Igala (igara) did not colonize us (ezike oba) like that as many of you think. Ezike oba himself marry the daughter of attama of igara (igala) .

Before your historic nonsense, remove Ezike Oba from that your nonsense, Ezike Oba had always practiced government by elders so I don't know where you got that Igala deciding an Eze In Enugu Ezike or any other part of Ndukka

These guys are so obsessed with Igboland. First they said we do not have history before the whites came, then suddenly we have a history of colonisation.

Even Benin in the height of its power never claimed to have power over great Igbos

Igalas that northern Igbos sold as slaves are the ones being touted to have conquered and colonised Igbo land.

Below is pure history as reported by a white voyager who got the first hand information from the Igbo king that led the war. He also had the privilege of interviewing Igala prisoners of war who are ready to be sold as slaves.

Good one dear.

One thing about Ndiigbo is that we never went on expansionist wars against our minority neighbors.
It's usually the other way round. Except in case of Arochukwu which was a joint effort between Igbos, Akpa and few Ibibios loyal to Igbo .

The thought of having one over the "proud" Igbos has become an obsession on Nairaland. But it has also made some to become stupid.

Igalas in the ancient times always make incursion into the Igbo northern borders, but as ever, always have their asses handed to them in brutal fashion.

We all knew the quarters this mischief is coming from, the Igala know and respect their ogas.

Of course, Igala conquered Igbo. The history is there for all to read.

Wrong. The Igala people are actually made up historically of Idoma, Yoruba and some Igbo people. That much is reflected in their language and customs. The Igala language is classified as Yoruboid and they use Ifa divination in the selection of their king.

The onuku Igala as a man can never measure up to the Igbo man, individually at collectively. I have been with igala men for years ,and I am aware of the fact that they are naturally slow.record speaks for them selves .the whole igala nation is not richer than any single state in Igbo land.poor as muderfkers.

Igalas raiding them in the north, Ijaws raiding them in south, while Efik/Ibibios were busy capturing them from the east. These people really suffered. No wonder they are confined to that small plots of land of 5 states till today.

Primitive tribes are the ones that do raiding. Rome was raided severally by babaric tribes. Igalas were seen as nothing but bandits by Igbos throughout history and are always chased out easily by Arochukwu people like ESN chased herdsmen. Backwards Fulanis are still raiding. But none has been able to install their own king like they did in Hausa and Yoruba lands

There is a picture circulating on twitter.
It's the picture of an Ijaw man with his naked Ibo slave girls slave with ichafu on their head. The girls are about 8 in numbers different age groups. Picture was taken by a British explorer in the late 19th century. Not sure I can post it on Nairaland but the picture is circulating on twitter anyway.

Picture is hard to crop out the nudity, but I have a snap shot of the Ijaw man and two of the girls.

What I know is that there's a great link between the northern Igbo of Enugu and parts of Ebonyi and the Igalas. The royal beads (aka) is a very important part of the Igbo Nsukka and Nkanu traditional wears.

I doubt if there's any conquering par se between the two people, but I know that due to close proximity, there was a lot of intermingling between them.

Those saying this crap should go to olu mba Asaa in Anambra west they're boundary towns between Anambra and Kogi

they're not only bilingual they speak both Ibaji and Anam Anambra west dialect of igbo they even bear igbo names mostly their customs and traditions are same with Anam igbo people living by Thier side
and they're not just 1 community but about 7!

will we no say they were conquered by Anam people?

absolutely not ! Infact they like identifying with Igbos than being called Igala sef thanks to years of being neighbours with Igbo people in Anambra

there's always cultural integration in communities that are in the boundary

for instance , my wife's town in Delta State they speak both isoko and kwale dialect of Igbo
