Fasting six days of Shawwal after completing the obligatory fasts of Ramadan is considered as a Sunnah Mustahabbah (recommended act). Muslims are encouraged to fast six days of Shawwal, as it carries immense virtue and reward. According to a saheeh hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), whoever fasts these six days will be rewarded as if they had fasted for a whole year.

Abu Ayyoob (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime."

Good one brother.

I have a question. I usually start the Six in Shawwal TWO DAYS after Ramadan ends meaning the Eid day and the following day, then start. But wifey is of the opinion that the 3rd is also part of Eid and as it is not allowed to fast on Eid days, I should wait and commence the Six in Shawwal the Fourth day.

Anything wrong with me leaving aside the Eid day and the day that follows and start on the 3rd day?

Any evidence from the Sunnah?

Thanks
