"Tertiary Education Trust
Fund (TETFund) was
established as an intervention
agency under the TETFund ACT
- Tertiary Education Trust Fund
(Establishment, etc) Act, 2011;
charged with the
responsibility for managing,
disbursing and monitoring the
education tax to public tertiary
institutions in Nigeria."

These moneys, as education tax, are disburse to public tertiary institutions at present. So how can students benefit from the fund their school recieves. Without students public tertiary institutions are not eligible to such a fund. So students have a stake in this.

As students, we have to develop a system whereby we have access to stable revenues from the state. Whether we realise it or not we are a brand, as students, and we play a key role in society. This is enough value for a source of revenue. Or is there such a fund that we have access to that i'm not aware? Somebody enlighten me i beg. And i'm not talking about annual bursaries from corporate bodies by way of schorlarships. Anyone?
It is for our collective good.

Students are the future cognoscenti, schorlars and academicians; we shouldn't have to stay in hunger, and if we want to attain our full potential.
Students need to start to apply knowledge. We have to identify loop holes in the education system and exploit them for our sake. We have to open our eyes in one voice and develop an industry for us. I'm going to look into this tetfund some more to see what i can come up with. If you have a better idea, please share

"To
enable the TETFund achieve
the above objectives, TETFUND
ACT, 2011 imposes a 2 percent
(2%) Education Tax on the
assessable profit of all
registered companies in
Nigeria. The Federal Inland
Revenue Service (FIRS) is
empowered by the Act to
assess and collect Education
Tax. The Fund administers the
tax imposed by the Act and
disburses the amount to
tertiary educational
institutions at Federal and
State levels . It also monitors
the projects executed with the
funds allocated to the
beneficiaries.
The mandate of the Fund as
provided in Section 7(1)(a) to
(e) of the TETFUND ACT, 2011
is to administer and disburse
the amount in the Fund to
Federal and State tertiary
educational institutions,
specifically for the provision
and maintenance of the
following:
Essential physical
infrastructure for
teaching and learning
Instructional material
and equipment
Research and
publication
Academic staff
training and
development
Any other need
which, in the opinion
of the Board of
Trustees, is critical
and essential for the
improvement of
quality and
maintenance of
standards in the
higher educational
institutions."

This TETFUND thing is hard to crack. Looking at the fifth provision it says "Any other need
which, in the opinion
of the Board of
Trustees, is critical
and essential for the
improvement of
quality and
maintenance of
standards in the
higher educational
institutions."

I was thinking is there a way students can constitute or be responsible for a standard, such as the school fund us to manage that good or service.
In the worst case scenario, a good could be Goodwill; the school's reputation. An arrangement whereby students are funded not to misbehave. I know it sounds ridiculous in simple words and, therefore and of course, we would have to add complexity; in terms of legality, authority and formality. But basically they'll allocate and apportion us a fraction of the tetfund they recieve so we come to class, recieve lectures, and go home to study in peace; so that education can continue.
Think of it. I'll come back and embellish this point further, so that it sounds really meaningful because i believe there is sense in this.

I'm going to need persons with knowledge on forming associations in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian constitution. I, myself own a copy of the constitution.

I know you all can see this thread. It's going to be around for a long time. It might seem like a joke but everything begins as such.
I'm going to need a great deal of assistance from a lot of brilliant and intelligent students.
The aim is to come about a stable source of revenue from state. I don't intend to be one of those people that just go through school yet, outside school, they can't effect change or cause a positive impact on society. I know you see this thread and i know it's better than pretending to earn a living from scamming on facebook; as yahoo boys, being chased about by SARS and the Police.

I'm going to need people who know what they teach them, who didn't cram knowledge. Lawd! Battery low!

Beforehand, i have some questions and i want us to answer these questions as students; as a body: the student; which are:

What will happen if the student refuse to go to school? One thing for certain is education will not continue.

The next question, therefore, is what are the consequences if education were to cease? A country that cannot deliver education. What kind of country cannot provide education?

Ultimately, we smear the reputation of the state.

I know these all sound overboard but with the state of things at present, as we lose order in the country; the system of checks and balance has failed. A public office does as it desires.
So i say we take it to the head as the student, not of any university; the student.

What are the responsibilities and the goods of the student? We have to hoard that good for our subsistence.

What are the responsibilities of the school in regards to the student? What isn't the school doing: we strike from there.

Most important, what are the responsibilities of the state in respect of the school and the student. That's our source of revenue.

What is the Nigerian law that regulates the school and the student and their single relationship with the state?

Where is the student? Come on!! Answer these questions with me. I can't do it all, right, my own.

Society is a group of people who
commonly share values, requirements
and interests. Student is an important
pillar in building and educated society as
education is the basis for living in a
world community as trade, industry,
economic or political.
For the prosperity and betterment of a
society, the foremost role of student is to
gather knowledge and wisdom and
must not waste his/her precious time
carelessly. He must submit himself to the
rules of discipline to build a civilized
society. They must realize their roles and
duties towards a cultured society. They
must develop habits of self-reliance and
try not to use unfair means in every
aspect. A student can understand and
help common people to understand their
rights. He is expected to be well
informed as well as balanced in his
views. He must know that he is prepared
to offer his co-operation and services for
the well being of the society. As he is
conscious of right and wrong, good and
bad; he will not follow another man
dictates blindly. Student must contribute
himself for improvement, judge and act
for a civilized society. They may stand for
the strength of will, truthfulness, high
sense of duty and honor, spirit of service
and sacrifice. A student must know his
talent and utilize it in a right manner.
Material consideration and getting fame
should not move him from the right
path.

So far, i have realised that students don't understand they are an entity. Think of all the financial investment that parents have made on this brand; student. There is value in our collective studenship. The value that we have is being an entity; a body. But we cannot reap the benefits of studentship unless we organise ourselves. We have to recognise our presence,first; then know our rights and privileges; last, understand our responsibilities and the roles we have to play in society.

There is no value outside, in society. If we are going out of school, it is up to us to create opportunities. Students have a notion, that is: they think there is jobs outside waiting. There is no such thing, and, in the end, a fraction of graduates set up internet cafe service, another small fraction start a tutorial service, another fraction open some business, and the least intelligent ones settle for a retail store. In addition, even in those, these graduates cannot understand the value of their individual brands. There is value in studentship, citizenship etc., and their benefits is enough to cater for a people's daily needs. Nobody just drops from the sky. Everybody belongs somewhere. Now a brand have to realise their objective, responsibilities and good; and manage that service(s) for their subsistence.

Everyday we scream change, but one person alone cannot start a revolution. We have to begin to realise our social services, align our interests, and, thereby, form an entity. We have to act as a brand, an official social entity, with some social value, structure, and office. And we begin to influence state matters and we will see what government that can take us for granted. They might kill a man but they cannot kill an entity, a company, a body, etc.

Now, with the above, i think a person should get on the same page with me. That understanding should get a person to where i'm at.
Studentship: i want to work on this as a student. And there are questions:
what are the social duties and responsibilities of the student?

What are the social services of the student? Note that the student is not a person, it is a body, a social unit; and this unit is part of the Nigerian society-- whether students realise it or not-- and therefore it has responsibilities, it provides some services, and these make up value; all the value that we need for subsistence. Now we have to recognise this brand, give it a presence, structure;complexity and manpower; us, so that it will function.

In simple english, i'm trying to translate being a student as work. We make our livelihood from the value that we possess; social services that we render. It is not insanity and i'll need plenty of help.

Finally, there is no value in the world; it's in you.
