Beware Of False Prophets – Part 2
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
10 April 2022 | 3:55 am

The true motive or intention of false prophets is hardly discerned. They come in "sheep's clothing," but in reality, they are "ravening wolves."

They are very deceptive, and those who are running after signs and wonders easily fall into their deceptive plots. False prophets take advantage of people’s need of healing, deliverance, jobs, children and money; and give undue emphasis to such needs in their preaching. "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; in so much that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect" (Matthew 24:24).

John, the Apostle of love, motivated by love, warned the believers concerning false prophets: "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist," 2 John verse 7. Without equivocation, he warns "If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed," 2John verse 10.

Part of the deception of false prophets is to twist the word of God to confuse the children of God. By their lies and deception, they encourage the unrighteous; those not living right and discourage the righteous. Believers who are living peaceful, joyful and happy lives are made sad by their negative prophecies. "Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked that he should not return from his wicked way by promising him life," Ezekiel 13:22. The dreams, visions and prophecies of false prophets are mere divinations of their own minds.

What are the punishments or chastisements reserved for the deceivers? There is damnation for the false prophets and those who follow them. "Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire," Matthew 7:19. On the last day, many who lay claim to have used the name of the Lord to prophesy, cast out devils and perform many wonderful works would be utterly disappointed. The ringing condemnation will be: "… I never knew you: depart from me ye that work iniquity."

Those who forsake the truth they once believed and now defend error and lie, may eventually be given up by God. They will be allowed to be under "strong delusion that they should believe a lie" and will be given "over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient."

Balaam, a prophet in the Old Testament once knew the Lord, but covetousness came into his heart. He spurned the warning of God and eventually died a deceiver and a false prophet. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36).

Readiness For Christ's Coming – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
17 April 2022 | 2:41 am

If ever there is a better time to call people to make intent preparation for heaven, it is on a day like this when the whole world, especially the church of Jesus Christ, is celebrating Easter.

Easter marks the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. He laid the foundation of Christianity for all times. It is a celebration that brings hope to all men, assuring all those who are willing that the price for their redemption and reconciliation with God, the only sacrifice acceptable to God to wash away the sins of mankind, has been accomplished. All, therefore, can come and receive forgiveness, pardon and cleansing of their sins, and get ready for the return of the Lord.

The coming of the Lord is imminent and believers are admonished to be ready. The world is full of darkness and unrighteousness. But when one receives the gospel, he is transformed. Grace teaches, trains and transforms him to be righteous, sober and godly in this present world. When grace comes to us, the past is forgotten, forgiven and changed, and the present is renewed. Grace also prepares us for the future.

Many of the initial recipients of the grace of God did not see Christ physically. Thus, they eagerly look forward to seeing and meeting Him eventually in heaven. They are now, "looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."

The second coming of the Lord had been prophesied in the Old Testament. Jesus Christ spoke about it. He said: "I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself," John 14:2,3. This event is called the rapture of saints.

Jesus also spoke of the Great Tribulation – a period of unprecedented suffering on earth for sinners and backsliders who fail to go with the Lord at the rapture. Meanwhile, the Marriage Supper of the Lamb will be going on in heaven during the Great Tribulation. After this period, Christ will come again with the saints to reign for 1,000 years on earth. Since the rapture will be unannounced, the Lord calls on all believers to get ready.

Those who are not born again and sanctified are not ready for His coming. No one can predict the date, or time of year when the Lord will come. "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh." If there were no possibilities of anyone missing the rapture, there would have been no need for the warning or command to get ready. To see the Lord when He comes, we must remain "pure in heart" (Matthew 5:8), maintain "clean hands, and … not (lift) up (our) soul unto vanity," Psalm 24:4. We should also declare the Word that saves us from ruin and eternal judgment, and we should prepare people for the coming of the Lord.

Believers are not saved and transformed to remain here on earth forever. The purpose is to prepare them for the coming of the Lord. We need to get ready, desire and look for that blessed appearance of our Lord. It is natural for a bride to desire strongly for the return of her bridegroom, who had gone on a long journey. Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, is the bridegroom. The Church is the bride waiting for the coming of the bridegroom.

In a family, the wife keeps herself pure while waiting for her husband and prepares in every way necessary for his return. Christ is coming for the purchased, purified bride. Although, we are here on earth, "our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." Sadly, not everyone looks forward to Christ's return to take His people home. Some are so busy with businesses and the things of the world that they do not long for the coming of the Lord even though they are religious. But "unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time."

Readiness For Christ's Coming – Part 2
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
24 April 2022 | 2:42 am

Christ's reference to mass spiritual decline before His return is timely and instructive.

Before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot and his family had the opportunity to escape for their lives with the strict instruction: "Look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed."

However, Lot and his family did not fully comply. "But his wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt." We must not try to adjust the word of God. Delay is dangerous, lingering is costly and looking back is damnable.

A little deviation from or modification of what we have learnt brings damnation, doom and destruction. Lot’s wife looked back and missed paradise and also caused problems for her daughters. The foolish virgins delayed and missed heaven. Salvation is necessary; to delay to be saved is damnable and punishable. Restitution is essential; to postpone it, is dangerous and damnable. Sanctification is required and holiness is indispensable.

Many people do not have the time to pray for the strength and power to be spiritual or prepare their souls for heaven. They do not have the time to serve the Lord through evangelism. They give all their time and strength to amassing wealth. We should be wise and not be buried in the activities of the world such that we fail to remember the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

To be ready for the Lord's return, those who have gone away from God’s service should return immediately. "And Jesus said unto him, no man, having put his hand to the plough and looks back, is fit for the kingdom of God." We are admonished to “remember Lot’s wife” when we are faced with the temptation to compromise our Christian stand in our celebrations, examinations, businesses and marriages. "Looking diligently lest any man fails of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up troubles you, and thereby many be defiled." As we await the coming of the Lord, we should not rest in idleness, but be devoted to His service. Our expectation is not idle nor a crowded life of earthly engagements. It is a life of daily seeking of the lost and bringing sinners to repentance and faith in Christ; feeding converts and babes in Christ with the milk of the word; strengthening weak believers to be strong in faith, grace, the word of God and in their convictions; reaching out to backsliders and helping them to get restored to their first love; exhorting Christians to holiness; spending our time, talent and treasure to build for and with Christ; and labouring to prepare as many souls as possible for Christ's return.

As the Thessalonian believers waited for the coming of the Lord, they also worked “to seek and to save that which was lost.” Those who are involved in evangelism and any other service in the house of God should heed to Christ's instruction to "occupy" until He comes. As we go about our activities, Christ’s question is: "lovest thou me more than these?"

We should show our love to God by doing the work He has committed into our hands. The early Church understood the certainty of Christ’s return and did everything possible to reach sinners with the gospel. “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” We should give our hearts, time, talents and skill to reach out to souls as we await the coming of the Lord.

A New Commandment For Believers – Part 1
By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi
01 May 2022 | 3:31 am

John the beloved was inspired to write to the church about a new commandment, which he and other apostles had "heard from the beginning." The new commandment to all believers was to “love one another” and to love God with all their hearts, souls and minds. This is also captured in other gospels. Apostle John clarified that this commandment is not altogether new because it had been given by God right from the beginning.

Conversion to Christ affords the believer the privilege to hear this new commandment and have a new comprehension of it. This results in a new life, covenant, attitude, spirit, disposition and heart "because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth."

The old man, carnal-minded, dead spirit and uncircumcised heart cannot understand, fulfil or obey the new commandment. We need a new experience, heart, spirit, faith, self-forgetfulness, vision and focus to truly understand and obey it. The self-centred man cannot fulfil the new commandment until the darkness of ignorance and Satan’s nature are taken away from his heart.

Everyone who has experienced God’s grace and salvation is expected to love one another as Christ loved us. When we are born again, the Holy Spirit bears witness in our hearts that we are now God’s children. As the Spirit of love, He becomes more prominent in our lives when we are sanctified. And when we are baptised in the Holy Ghost, He sheds “the love of God … abroad in our hearts…"

The new covenant is rooted in divine love. The veil of the old covenant and hardness of heart associated with it have been removed by Christ’s death. He came to demonstrate the perfect love of God as a pattern for all to follow. Jesus said: "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you."

Under the new covenant, God implants Christ’s love in our hearts, so, it can be expressed through our lives. With His love in our hearts, we keep the law of love, think the thought of love, speak the language of love, offer the sacrifices of love, and commit ourselves only to actions of love. True believers live under the new covenant and obey the new commandment. Others may contradict, oppose and forget the law of love, but as believers, we must obey it.

Christ's commandment to love others as He has loved us cannot be practised by people who are destitute of God's grace. Judas could not practise it because he was self-centred, unrighteous, incorrigible and had superfluity of naughtiness in him. Transformation by grace makes believers to be “likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord and of one mind." We are required to do nothing through strife or vainglory, but esteem others better than ourselves and help others to succeed and be happy.

Where there is love, we will not deliberately hurt others with words. Rather we will always "be kindly affectioned one to another, in honour preferring one another." We must speak the language of love. The best we can do for others is to love them — desire their salvation, security, sincerity, steadfastness and sanctification. God expects all believers to walk and live by this new commandment.
