According to FIFA official website, “The best FIFA awards is an award that annually honour the most outstanding members of the world’s most popular sport”. In order words it is an INDIVIDUAL AWARD that honours the most outstanding players in football in general, not the winner of a national team trophy.

Now ask yourself who were the outstanding players in men football in 2021. Ask yourself if Messi was simply outstanding to be guaranteed a place in the top 3. Lewandoski was, Salah was but Messi’s case is arguable and that’s why I said I am not sure if he deserves to be among the top 3
