What is going on in this state, The National Assembly yesterday demanded an immediate reinstatement of

the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Friday Aderemi, as the acting governor until May 29 when he

would hand over to the Governor-elect, Kayode Oni. The same national assembly nullify the speaker when

he was elevated to the governor and approved Olurin, not they want Olurin out and bring the speaker back

for just 1 month?

Both the Senate and the House were unanimous in their rejection of the President’s demand to extend emergency rule in the state beyond the gazetted May 18, 2007.

They were unanimous in asking that the emergency tenure of the Administrator, Brig-General Adetunji Olurin (rtd), should terminate immediately.

In the House, the lawmakers who resumed from the election recess were set to debate the request to endorse the state of emergency recently declared in the state by President Olusegun Obasanjo, but were halted mid-way by the Speaker, Aminu Bello Masari, who told them that the request was dead on arrival.

He told his colleagues that rather than extend the state of emergency which has been in place for the past six months, the Speaker of the State Assembly who was sworn in immediately after the impeachment of the erstwhile Governor, Ayo Fayose and his deputy, should be reinstated.

The Ekiti State emergency rule controversy took  a  complicated twist yesterday when the Federal Government declared that the Sole Administrator, Brigadier General Adetunji Olurin (rtd), would remain in office pending a contrary directive from President Olusegun Obasanjo to hand over the administration.
Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minis-ter, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN) and the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Florence Ita Giwa, gave the Federal Government's stand in separate pronouncements in Abuja as tension and uncertainty hang over Ekiti state

This is another display of power abuse by OBJ disregard for the legislative again You pro OBJ guys what can you say about this.
Re: Ekiti Palava by McKren(m): 11:52am On Apr 27, 2007
The Nigerian media and its people are looking for every excuse to abuse OBJ.

Are u suggesting that Olurin should vacate office based on National Assembly proceedings and Newspaper reports. ?
This is the beauty of democracy, separation of powers is not uni-directional. Both arms of the Government must respect the powers of the other within the confines of the law. Olurin is not an employee of National Assembly or an elected official, he is a Government appointee. While NASS have all the write in the world not to ratify his extension in office thereby making his continues stay in office questionable they simply have no powers to either sack or appoint a Government official.

Olurin as a sole administrator reports only to the Presidency and has to wait for necessary communication from the Presidency in other to vacate office. Presidency on the other hand will not ask Olurin to vacate office because Punch or Vanguard reported that NASS did not ratify Olurin's tenure extension, a memo from the NASS informing them on this development is even yet to reach the Presidency and people begin to jump into conclusion that OBJ has no respect for rule of law.

People should stop bullying the President, Go and even read in details of the proceedings of NASS. In the senate about 40 voted for extension while 18 voted no extension. about 20 were absent and 3 dead people not replaced yet and the Senate President did not vote at all. They now concluded that they do not have the necessary 2/3 majority to ratify the extension.
In the house of representative they simply concluded that they don't have enough people on sit to form a qourum and thus did not vote at all.
The question is both houses are claiming not enough numbers to form a qourum to ratify the extension but they have enough qourum to make a definitive statement that Olurin should be replaced with Speaker of state house of assembly.

The truth is, they have every right to like or dislike the President but people must learn to separate emotions from their duties. Olurin has barely 30days to quit why all the drama. However if they want drama they have to follow dues process, they can not sack Olurin on the pages of newspaper.

Re: Ekiti Palava by Mamajama(m): 1:51pm On Apr 27, 2007
McKren pls tell them. its senseless to try and replace Olurin when he has less than a month left to oversee the state Even a blind man will see it makes no sense to kick the guy that has been there for 6 Months out and have the chief judge of the state take over. this is why the national assemble is a shame.
Re: Ekiti Palava by dayokanu(m): 8:03pm On Apr 27, 2007
@ Mamajama,
Your ignorance knows no bounds!! Ah AH
If you are not fit to rule the lenght of time does not come into it. can you just put anybody into power?  If on May 24 the legislative arm or Judiciary decides any governor or president is not fit to rule he can be removed and we can have another one for 2 days.
Re: Ekiti Palava by Mamajama(m): 8:25pm On Apr 27, 2007
dayokanu DUDE what are you trying to say? please express your views like an educated Elite. What do you know about what is going on in EKITI? this same people NASA approved OLURIN and reject the chief judge when he declared himself the state governor 6 months ago, and Now they want him to take over for a month? EVEN RAY Charles can see and think better than you. Continuity is what they need in EKITI, there is a new sheriff in town and who will arrest Olurin?
