Subsidy removal. Alot of people argue that it is a good thing and some others say it is not a good thing. You can do a right thing in a wrong way, or wrong timing and create more discontent among the already disillusioned many, or you can simply do the right thing in a right way and at the right time, and march in sync with the people of Nigerian. Bring development and economic relief first before subsidy removal. Instead of making the subsidy removal the first thing your administration does, why not make it one of the last things? It is the same thing. People who want to see you fail will say it is not the same thing. Bring development, economic relief and succour to the people first, then remove subsidy later. Do not let the line up of costly buildings along the streets of Abuja or Islands of Lagos deceive you. Visit the nooks and crannies of Nigeria instead! Nigerians have gone through and are going through a whole-economic-lot to put food on their tables. Go to the nooks and crannies of Nigeria to see the abject poverty that exists. Remove subsidy last and not first. Carry out orientation programmes through our airwaves and social media for some years of your administration to prepare the people's mind for the seemingly emminent (abeg, this spelling correct?) subsidy removal I am telling you the man on the street has no idea about the consequences of subsidy removal. No shock Nigerians Sir. Surprise us in a good way that Nigerian politicians are just seemingly incapable of doing. Remove subsidy last, not first. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Tradegood: Bringing development is not by wishful thinking or planning. The govt is just part of the problem. The people are the main problem. We Nigerians are very greedy. Remember when Buhari closed border to stop importing rice, so he can encourage local production. I can't remember the exact price, but local rice was always 10-20% lesser than foreign rice. But Because foreign rice became very expensive, local producers decided to increase theirs, instead of remaining at status quo. Look at POS business... is it not still the people? I know our leaders are terrible, but even if govt sets a policy, are Nigerians ready to abide? look at UK students, round tripping currency.. how would the economy grow? In the 90's or early 2000's govt launched different petrol scheme's for Commercial and Private vehicles to reduce transport cost... Private owners bought fuel from commercial owners. However I agree with your thought of not removing subsidy, I believe he should put in-place palliatives, like subsidizing Mass transits, but you see at the end of the day, its the people like the private car owners, or the rice farmers, that will determine if it will work or not. 1 Like |

Yorubas will never smell Aso rock in 2023, instead let the north continue Statement from hate filled lunatics In less than 2 months time, what they fear most will befall them, Tinubu will rule them and their papa ๐๐. May God continue to shame and destroy our enemy. God bless our president BAT (GCFR) |

wis3: I get what you are saying. But you can not just remove faulty pillars all at once from a building, the house go scatter. Resuming office, and then just removing subsidy first is surely not a step on the right direction. Why must subsidy removal be the very first agenda? It is why I loved Dora Akunyili, orientation matters. Re-orientate the people's mind first. |

tommy589: The crutch to counter the cost of living crisis would be that the government would then have enough funds to better invest in value adding industries (commercial agriculture, manufacturing, etc). its clear the cost of subsidy has grown so large its impossible for it to only be paying to lower oil costs, if only their was more transparency in government finances. |

Tradegood:We might as well just face it. The whole thing is a shame and it just always be an avenue to steal in the name of subsidy. A good example is the $800m dollars the FG is taking from the world bank which it intendseto disburse to Nigerians in the name of cushioning thetge effect of of subsidy removal. How do you determine who's eligible and who's not? At thebend of the day, there's no beneficiarie and they'll yet again, take up more loans in the name of helping the citizens. 1 Like |

If I were him, I will remove it the very first day. The is no emotional explanation that can justify burrowing to pay subsidy. He will do himself alot of de- service if he tarry on its removal. Tradegood: 2 Likes |

'Bring development first'. I'm afraid there is no 'development' that Tinubu can conjure that will bring an immediate change to the masses. The economy has been in very bad shape for 10years at least. There is no magic wand. If he waits until year 3 or 4 before removing subsidy, Nigeria's economic problems will only deteriorate further with no prospect of relief for the masses. I think there is a case for removing the subsidy in phases. 50% reduction starting immediately. 30% should follow next year, with the final 20% removed in year 3. This should give the masses time to adjust to the changes. |

Re: Dear Tinubu: On Subsidy Removal by Maazieze(m): 10:39pm On Apr 22, 2023 |
Tradegood: exactly, the subsidy should be removed over a period of 2 years, maybe more depends on financial advise, removing it all at once will produce a price shock that will be catastrophic |
