Expect major supply chain disruptions and massive price hikes in everything from food to power. This is what happens when we refuse to fix our refineries out of greed, corruption, and poor leadership. Nigerians, I pity us.

Subsidising fuel means refineries cannot make enough profit to be fixed.

When government sets the price below the cost of producing one liter of fuel...and has done so for decades...despite being adviced to remove subsides...because 'Poverty'....you get bad refineries.

When refineries are not making a profit, we end up with NNPC running on government subventions, which get paid , bad or good performance....which provides opportunity for looting and corruption.

The same corruption does not happen in the GSM sector. They are private run...meaning they work for every money they get, and get no subvention from government...meaning they can make profit enough to build and maintain infrastructure.

Subsidy should have gone since 1993. By now, we would have had high fuel prices, yes, but also we won't be importing fuel.

Price of diesel pushing as high as 1500/litre

LPG cooking gas is pushing 910/kg

Kerosene is closely following at 800/liter

Electricity collapsed to as low as 9MW in a country of over 200m population

Naira-Dollar exchange rate already hitting the ceiling at N640/$1 with most local manufacturers struggling to remain in business

Security of lives and properties is a no go area as it's not existing

Pray tell, how else can a country be cursed with worthless leaders like Buhari ?

And these are the legacy's someone wants to build on if elected ?
D dullard and Daft president doesn't even care. Hahahaha

FalseProphet1:

And despite all these, Nigerians are hell bent on voting APC come 2023, even after failing woefully for 8 years.

If Peter Obi doesn't win next year's election, Nigerians would resort to begging in order to eat, I see companies closing down due high running cost, I see various governors unable to pay salaries, I see federal government establishments owing salaries as well.

This I have seen.

And how would Peter Obi change things?

Diesel prices are high because of high crude oil prices. Unless Obi wants to pay a subsidy on diesel...which means we lose more money that could have been used for other things...on subsidising diesel.

Removing subsidy is just like treating the symptoms of an ailment .

It still doesn't solve the problem because as long as we are importing the petroleum products , we would be at the mercy of importers and the exchange rate fluctuations.

We should be talking about getting the refineries repaired for good and stop this fuel importation business once and for all.

You cant be a farmer , harvest your produce , sell it cheaply to food processors and still go back and buy at an expensive cost and yet you cry that the cost of food is high.

Fix the refineries , refine locally and cut off shipping costs , haulage costs , equalization costs , storage costs , demurrage etc.

That's the only way to stop the soaring cost of fuel prices , else keep paying the high price for importation.

Please what have they done with the proceeds of the subsidy they removed??
How have they accounted for it? They will tell us they used 100 billion to feed school children from it, while ASUU needs less than 50 billion to call off the strike!
Bunch of jokers!!

ASUU actually needs trillions of naira, not billions for the universities.See the 2009 ASUU-FG agreement.

50 billion can, at most, pay for overhead costs for all the universities for some years.

100 billion cannot even feed all Nigerian children. See the tiny meals they give them kids?

Lies and propaganda. 75 percent of filling stations in nigeria hasn't closed down,no matter how high the cost of diesel is,they will still buy it to power their tanker to lift petrol.it's the consumer(s )that will always suffer, because they will factor the cost into the sales of pms by adjusting their pumps.

Well if the subsidy goes, it would then be profitable to refine fuel (and already there are at least 6 private refineries , Dangote included, under constrcution.

Plus, fixing refinieries means subsidy has to go...or we end up taking more loans to build the refineries. Which have to be paid back.....

The money we are spending on subsides, ideally, with them gone, would be made as part of the profits made ....which can then be used to maintain, upgrade and build new refineries. Government can keep the money used for subsides for other things.

School children feeding is a big SCAM bro!
And it's not evenly distributed. In fact it is not sustainable. Build better classrooms for them and give them good teachers. Majority of them feed at home biko!!

As for ASUU, the whole money they need is not at once, create a yearly budgeted sustainable payment plan and that will be taken care of.

the same government that told us that there is nothing like subsidy is the same one still paying the so called subsidy.

We need to sit down and do a proper analysis of what we are subsidizing and you'd find out that we are actually paying to enrich all these fuel importers.

How much exactly is the subsidy? we have been paying this same subsidy from the days of IBB yet we never still get sense.

There is a rot in the system that's empowering this so called subsidy payment
