Iron injection, cutting of Piglets Teeths and Tail is the most important aspect of raising Healthy Pigs. At seven days old, Piglets need Iron injection. This will help in building blood in their system. At seven days old, Piglets Teeths and Tail will be cut off. Piglets always fight when feeding. They end up bitting themselves, thereby causing injuries on each other. This might lead to death. To prevent this, we cut their teeths. This won't affect the way they feed. Since they only take milk at that stage. Pigs are used to chewing their mouth. They chew their mouth when they are eating and when they are not. Since they are fond of chewing their mouth, they end up bitting each other's Tails. To prevent this, we cut off their Tails. Foodqueen: No it's not. They are saving the Piglets life by doing so. Leaving the Tail put them at risk. Other Piglets will keep chewing the Tail. While cutting the Teeth will prevent them from harming each other, when they are fighting for food. It is a practice that is acceptable Worldwide. Even White farmers do it. 1 Like

LocalFARMERS: I asked simple questions that need simple answers but you're replying with another question. I am a pig farmer, some of the information you posted is unreliable. I have my reasons 1. The picture of the matured pig you posted is not landrace, it is a crossbred 2. You said a pig was sold for 600k/550k? I don't know how possible is that. Pig(fattened) sells for about 1200 naira per kg liveweight, that means the pig should be weighing about 450 to 500kg? That is not possible, pigs don't weigh up to that when it is not a cow. Most matured pigs available in Nigeria weighs between 110 to 210kg in 1 year and 5 months depending on the breed. 3. You also said if someone sells 10 of the pigs, he will be 6M richer. What happpened to the cost of the production? If you sell pigs for 6M naira, about 4M to 5M would have been used for feeding,medication,salary etc. But if your claims are true, I would like to have your contact, if you help me sell my pigs at this outrageous price I will give you 30% commission. 2 Likes |

This your write up of selling one pig 600k is misleading. A breeding stock have not been sold for that amount, Even Duroc sow which is the most expensive breed can't be sold for such amount.. LocalFARMERS: |
