What we need is not increasing minimum wage but reducing cost of production and improving farmers output as well as curbing security challenges. Even if states are able to pay minimum wage of N200,000, it is same as saying inflation can go ahead and destroy the economy. A work in progress needs no distractions. Anyways, no one cares about workers in the private sector. No salary increase, no pension, no gratuities, no bonus package. All from hand to mount work. And they do real work and not file and paper kind of work done by most civil servants. 3 Likes |

There should be a general minimum wage every state should pay, others can pay above that if they can If you’re not reducing the allocation to states but increasing for all states, every worker should get a reasonable wage 1 Like |

My suggestion regarding setting minimum wage, pass a law that mandates the minimum wage/salary of any organization (public or private) should not be less than 5% of the salary, benefits and allowances of the highest paid worker or CEO of the organization. This means that if the the organization is doing well or not, everyone ought to benefit or bear the brunt and not just some set of people. |

thesolutions: You don't know what you are saying. The minimum wage needs to be increased and the Federal government needs to be pressured to do things that will reduce inflation/exchange rate. Also, the minimum wages can now be based on states for state workers and private sectors in such states while we also have a national minimum wage for FG worker 1 Like |

I believe individual states should be able to decide their minimum wage while the federal govt set theirs and also benchmark d least a state can peg theirs. A state like Ekiti should not be expected to compete with Zamfara, Lagos, kano, ogun, Niger. Even though the state governor (ekiti) should work hard to be in d class of the big boys. Afterall God blessed all Nigerian states with at least 2mineral resources. So they should learn to harness it to d benefit of their citizens. |

The concept of minimum wage in a country is different from what you've stated. It is aimed at improving standing of living, ensure economic stability in view of prevailing economic realities and poor purchasing power of wages. Nigeria has one of lowest minimum wage in West Africa despite the huge resources that is pilfered and diverted to personal use instead of the good of the country. States that can afford it should pay higher than the Federal minimum wage, but it should not only be for Federal Workers. na2016: |

What do you mean by state peculiarities? There is no state in Nigeria that can not pay 500k as minimum wage. Their only.problem is corruption. The billions each governor steals is enough to pay each worker 500k every month and he will still have enough to steal. They are just wicked. |
