Year: 1965 First project in Nigeria: Through a capital grant agreement between West Germany and Nigeria, Julius Berger undertook the construction of the Eko Bridge in Lagos in 1965: Notice the badly-beaten construction truck used by Julius Berger in 1965 compared to their new trucks of today tells you that every business started from somewhere...... Then Africa’s longest concrete bridge and the first of its kind, the pioneering design, high quality and timely completion set standards against which Julius Berger is still measured today. The other day I saw a video of transport system in Lagos dated back to early 60s. I wept after watching that video. Literally, there's no difference between Nigeria of 60 years ago and Nigeria of today. No progress, no development. Pathetic!!! 57 Likes 7 Shares |

sarrki:Lagos was built by Nigeria ...all major project was carried out by the federal government 3rd mainland bridge to the airport to the seaport Yoruba claiming Lagos is like north claiming Abuja If yorubas was hospitable as they want us to believe ...none yorubas would full ibadan ,abiokuta and other yoruba cities but that's not the case Lagos is Nigerian project and that's a fact 454 Likes 44 Shares |

Julius started with standard! Eko bridge is still standing till date. Even though this bridge was constructed 55years ago, the design doesn't look ancient, that's why i always respect for those who extra mile to achieve spectacular success. Kudos to Julius Berger! 17 Likes 2 Shares |

mrvitalis:you crazy. Lagos can survive without the FG if Nigeria dissolves today. Infact FG stopped allocation s for four years to Lagos and Lagos survived. Question is can Abuja survive without a federal allocation today ?? 174 Likes 13 Shares |

sarrki:You hallucinate about Lagos a lot.Quiet all right Lagos is the forerunner of modern Nigeria because of it appealing physical, economic and administrative features back then from the pre & post colonial days. Meanwhile dont forget it was the mostly developed because it was the former capital of Nigeria for a very long time.As for leadership trait, Late Tafawa Balewa, President Umaru Yar'Addua, that governed Nigeria well in Lagos are not from the state. 56 Likes 5 Shares |

Powerintoxicate:Firstly Lagos can survive because over 70 years investment by all Nigerians ...it's not a Yoruba thing ....in the next 30 years Abuja would survive without federal allocation it's not a northern project Secondly there was never a time Lagos State allocation was withheld never ...it was local government allocation and it has happened to bayelsa too ...when u create local government without federal approval that's what u get ..... There is internet verify lies they told ...no body they believe Yoruba propaganda again 175 Likes 18 Shares |

sarrki: Engage him (mrvitalis), he is stating the plain fact. From 1914-1991 (73years) Lagos state was the capital of Nigeria and so like he stated FG build up Lagos to what it is today.. The past and present governors are just doing maintenance. And yes Lagos state closeness to the Atlantic ocean is the icing on the cake that made Lagos a class above the rest. But then if places like Bonny in Rivers state was the then capital of Nigeria it will be like Lagos state now. 128 Likes 10 Shares |

ImmaculateJOE: Lagos had been a contender on the West African coast for ages. Why did Benin leave nearby Calabar, Port Harcourt, Warri to go enter partnership in far away Lagos? Calabar was the first capital of Amalgamated Nigeria, not Lagos. Why did colonial administrators packed up from Calabar to go into Lagos? Lagos is older Nigeria Lagos has always been developed before Nigeria. Lagos has always been rich before Nigeria. Lagos has always been beautiful before Nigeria. Get sense or I school you! 116 Likes 10 Shares |

sarrki:See as you started the thread very well in order to learn the history behind but you use your own hands to turn it to political bashing and ethnic/ state disorder. Was the money used in building that bridge and every other infrastructures in Lagos before, during and after independence from your family, race or ethnic group Let me tell you one one thing: a patriot as you called yourself and your fellow goons is not a bigot and a tribalist in which you are the number one here in Nairaland but always hiding behind the words 'I am a patriot'. 55 Likes 1 Share |
