained in the scripture. Giving is one way God has ordained for us to be blessed. In fact, everything in God’s kingdom revolves around the principle of sowing (giving) and reaping (receiving).

“And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.” (Mark 4:26-29)

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)

“Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.” (Genesis 26:12)

Like I mentioned in a previous section, the main reason why you work is to give. (Ephesians 4:28). On the contrary however, people are more conscious of their needs rather than plant their seeds first. A wise farmer will always take away the best part of the harvest to plant against the next farming season. In the same way, when you receive your income or profit from your business, plan your giving first before spending. If you spend first before giving to God first, you are dishonouring God. God wants you to give him first.

Look at what he said in the book of Isaiah;
“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11)

No matter how hard you work, if you do not practice giving according to the principle outlined in the scriptures, you will meet with frustrations. Remember what happened to Cain who did not honour God with his first ripened harvest but gave him the left over. God rejected his offering and he later became a murderer and a wanderer – Gen. 4:3-12.
Jesus said; “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6:38)
The next chapter will enlighten us on the different areas and ways we should sow our seeds.

3. Water Your Seed

Every wise farmer knows that you don’t just plant your seed and leave and abandon your farmland until the harvest day. They ensure that the seeds are properly watered. How do you water your seed sown? You water your seed through continuous giving. This is why a few persons have given up on the principle of seed sowing. They drop their seed once; expect a harvest and when the harvest doesn’t show up in their own time, they give up.
It is not impossible to get a harvest from a seed sown once. But one sure way you can guarantee a harvest is to give consistently.

“Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.” (Ecclesiastes 11:1-2,6)

4. You Must Get Rid of Every Weeds.

Every farmer knows that weeds always grow alongside the seeds sown and if the weeds are not removed, it could choke the growth of the seeds. Spiritually there are weeds that can destroy your harvest. One of such weeds is when you walk out of love. Jesus said;

“Therefore if thou bring thy gift (seed) to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” (Matthew 5:23-24)

Jesus is teaching us here that your seed will not be accepted if you have hurt someone you have not reconciled with. So, you must ensure you make peace with anyone that is keeping grudge against you.

Another form of weed is evil speaking. When you speak evil of your fellow believer, you may not reap any harvest. Remember, the child of God carries the blessing of Abraham. God told Abraham, he will bless anyone that blesses him and curse anyone that curses him. This blessing is what the child of God has inherited in Christ. So, when you open your mouth and speak evil against a child of God, you incur a curse instead of a blessing. And that curse could choke your expected harvest.

Negative words you speak about your finances could also block your harvest. You have to be mindful of what you say. The Bible says;
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21)

Unfaithfulness is another weed that can choke your harvest. What has God called you to do? Be faithful to it and you will abound with blessing.

“A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” (Proverbs 28:20)

5. Release Your Harvest Through Positive Confession

Words carry creative power. You can release your harvest through your words. Open your mouth and declare that your harvest (Specify it) is coming back to you. If you hold on to your confession, it will sure come to you.

“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” (Hebrews 10:35-36)

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering.” (Hebrews 10:23)

6. Increase Your Capacity to Give After a While.

When you notice that God has truly prospered you, your capacity to give should increase. You shouldn’t be at the same level of giving after a while. If your wealth increases and you still continue to give the same amount, you are acting dishonestly and stand the risk of losing your wealth.

Let’s look at the example of King Solomon and compare the first sacrifice he made to the second one. You will notice a remarkable difference.

“And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.... And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.” (1 Kings 3:4-5,13)

“And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.” (1 Kings 8:63)
Apostle Paul implied this principle in his letter to the Corinthian church;

“Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness” (2 Corinthians 9:10)

7. Step Up And Enlarge Your Tent.

Put in another sense, your source of income should expand. People who consistently grow in their wealth always look for new opportunities to invest their monies. You should never focus on one type of business only. You should not at the same time be a jack of all trade. Even if it is the same business you choose to stick to, you must be innovative. Package your product in a more excellent way. Outdo your past and your competitors in the same business.

If is service rendering business, you must provide better ways of rendering service such that you will attract new customers while retaining the old ones.

Never run your business outfit without anything new that will get people’s attention. People love change and if you don’t give it to them, you might lose them to your competitors who are doing something new.
