We all know Nigeria has been hit by waves of people both professionals and non professionals leaving the shores of Nigeria to seek for greener pastures overseas. While this is having a negative impact on all fields from ict, technology, education to medicine, I think Nigeria can benefit from it on the long run given the right circumstance and condition.
History has proven that most of greatest powers of old and in recent history Germany before the first and second war and also America attracted the best brains from abroad because they have freedom and support to flourish in different fields while also enjoying their fruit of their labour.
Take America today, they have one of highest pay when it comes to the science and tech industry, also there are a lot of fund to access to do your research so people from the world over troop in to get a bite of the cake thereby benefiting both the country and the individual also.
Now Nigeria already has a lot of people people working in different fields in the developed countries and gaining advance knowledge. If Nigeria can take care of some of it basic problem like
1. Energy because no modern nation can move forward without power.

2. Fuel supply, I think that will be taken care of once the dangote refinary comes online.

3. Security. The current police system should be broken down to the hierarchical order from local government, state, and federal policing system, then the government should have another agency as police of the police as check and balance.

4. Raise minimum wage especially in the key areas to match or at least to a reasonable level.

5. Create and avenue to make fund available and easily accessible for science and tech related fields and also create incentives for those who are ready to fund tech related stuffs.
Such move will help return our people back home with the knowledge they already acquired and it cause a repid development of the country.

Nigerians expertise residing abroad will not return home simply because..

. when they first landed abroad, they would immediately get angry at the system kept in place for them to live and thrive in back home

they would realize that it was a system that was built on greed, ethnic and religious bigotry .

. therefore after a successful career abroad, they would be Left with two choices. Either to destroy the system back home and start an entirely new one or they nationalize wherever they are for eternity.

They most of them are there because of the benefits but there also a lot of downside they have to put up. A country like can thrive well more than most of these developed countries without the extra burden. Religion is a tool of the powerful used for selfish gain but it can not be sustained for ever, it come crumbling down history is full of nations like that. Even recent activities in the North prove my point. Its only time before it backfire, also poverty promotes religion, when the people can't find hope in the physical, they seek it elsewhere.
It is gradual process the puzzles will fall in place.

You are right one of the major problems we are having is institutions.
We don't have institutions, take for instance we don't have government as an institution rather we have government as people.
If we have a working system, the institutions take care of it self irrespective of who is in power. If we have functional medical systems doctors won't leave their office when they know the consequences, they won't act lazy by reject emergency cases. How do you do that, there should be a system of control, a system of check and balance. A body under the ministry of health, infact all hospitals should have cctv cameras, all doctors should have their Id digitized so that you log in the morning and you must log out when leaving. The security department will be handled by private security. Infact a medical database is overdue, same check and balance should be applied in every section and if you misbehave there alot of people who will take your job.

everything with advantage has disadvantage. Till it hit you, you will never understand the effects of japa in Nigeria. I too my daughter to National hospital Abuja for kidney related issues that need emergency attention, I was booked for one month to come back for surgery because of limited doctors. Some people were given 3month. If you go to National hospital abuja you be depressed. Everything is very stressful. I know how long it took me to run the necessary scans. The hospital is like a market. Very busy and stressful

Sorry to hear about that, hope she is better now. Sometimes what you experience is not just due to lack of manpower rather it's due to poor attitude to work by the average Nigerian. Visit any hospital run by those same doctors and see how fast they respond.

Please do not misconstrue this as being insensitive to the plight of your daughter, but in the UK, for illnesses far less than this, they get booked for more than a year. However, I understand the point you are making.

I wish you and your family well.
