Nobody said anything about negative marking. that is insane angry angry.

The exams is very hard anyway so Why should they penalize someone for getting a question wrong. it makes no sense to me. angry angry angry

Those who passed were also subjected to this same rule.

Syenite:

LOOK AT THIS COMPARISON

My generation                                               Today
-1) We watched TV only from 5pm daily       They watch TV 24hrs no thanks to private stations,DSTV and co
-2) We spent 0 time on the internet            They spend hours on the internet
-3) We never watched Live premiership      They spend hours on sat, sun and mon watching Premiership games
    games
-4) We never watched Champions/              They spend hours on tue, wed and thu watching Champions/Europa
     Europa League games                            league games
-5) GSM: We never made mid-night calls     After watching TV for hours of the day they make mid-night call for hours
-6) We were more creative with toys           They never make their own toys instead it's computer games
     that develop the brain.
-7)The average age for a WAEC candidate   The average age for WAEC candidate is 15yrs(immaturity)
    18yrs(maturity)

PUTTING POINTS 1 TO 6 TOGETHER IT'S OBVIOUSE THAT WE HAD MORE TIME FOR OUR BOOKS IN MY GENERATION.
YOU YOUTH'S OF TODAY SHOULD LEARN TO READ YOUR BOOKS. THAT IS THE WAY OUT OF YOUR FAILURES!!!! angry angry angry angry angry

Thank you my brother, i remembered making toy cars, gun and using clay to mold chairs, tables and animals. You will only watch tv after doing your home work or house duties.

jamb hmmm!lets not blame the student, the problem is from d top, imagine d presidency how messed up it is.back 2 education as a whole ministry of education is based on man-no-man,down 2 jamb they dont really care about d students dat is writing d exams infact they are happy about d high populatn.why wont they fail when d chairman has 20 relatives dat must pass,d cordinators,b4 u no 250thou people in 500thou are sure 2 get admited.na wao!!!
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by estadypes(f): 10:15pm On Mar 30, 2010
jambites shouldn't av dat mindset dat jamb is hard, jamb isn't hard, i guess d problem is jus d markin scheme nd d way they score students, apart from dat, ur choice of universities also matas, i av written two exams nd i failed none, but still yet to gain admission. i rememba wen i was in secondary skul during exams period, if 85% of dem pupils fail a particular subject they eida call d teacher to book or they change him, d best thing for dem to do bout jamb is to scrap it, in jamb, no b d person wey kno book dey pass, na person wey kno im way dey pass same goes for admission processin, the individual uni shuld jus sell application forms nd den conduct entrance examinations or interviews, den u'l b liable to get application forms for diffferent skul, at least u'l be accepted in one
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by Feraz(m): 10:54pm On Mar 30, 2010
1. Fear Factor: this has made many fail jamb.
2. don't know what to name it: how would one feel when he burned his midnight candle and a friend of his went d apian way? Results are out and he realises he did not make it but d friend made it.
Some students are to blame too.
Another factor is the rot in d educational system.
There's this saying that goes thus: "who read, na im know book, who pass, na im b scholar so follow person wee know road"

"Why do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams?"

Do students from other countries write JAMB?
Your question assumes  Nigerian Students, in particular, have a very high failure rate at JAMB, compared to Students from other countries?
Probably not what you mean.
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by Rastamann: 12:08am On Mar 31, 2010
The reasons are many. Students no more study, they look for easy way out (cheating); JAMB wants to make more money so they structure the exam in a way the looks difficult for the unserious students; Parents also encourage their wards to cheat by trying to buy exam questions and use machineries thereby encouraging laziness on the part of their wards. Finally, some of the teachers are not supposed to be in the classrooms because many of they do not even understand what they are teaching the students (most of them (the teachers) will even fail JAMB if they sit for it).

Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by otesy: 8:25am On Mar 31, 2010
@ all, how many of those who took JAMB from 1995 to date and passed it can actually say truthfully that they took the exam sincerely? Let's be truthful to ourselves, how many of you did not use Expo, did not see the questions before the exam, did not ask questions from fellow students during the exam, did not spy from a fellow students work, did not use phones(after phone came out) or have other people write the exams on their behalf? If you did any of these then you didn't pass JAMB truthfully so let's stop deceiving ourselves with the "I passed" when you had to cheat to pass. The sooner we see the truthful picture of things and stop deceiving ourselves with unduly hard questions that only the people who cheat can pass, we'll continue to have students in the Universities who have no business being there and all the honest and intelligent students will find their way to Ghanaian Universities where they'll be very much welcome, To the handful of you who sincerely passed without cheating, kudos to you,

Black_Revo:

Secondary school student and those preparing for JAMB do not have to work since their parents are catering for them at the moment.

Every one ain't opportuned to have parents who carter for them like you, sweetheart. You need to travel round Naija and see what I'm talking about. . .the will is there to pass the exams but the time for preparation is TINY.

agabaI23:

yahoo yahoo is now work? Man you dey fall my hand.

Lol, I just added that for fun. I actually meant other works too. . .students work to help their parents, and have little time to prepare for the exams.

Besides, the markers of this exam are not to be trusted~!

B/cos they don't read their books and we parents are not helping matters.
When parents wld promise their child that they wld do anything to help them get admission.
some pay pple to write exam for their kids or even pay invigilators to look the other way when their ward is cheating.

Pathetic uuhh

Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by slyk2(m): 1:44pm On Mar 31, 2010
how can they pass when they go to classes with i-pods?

they will continue to fail until parents will understand that schools can not handle all it takes to train a child.

Parents never have time for them, they will keep spending their money.

Hmmm!!! Good question but can't seem to find an answer to it. Who knows, Nigeria syndrome. Come to think of it, most Nigerian students don't study like they should, rather they depend on "expo". Methinks thats one reason WE fail JAMB, becos i also failed JAMB. grin grin grin wink wink wink tongue tongue tongue

As long as students no won read nw so dem go dey fail jamb always
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by demmy2sure: 2:11pm On Apr 01, 2010
people saying the students failing Jamb are not serious or don't read are very wrong because most of the people passing Jamb now is by cheating, you will hardly see 10% pass without cheating , and I will advise you people that want to write Jamb to follow the cheating way and get what you have to do done at once cos whoever doesn't know how his/her mates make it will not get to where his/her mates are on time. All these problems is our leaders and neither me or you can solve the problem, and the other problem we have is that we are over-civilized so lets take it the way it is and follow fast way.i hope you dey feel me , just to ginger your swagger lol

Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by cooltobex(m): 12:36pm On Apr 02, 2010
i think the problem with students failing JAMB is too broad AND complicated to mention.
few of the reasons are:
1.  laziness of some students to study but rather relying on prepared answers. tongue
2.  shortage of universities in this country is also a part of the problem.
4.  inept teachers, markers, examiners, parents who do not pay positive attention to their kids' educational life instead they register with special centers where they will be given prepared answers before or during the exam process.
this do not apply to JAMB alone but to all other external exams. LET"S HAVE A RETHINK FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THIS POTENTIALLY GREAT NATION. cry students should ashamed of this recent development angry
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by Nobody: 6:07pm On Apr 02, 2010
Since when did JAMB become a pass or fail exam? Actually the exam is structured in such a way that onlly a small fraction of students would be able to attain  excellent scores. The exams are purposely fashioned to be challenging.

This is because of the huge disparity between the number of candidates and available public universities. Demand far exceeds supply. Hence the board can afford to be very strict in their marking schemes, set tough questions and yet still have enough candidates that would be able meet the requirements of the universities.

It cannot be used as a yardstick to evaluate the standard of education in the country in general. There are lots of candidates that perform poorly in JAMB yet do very well in exams such as GRE, SATS and A levels
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by einstein1: 11:14am On Apr 05, 2010
Many Jamb candidates believe in "runs" and this has made it impossible for them to put in enough effort in preparation for the "almighty jamb exam"
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by esolution4: 7:04pm On Apr 07, 2010
students are failing jamb exams because they seem to be less focused on their studies.
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by smarttkid(m): 2:38pm On Apr 12, 2010
Thanks all. I hope the JAMB/UTME exams candidates will learn from the posts and make amendments. Wish you all the best in your exams come Saturday
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by nazzyluv(f): 8:28pm On Jul 13, 2011
jamb dosen't mark correctly,,reason last year two my pal were sent answers in an exam hall and they wrote the same thing but one had 217 and the other had 238 why?, ok this year two friends wrote same thing ina hall the only difference was one question they disaggreased upon son dat ws there only differnce but one got 283 and the other 265what a gap therefore jamb is the cause of the failures
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by Darwine(m): 9:21pm On Jul 13, 2011
Why so much emphasis on "failing"? What of positive part of it? Turn the question around and ask also why people pass jamb?
Re: Why Do Nigerian Students Fail Jamb Exams? by agabaI23(m): 8:03pm On Aug 06, 2011
@poster
Jamb was never meant to be an easy exam.
It was designed to get the best into the Uni. so JAMB has always been difficult and failure high even when students were not as lazy as they are now and runs avenue a lot less than we have now even in NL
