One hundred and eighteen students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, from various departments graduated with First Class honours during the 2011 convocation ceremony with the two-day conferment ceremony which began a day before yesterday. 2days ago, 3,224 from the Faculties of Arts, Education, Environmental Sciences, Sciences, Social Sciences and the Distance Learning Institute, who have successfully completed their studies, were admitted into their various diplomas, certificates and degrees.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Sofoluwe, who represented the university’s Chancellor, Alhaji (Dr.) Aliyu Obaje, the Ata- Gala of Igala Land, Kogi State, advised the graduates to make good use of their degrees for the development of the nation and the World at large. Prof Sofoluwe, who announced recent awards, scholarships and sponsorships won by the university from individuals and organisations both local and international, thanked all contributors to the success recorded by his administration. The VC was proud to welcome members of the university’s Governing Council, which has just been reinstated by the Federal Government as part of the resolutions of the last FG/ ASUU crisis. The university, however, told the graduates that their certificates are ready for collection.

Hahahahaha am back again, later on some kids from a kerosene background who do nothing but hate and complain about those who their parents worked extra hard to send their children to private Universities like Covenant University, Shouting and Barking like Dog's that Covenant University Standard is low because they produced 85 First class graduates which 1 kan worse pass?.

What does this translate into in terms of percentage who got 1st class?

What is the average JAMB score of those who got into Unilag versus Covenant?

Without these two pieces of information, hard to make comparisons.

4% of the graduating class of Unilag had 1st class. what was the percentage of those that had first class in Covenant? I'm not averse to people getting good grades but I just think your comparison is skewed if you do not introduce the concept of percentages.

In Nigeria, no body cares any longer. It's  not like before that you'll be given preferential treatment because you're an OAU, UI or UNN graduate. Now, everybody is equall. Even if you graduated from Ijebu metropolitan university. University is University. However, when it comes to research work, i'll give it to the old generation schools(UNN, OAU, UI, ABU) but when it comes to quality but not comprehensive learning, private universities like Covenat take the cake.

The number of first class students produces by a school does not mean anything. Especially in Nigeria where we know what some of our students do to come out with first with a last-class vocabulary.

Simple question:

if i have money - covenant is better!
if i don't have money - unilag is better

Either way, whichever gives me the job is better

Btw, i'm not beefing Unilag. Why should i when almost all my siblings attended the school. I just think there are more "party smart" people their than there are "book smart".
