The Benue government says it will convert some junior secondary schools to vocational institutions to enhance skills acquisition among youths.

Mr Philip Tachin, Executive Chairman, Benue Universal Basic Education Board, who announced this on Thursday in Makurdi, said that the conversion would take off by the next academic session.

“We have already engaged young graduates and experienced hands to handle the training of those to be admitted into the skills acquisition institutions,” Tachin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He named some of the schools to be converted to include the two Federal Government Girls’ Junior Secondary Schools at Gbatse and Gbajimba, in Ushongo and Guma Local Government Areas.

“The two schools will be converted to Universal Basic Education Vocational Junior Secondary Schools,” he said.

According to him, the two schools were built by the Federal Government and handed over to the Benue Government.

He said that government would continue to explore avenues through which children would be taught regular subjects alongside vocational skills to enable them acquire some expertise that would make them self-employed.

“We want to ensure that students not lucky to progress further will not be disadvantaged,” he said.

Has Ortom paid the salaries and pensions owed for several months and years to the people who already worked?
He should do that instead of this senseless headline-grabbing news that is empty.

In 2017, a digital age, this is what they consider the best option?

Unfortunately, it seems that he has a state full of even more incompetent fools. Otherwise they should have protested and petitioned their lawmakers to impeach his silly ass.

It is a good idea...really.

Fact is, we need more technically minded people in this country. A white collar job is not the be all that ends all.

Good one from the Benue Government.

What's stopping them from building new centres when the schools they have is not enough already.

Because the people that make the digital age possible ...that make it work ......are those who underwent vocational and technical education....

It is the technicians who keep the power going, who build and repair your it stuff, etc that keep the digital age going.
