It still feels like yesterday when my boyfriend and I had just been six months together. We got into our first big argument that left us both feeling hurt. Guess what?

We were arguing over a trivial matter, but our emotions got the best of us, and things quickly escalated. Before I knew it, we were yelling and throwing around hurtful words.

The worst part was that I didn't feel like he was hearing me. No matter how much I tried to explain my side of things, he just wasn't getting it. And I could tell that he was feeling the same way.

Looking back, I realized that the problem wasn't the argument itself but rather our poor communication skills.

We had never communicated our expectations from each other, and this brought about incessant conflicts.

So, one day, we decided to sit down and have a serious talk about our communication styles. We acknowledged our flaws and made an effort to not only listen to each other without becoming defensive or attacking each other's character but to also share how we want to be loved respectively.

"A relationship without communication is just two people."

"Two things that can destroy any relationship are Unrealistic Expectations and Poor Communication."

These were quotes I stumbled upon on Pinterest.

TONY GASKINS also wrote, "Communication to a Relationship is like Oxygen to Life, Without it, It Dies."
