Is Speaking In Tongues A Must Sign Of Receiving The Holy Spirit? by Nobody: 7:07am On Mar 19, 2023
By receiving/having the Holy Spirit, we are filled with different gifts. Some speaking in tongues, some interpretation of tongues, some prophecy etc.

But i noticed most church and church leaders put priority in speaking in tongues as a must, if truly you have received the holy spirit. That means to them, if you cannot speak in tongues, you are yet to receive the holy spirit.

1. Jesus Christ never said one is filled with different gifts after one is filled with the Holy Spirit. That assumption is made by Churchians who make that conclusion solely based on what is written to have occurred on pentecost in the book of Acts. undecided

2. As for what is in fact written in Mark 16 vs 15 - 18, Jesus Christ instead taught that those signs would follow all those who believe — live their lives in submission to and obedience of His teachings and commandments — meaning that though speaking in tongues is not proof of the Holy Spirit it is an essential sign to be observed in all of those who are followers of Jesus Christ, this along with the other signs. So, it isn't meant to be one of the other but instead all the signs as indicated by Jesus Christ. undecided

.
15 He said to them, “Go everywhere in the world. Tell the Good News to everyone.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. But those who do not believe will be judged guilty.
17 And the people who believe will be able to do these things as proof: They will use my name to force demons out of people. They will speak in languages they never learned.
18 If they pick up snakes or drink any poison, they will not be hurt. They will lay their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” - Mark 16 vs 15 - 18
Now, speaking in tongues should not be confused with Speaking in Gibberish obtained in your churches which amounts to gibberish. Scripture meant a tongue as an actual language, not meaningless sounds repeated over and over. undecided

There's is nothing like speaking in tongues it's stark blasphemy a true christen should warship God by praying to Him in silence, that signifies humility, not speaking to God as if He's your mate. Clapping, singing, shouting and speaking on tongue are Fabrications brought about by modern christenity. Your people should learn to warship God with humility.

1. Jesus Christ never said speaking in tongues has anything to do with speaking to God. That assumption that it does is born of Churchianism and not of scripture. Also, praying in silence, and hiding does not signify humility but is meant to be an act of obedience to the commandment given by God. undecided

2. Yes, the acts you point out are all rituals associated with religion and not God. We are instead called to live in obedience of God's Law and Truth, Jesus Christ. undecided

Speaking in tongues means ability to speak different languages. Tongues means languages and not babble talk.

Which is proof that those churches are not of God

This miracle first occurred in Jerusalem on the morning of the Jewish Festival of Pentecost in 33 C.E. About 120 of Jesus’ disciples were meeting together when “they all became filled with holy spirit and started to speak in different languages.” ( Acts 1:15; 2:1-4) A large crowd of people “from every nation under heaven” gathered, and “each one heard them speaking in his own language.” Acts 2:5, 6. And there was a purpose for speaking in tongues.
To show that God was backing Christians and To enable Christians to give a thorough witness.
And speaking in tongues never continued permanently, The gifts of the holy spirit, including that of speaking in tongues, were a temporary provision. The Bible foretold: “If there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away with; if there are tongues, they will cease.” 1 Corinthians 13:8.

Some churches even teach their members how to speak in tongues.. They said it's compulsory to know how to speak it.

But they are always ignore some parts of the bible that don't suit their narrative like If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God.

The particular indictment against such is from Jesus Christ Himself.

how do we know the language a person speaking in tongue is using? If it's an earthly language, how come satan cannot decipher it? And if it's not then how come men could know the language the apostle were spewing when in tongues.

Where the Holy Spirit is, Satan can not come near, so at that time he is locked out.

Which is why we sing "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, There is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17

The captives are set free
The wounded are made whole

The Word of God is always directed to mortal men so that they might live and not die as devils. It is not for devils for their own portion is death and eternal fire.

But it is men who have chance to choose live or choose to die.

1. The person who speaks the language should be able to ask the one who has given it to tell him exactly what language it is that he speaks. There are so many discontinued languages on this planet, so it is not all something you can go out seeking to verify on your own. But if the spirit that gave it was of God, then the same spirit should know what tongue it speaks. undecided

2. Tongues are human languages. But, where do you get the idea that Satan cannot decipher or know the human language that one speaks? undecided

To buttress your point all those gifts are early signs that a new child has just been born so the child will surely do childish things {1Corinthians 13:11} the first century Jews need to see all these signs as a fulfilment of the promises their God made to them through prophet Joel {Act 2:16-18 compare to Joel 2:28-30} but since the child (Christianity) will grow up to maturity all those childish gifts will be done away with! 1Corinthians 13:8

A child cries at birth shows that the child will make sound, picking up items shows that the child can see things around him, joining you to do certain things shows that the child is watching your footsteps.

When Christianity started as a baby speaking in tongues means people throughout the earth will have access to what they are about to start preaching and teaching.
Miracles means the God of Christianity will solve all the problems facing mankind when His kingdom comes.
Prophecy means the God of Christianity can see what the future holds for mankind.
Knowledge mean the God of Christianity can equip people with wisdom.

So if anyone is still expecting what happened in the first century today that means such a person doesn't think the child should grow up to maturity. It's just like expecting a child born 40 years ago to still cry, crawl and touch everything his eyes can see around! 1Corinthians 13:8

1. I am afraid I am unable to hold brief for Paul in that case since what he claims there even goes against the event that took place on the day of Pentecost where the disciples reported that men who came to worship in Jerusalem understood the languages they spoke. Again, tongues are human languages from all across the globe. And Jesus Christ never said that Satan does not understand the languages of men. undecided

I have some question though.
1. Do we receive the gift after or before baptism? or is there a pattern?

2. Can you speak in tongues without holy spirit, though you "believe"?

3. Why are there no one with "interpretation of tongues"? Also why is there a need for it when you are praying to GOD and not man?

1. Speaking in tongues? I receieved mine when I became born-again i.e. when I entered into the Kingdom of God. Now understand this, while I equally became born of the spirit(not to be confused with the holy spirit at all), I do not have the Holy Spirit yet. undecided

2. Yes! See my answer in #1. Contrary, to what your churches teach you, it is only those who are holy aka those who are no longer sinners that can be imbued by God with His Holy Spirit. And in order to be set free from slavery to sin, one has to endure, beginning from the point of becoming born-again. It involves extensive training of sorts to get one to trust and obey and at the same time come to a knowledge of the Truth of God. undecided

So, sticking to what Jesus Christ instead said of the "gift". It is a sign given to those who believe in Him— living their life in submission and obedience to His Truth —and not necessarily those who are completely free from sin aka Sons of God/Holy vessels of God. undecided

3. Jesus Christ never said anything about a need for interpretation, to begin with. So, again, I cannot hold brief on this at this point for Paul and his claims. undecided
