Oya let's me contribute
This thread will make more sense to those who have need for a lot of data, (heavy data users).
Like me, they will probably agree that the Nigerian unlimited data as advertised by all the ISPs are actually unlimited of some sort depending on the ISP

Why do people have to pay heavy for an advertised product only to be deceived by poor speed, poor equipment or even the worst one - speed throttling - Can you even believe it?
So I have tried a few of these providers and I think I'm truly give some reviews.

First of, whilst in South Africa I found out I could select speed and pay for unlimited data without any throttling back. I paid as low as the equivalent of N7,500 per month and didn't pay for equipments as long as I renewed monthly.

In the UK, infact that one is going too far, because inside the buses and malls the free internet is unlimited although subject to usage policies to prevent fraud.

Back home in Nigeria, maybe there's something I need to be made to understand but all the service providers give you actual value for money paid depending on the ISP.

1. Spectranet was my first port of call, and I am made to pay an amazing N18,500 for the unlimited gold plan, which actually is beautiful till you hit the 100GB limit then you are throttled back. The catch is that, the data seems to run faster than expected and when you accost customer service and ask for a breakdown but something is done after many mails and calls.

2. Ntel became an option but there customer experience and speed are okay but for a heavy
user like me it nothing to write home about. I stand corrected! But ntel for the basic user, might make sense, but definitely not for the heavy users, the best I have gotten on ntel is close to 2mbps. (Not even perfect for Netflix streaming.) The new one they are doing is asking you to renew subscription via there staff.

3. Swiftng is now making their unlimited plan with a 3mbps come at a whopping N24k! Imagine! It's outrageous how they make so much money from something that should be more affordable. Their service can also be apologetic.

4. Connekt Broadbandis making their unlimited with a 2mbps affordable, excellent customer service

If you have tried smile network or other providers, please share your experience, I hear in Lagos Mainland Wifi.com.ng is a horrible experience as well.

I believe the NCC should wake up to doing their job and make it a better experience for the users. The mobile providers have good speed but you pay out of your nose if you need to use heavy data, never a good idea for heavy users.

My opinion!

When it comes to unlimited data... Nigeria still got a long way to go.until we get broadband across the country, unlimited data is going to be expensive and almost impossible across the country. In the UK..Data is like water only when you use broadband at home ..you use it the way you like but even mobile data is still limited and is capped. So don't expect MTn and their likes to give you unlimited data. Fibre optic across the country will guarantee that but again Nigeria is not ready for that, especially with the power situation in the country.it will make it more expensive and difficult.

Most ISP use solar system now.

I agree with yo but Solar system installation will impact on the cost. Just imagine the amount that will be needed to build solar system across the country for their booster stations. That money can be used to further expand their coverage. It really does not encourage anyone to invest it. Irregular power supply is a major problem in Nigeria. It is drawing us back more than we realize.

It does MTN and Airtel adopted the solar system, why do you think a bank decided to use solar for its HQ? Cost of diesel is abnormally high, solar is a long term.

Yes..I used kkonnect (fiberone) in 2018 when I was in Nigeria. They are truly unlimited with their unlimited plan for 25k or so. Installation came to about 50k.
The problem like I said earlier is the coverage. Kkonnect did not fully cover Lagos alone as at that time (I don't know about now) not to talk of the whole of Nigeria. A major challenge is this power issue. If they decide to use diesel or even solar in all their sub stations..they might never break even with the current pricing they are on. Once power is settled. Companies would find it easier to expand. This is just the truth.

I mounted my dish very high, on top of overhead tank and used binding wire to hold it strong.

That's the location imo.

Just to add to it. The only ISP at 150-200mbps for true unlimited internet at around 30k that I know of is Starlink. What happened is that a lot of people put too much unrealistic expectations on it, which is wrong. But one thing all the other ISP's lack that Starlink takes care of is the location coverage. Even in very heavy rain, I can still stream 4k contents with no issues. However if you are a person that would upload contents, it might not just be for you.
Just know that local ISP's will tell you that once you reach a particular quota your speed will drop, even when they claim unlimited.
Screen shot of what I used in 8 days of getting it, and it's not a month yet.

Network providers cannot rely on government to provide power for their stations.

It's cheaper for them to actually generate their own power than rely on government especially in countries where disiel is cheap like nigeria or with enough source of clean energy.

Even if there is 24/7 electricity in naija, the network won't start paying nepa cos it will be more expensive on the long run than just building their own solar farm or diesel generator with cheap disel source.

Source of power is not the reason they have not expanded their network.

lack of fund, willpower, government support, over taxation etc.

I have addressed this in the past.
