This stuff really works in killing ticks and also keeping them protected. I used it for all 3 dogs and they are all tick free. Didn't notice any side effects so far even on the tiny little dog

You are so right concerning the spray, though the one I used was fibronyl spray (With a white carton) when my dog had tick/tick fever, It works fine due to it's residual effect on dogs.... My regards to Shadow..Lol

It will depend on how you raise the dog. Any dog can be a good protector it doesn't really matter what breed. The little lhasa I have right now will never allow anyone she doesn't know come near anyone. Shadow on the other hand doesn't really care too much. He has his moments when he wants to be protective and other times when he just plays with anyone

I'm sure the price varies but I bought this for 4000 naira. A little goes a long way. You spray it just after you bath your dog while he/she is still wet.

Shadow and the gang

I've always had dogs and cats and they have always gotten along...until shadow. I think his hyper active behaviour just makes the cats warry of him. Out of all my 6 cats there's only one that tolerates shadow( at least a bit). The rest just stay away from him.
I got babydog a little lhasa for my son because he was terrified of Shadow. I couldn't stand my son not liking dogs and thought maybe a smaller "not so extremely hyper, trying to jump on you all the time and can knock you down" dog might do the trick. And it did. He was a bit scared of her at first but by the first week they became best friends. Initially her name was nina but my son renamed her babydog so thats what we call her now. I believe she was instrumental in my son overcoming his fear of Shadow. I'm also fostering little "sheep"( yes, my son also gave her that name. I guess because shes all white so she looks like a sheep to him). All together I now have 6 cats and 3 dogs. Babydog and sheep get along well with the cats. Maybe because they are the same size as the cats.
I have noticed Shadow has been trying to establish himself as the alpha among the dogs. Sheep is very submissive but babydog doesn't allow him try to bully her. I think her saving grace is that she is female. Shadow is definitely a very dominant dog. I'm struggling to make myself the alpha of the pack. I don't know maybe i need to spray my body with testosterone. He listens to me but usually always mucking about especially when I'm around. Everyone always says its when I'm around that he starts to misbehave.

P-Guard spray is quite effective. I got my rottweiler with a case of tick and flea infection and treated with Jojo Spray and another medication I can't remember the name now but no improvement. The ticks just wouldn't go away, multiplying by the day. In fact, the Jojo thing served more like a cologne. Doggy will be smelling all nice like he/she prepping to go on a date but ticks still doing their nasty business! They soon spread to my lhasa. This comes with an attendant loss of appetite, weight loss and incessant itching. My vet administered a tick bath and this seemed to work for a while as the itching reduced a bit. Someone on NL now recommended P-Guard and I got it and it worked. I was impressed with the results.

However, I observed that P-Guard sort of only immobilizes the ticks, they drop off the dog's fur BUT do not die. This still posed a bit of a headache so I did some asking around and discovered the drug known as LYSOL Poison. A very effective drug, liquid and comes in a small brown bottle with a white cap. Funny enough, a pharmacist friend recommended it but I was skeptical a bit with the word 'poison' but he assured me that the drug was not harmful to pets if administered properly (in this case, no ingestion by the pet). We called my vet and read out the ingredients of LYSOL to him, he gave the all clear. A mixture of P-Guard spray and LYSOL Poison and pronto! This combo actually KILLS ticks and fleas. The rest is history.

I came away with some lessons from that episode.

1. Never take ticks/fleas for granted. The damage they are capable of is beyond measure.
2. I never take my dogs to the vet clinic again(unless there's an emergency. Thank God none has arisen so far). We got some respite after the tick bath was administered but the ticks re-surfaced after a visit to the vet. He confirmed so and even identified the dog responsible. He comes to the house now to administer the usual injections and all has been well since.
3. After treating for ticks and fleas, you MUST fumigate your entire house to get rid of any of the little devils that might still be lurking around. It shouldn't end with just treating the pets.

@blasiangurl85, sorry to have written so lengthy on your dog's diary. Shadow deserves his moment! I will rest here.

Hahahaha it never even occurred to me to try the jojo brand, at least it made your dog's smell nice. I usually buy frontline spray and something else in a very tiny tube you put across the dogs back ( don't know what it's called.) but since that wasn't available i tried the P-Guard instead. I will definitely make a note of the LYSOL for next time even though I hope there never is a next time. Yes fumigation is very necessary especially with so much pets around. We make sure to do it twice a year. And I will NEVER EVER take ticks for granted again
I also have the vet come to check shadow and the gang every 2 weeks. I only take them there if it's an emergency.

We also went for the ibadan dog walk. Shadow is a very bad car companion. He drools everywhere and wants to go everywhere. It's really a big task keeping him in one place while we are in the car. He stayed that way almost throughout the ride to ibadan

Hahaha yes o! For 2 reasons actually, he finds it hard eating when I put the food bowl on the ground and for some reason the other 2 dogs prefer to eat out of his food bowl first before going to theirs if i put them all down.
No luck with the testosterone spray yet, hehehehe grin

It's a make shift Elizabethan collar the vets used to prevent him from chewing on his cast. They basically cut out the bottom of the basket and attached it to his collar with strings so he wouldn't be able to take it off. Don't have any clear picture of the collar

Shadow nearly attacked my nephew

A week ago my nephew came to stay with me for a while. He has always been around shadow from the very first day i got shadow. To my surprise as soon as I let my nephew through the gate shadow just jumped on him barking and I don't know if he would have bitten him because I immediately pulled him down and told my nephew to go inside. Shadow was still growling and barking but I managed to hold him down until my nephew was safe inside.
First of all I know I don't really have the power to hold him down. A dog is 3 times stronger than a human of the same weight. All I know is the adrenaline pumping through my blood just made me hold on to him without letting go. Infact I wasn't holding him I just wrapped myself around him. After the ordeal was over I was physically shaking because I didn't really know if he would have attacked i.e bitten my nephew or if he was bluffing. The next thing shadow did was to sit right at my front and offer me his paw to shake as if to say "hey wassup? Didn't I do good? give me a high five!". I just ignored him and walked away.
The next day shadow saw my nephew and did absolutely nothing. Its like whatever happened the night before was a fluke. Was it because it was dark and Shadow didn't recognise him? But I thought dogs recognise more with scent. Or was he just testing himself to see how my nephew would react? They are back to being friends. Its a big relief for me because I was even scared to let my nephew close to shadow but he wasn't scared. He was actually curious to know why shadow behaved that way.
This experience did show me something, even though shadow was barking and fighting to get free from me when I held him down, he never once tried to bite me. He only struggled and kept howling/growling. At least I know my dog won't turn on me. Very important when one has such a big dog. Shadow can clearly knock me down if he wants to. But he didn't, at least I may not be alpha yet but maybe there's hope
