This is cowardice if you ask me. How long shall we continue to condole illegality in this country? The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that it is the job of political parties to verify credentials submitted by their candidates. The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday. Idowu was asked whether it was INEC that should verify credentials, which the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), claimed was with the Secretary to the Military Board. In the documents he submitted to INEC, Buhari had said that his certificates were with the board. But in the interview with journalists, Idowu stated, “I won’t speak on individual. I can only speak in general term. No, I won’t comment on individual candidate on this issue. You can’t quote me on that. “When parties file their nominees, the law requires that INEC should display those nominees for claims and objections. If objections are made to those claims, the commissions revert back to the political parties because the statutory mandate is on the parties to nominate their candidates and not to allow INEC to choose their candidates for them. “INEC would have to revert back to the political parties to say ‘there is a challenge to the credentials that you have filed to the criteria that you have cited www.punchng.com/news/its-parties-duty-to-verify-candidates-certificates-inec/ 1 Like |

INEC shall scrutinize the documents presented to them, and if there are any deficiencies, they should notify the party involved of such. The party can then make up the deficiency. If however the part fails to fulfill its obligation by a deadline, INEc would have no choice but to disallow the party from taking part in the said election. 5 Likes |

Honestly...I have read the post but it still doesn't make sense. so what is INEC's role when political parties knowingly submit an illegitimate candidate? Will they wait for a disqualification which will never come? 5 Likes |

barcanista:They should do their job, walk down to the Military HQ to look for Buhari's certificate and disqualify him if they can't find it. You could see fear (of Buhari's boys) written all over the INEC official's words, something is wrong. 7 Likes |

Collynzo9:That is not their job na, have you heard that INEC have power to disqualify? In 2007 between Atiku Vs INEC and Ors, the court ruled that INEC have no power to disqualify any candidate for election. In fact, 2007 Kogi Guber election was nullified by the court because INEC had disqualified Prince Abubakar Audu of ANPP. Another election was held in 2008. So what is the point sir? Should INEC do something that is unconstitutional? 8 Likes |

Our constitution isn't flawed. It's subjects are, such as Tinubu Buhari and co. They will never want to follow the law until it benefits their self services. This is why Lagos refuses to publish in finances and refused to abide by the Freedom of Information Act. If Buhari is a man of 'integrity' he wouldn't contest an election he's not legally permitted to contest. 2 Likes |

Collynzo9:Well the constitution is not flawed. As citizen, you have the right to verify whether or not the certificates are with the Military. If they are not, you can institute legal action against Buhari for his disqualification and compel the AGF to prosecute him for lying under oath. Anyway, how sure are you that the APC have not verified? Should they come to the media? I don't think we should boil over this when we know the right thing to do |

Total package of nonsense!!! He contested 3 times and you didn't ask for his certificate, that means you are incapable. Because he has high probability of winning, you start coming out with all this rubbish propaganda, PDP has actually lost it, I thought opposition should be the one doing this in order to win. PDP should be more than confident if truly done the right thing for the past 16 years. Na only Buhari waka come, wat of the other 8 candidate? Chai! Chai!! Chai!!! Dia riz Godu ooooo 3 Likes |

Collynzo9:I don't see anything fishy my guy, all I see are emotional judgement by the PDP apologists. It is very simply, the President is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, it is easier for PDP to extract any information they seek from the Defense Headquarters and nail Muhammadu Buhari should something fishy exist. For PDP and the Presidency not to do that shows nothing is wrong. Lawsuits will be welcomed and settled in the court, but I don't think there is any case against Muhammadu Buhari |

Collynzo9:Are you thick or what? You heard INEC telling you that the issue of Buhari certification is news to them because there was no issues in the first place and nothing to talk about although they would not discuss specifics even If such scenario existed. You don't need to be a genius to know that PDP created this story because they seemed to be running out of ideas on character assassination of their opponent and their new ideas was to create a distraction with this They said their opposition merger won't last after six months. It did last. They said after primaries, APC would collapse. It didn't, rather better organized and peaceful than PDP. They prayed for Amaechi vice presidency in order to say we told you he is driven by ambition. They prayed for a joint muslim tickets so that religion will become the issue. They got, not only Christendom but a funky pastor. They complained that taking time to make decisions for vp position is a signal that something was wrong. A silly joke. Non of the above happened, now they pray for the opponents disqualification by planting fake stories. 1 Like |
