na2day?:

hmmm, so ppl cant do a little research b4 posting erroneous doctrines on threads right? the reason i dont post in th auto section is bcuz i dont know jack shit about cars and i am not going there to argue blindly, if my car has a problem i head for the mechanics, if i dont believe what they say the problem is, i seek a second opinion but i dont argue over a topic like cars when i dont know and certainly wont post stuff that is totally false just for the sake of posting. ppl read this stuff and a lot of them believe the crap and guess who suffers the consequence, me and all the other techs that the ignorance will make their job a lot harder bcuz sum1 read somewhere post some mis-leading information. if u dont know plz google, if u r not sure ask questions dont post faslehood period!

still doesn't make any difference. what you think you know about a particular subject might be so outdated
as to be dangerous to those totally ignorant about it.

well mannyforlife, im only expressing my opinions, actually google chrome OS is not yet out so whatever we say is based on speculations. well you said you stay in the US and bla bla bla, um tht there would be little worry concerning privacy, well just type in google 'cloud computing' and you will see that a lot of issues will be about privacy. As for google ads popping out and the icons changing, check this link out, might be helpful http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=8677 . like i said everything is based on speculation and then you are wrong if you say that in the U.S there are little privacy issues. do a little bit of research on 'big brother computers' etc. you might discover a lot. Since cloud computing will be the theme of most netbooks i just hope that the security provided will be super with a lot of spyware and phishing tools out there. well that said your input on this matter is highly welcome as i said earlier constructive criticism is welcome since this is a forum and one person cant know everything.

Well if you say that it is not yet out and is based on speculations, then so be it. I f you "CLEARLY" read my post, I was addressing the issue of privacy in this context with respect to your comment. Please read my comment again

manny4life:

Third, you mentioned about privacy, I don't know the world you live in but in the U.S., no organization has access to your computer files without prior authorization even as big as Microsoft is, they will ask for your permission to gather information and that is one that deals related to the computers efficiency like computer crash reports, virus attacks and so on and not your personal files. In that case, I strongly disagree with you.

I never said that the U.S. never had privacy issues, neither did I say one shouldn't be worried about it, we were talking about "organisations obtaining information" therefore I like to correct you on that ground.

With respect to sites you referenced, I be more careful and use trustworthy, validated sites and not ones that view biased opinions. Should I decide to do a research with regards to this topic; computing and information privacy, I think I would visit sites such as U.S. Dept of Justice, office of information and privacy, they have quite a good number of articles, notes and tons of information on computer privacy and cyber crimes etc.

Again you talking about phishing which you never mentioned, and I thought that you were talking about organizations obtaining information  anyway, phishing is a cyber crime, and yes they have tools out there to prevent them. If my memory serves me correctly, the Obama administration is working on a bill to give the White House more oversight on computer privacy issues.

I like to be clear again, privacy has a broad view and it depends on what context you looking at. In all, I said organizations don't obtain information except they get prior authorization with the exemption of certain organizations protected under the U.S. Patriotic Act.

cloud computing is nothing new, i happen to have used it as a security technology through one of the AMD's freeware and still use it in various forms in my daily life. there are tones of ways we all probably have already been involved in this technology, i have lots of my daily files on google docs and use them on the fly, Apple computers offers MobileMe(for old mac users, it is the same as .mac) , google is only taking it further by making most of the processes on various high powered servers while the end user use minimal resources on their end making it cheap to have. security will always be an issue, read  ur user agreement on ur xp home os b4 clicking "i accept" and u will be surprised (in one of my projects, i wrote "made by man, will be destroyed by man). guys, there are tons of links out there on google's os, read 4 urself and separate the facts from the myths.  a few of these links can be educational

good for you na2day, i think uve started thinking the right way.  wink and of course cloud computing is an old concept and has been in the minds of a lot of people for a while but its implementation on a larger scale as it is been done currently gives me cause for concern.
of course what is built by man can always be destroyed by man and when it comes to computers, all it takes is a mind more intelligent than the other. there will always be room for loops, bugs and overrides.
im a religious guy so my comments will be biased. i am not too comfortable with the idea of placing a chunk of my docs personal or impersonal in the server of somebody such that i lie mostly when asked to fill in personal info on loads of sites but although wiv the current trend there is no escaping it. but that is a fear that will be better expressed in the religious section.
manny4life its is amazing how you trust the u.s government and the image they present to you.

i now know where your problem comes from. picking on other peoples comments rather than opening your mind to see the big picture. the total sum is called narrow mindedness and huge egotism.

manny4life its is amazing how you trust the u.s government and the image they present to you.

That would depend on what you define as "TRUST". Although I never said I trusted them, however, I trust the U.S. Govt and the Obama administration in doing their jobs in protecting rights of american citizens on Computing and Information Privacy. After all I wouldn't say I trust them when in fact its the same U.S. Govt under Bush Administration that signed into law U.S. Patriotic Act giving excessive power to federal intelligence and law enforcement agencies to act much more than their scope of duty. I would not trust them when certain activities violates my constitutional rights, well anyway I'm not here to talk about law or government, however in the scope of what I talked about; IT organizations obtaining personal files and information without prior authorization, I might be naive, but I know private or public organizations don't do that, and this is with the exemption of not all but certain federal agencies and organizations.

Need I correct one thing, I don't know of what image you talk about, anyway, they don't present any image be it positive or negative.
