The police in Kano have arrested one Taofee Adekunle for allegedly operating an illegal Finance House, popularly known as ``Wonder Bank''. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Kano on Saturday.

He said the suspect was arrested on July 23, about 12 noon at his residence, located at Rijiyar Zaki, in the Kano metropolis.

‘’Taofee is a promoter of an illegal Finance House named ‘Finance Empowerment Programme Organisation with head office at Ado Bayero Shopping Complex at No. 12 Sabon-Gari, Kano.

The commissioner said the suspect, who had a network of marketers spread all over Kano metropolis, collected a total sum of N5.5 million from 328 victims with the promise to give them credit facility.

‘’The method adopted by the fraudster is to ask his victim to pay 20 per cent of the credit facility before he disburses the loan.

‘’After collecting the percentage, the transaction stops as he will not disburse the loan as promised.’’

Idris, however, said the suspect had in the past disbursed loans to some fortunate members of the public, which spurred others to become his victims.

‘’The suspect is also the initiator of the Traders Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Kano’’.

He said the suspect was presently assisting the police to get his accomplices who procured spurious government registration certificate for him.

The commissioner also said the police had arrested one Miss Joy Akule for allegedly attempting to murder her biological son.

He said the suspect was arrested on July 21, at Sabuwar Abuja quarters in Kano metropolis.

‘’She used a knife and stabbed her biological son on his stomach, leading to revealing of his intestines.

‘’The victim, an 11 year-old boy, was rushed to the hospital for treatment,‘’ the commissioner said.

Idris said the suspect, who confessed to committing the offence, said she did it to cut off any relationship with her former husband and father of the victim.

He said that as soon as investigation was completed, the suspect would be charged to court.
