That is a WEST AFRICAN GREEN MAMBA, it is highly venomous, they spend most of their times in tress but sometimes they come down to hunt prey.
Doubt green or any kind of mamba are indigenous to Nigeria.
Likely bush snake, harmless but scary all the same

I have encountered this specie in Kogi years back. It pursued me, my brother and Dad from our farm. If it is sunny, don't go near this specie anyday. Very aggressive.
Snakes are not lizards, but don't wait untill you discover if or not they're venomous. I

I hope you know that green mambas do exist. And their venom is classified as one of the deadliest in the world.

Ironically, green mambas can be found in West Africa. (Nigeria inclusive) So when next you come across a green snake, if you're not confident enough to kill it, run for your life.

My eyes on any snake around my
vicinity!
I defend myself by sending life out of it before asking questions later if it is venomous or not.

It is not a green manba but a green rat snake. It is not venomous. Stop deceiving people online. If you don't have knowledge about something, it is better read and pass on.

That is NOT the green mamba…that’s a green bush snake! I once caught one in our lawn and even handled it…it’s not venomous one bit.

Not true, that's not a Green mamba, that's a spotted bush snake and they aren't venomous.
I didn’t even see this before making my comment. That snake is very common here and completely harmless unless you’re a lizard or frog.

Uncle lala, one of your favorite pet has strayed into my compound

I was on my way back home from work around 6pm yesterday when my wife called that she sighted a snake inside our compound. I advise her to get someone to do justice to it.

She went outside to call a male next house neighbor, but the snake has vanished before they return back and the person left.

I search the whole compound when I returned home but couldn't find uncle lala's pet.

I went for a thorough search this morning few mins pass 10am and found the snake where it was hiding.

I quickly reach out for a long plank to unlive the green color slithering animal & justice was done.

Can someone help identify the specie.......thou it look more like a baby green mamba if I am not mistaken.
The snake is a species in the family Colubridae of the genus Philothalmus with 24 species.
They are non-venomous and completely harmless to humans.

Not venomous, na ordinary green snake. Next time, just find food give am chop and send am back to the forests. You could also have kept it as pet to help keep your house free of rats. Take my advice at your own peril.
