Twenty four hours after Boko Haram expanded its axis of terror to Sokoto, with two suicide bombers dying, President Goodluck Jonathan is to depart Abuja on Tuesday to attend the Emancipation Day of Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica’s independence anniversary.

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Dr Reuben Abati, said in a statement in Abuja on Monday that the President would be accompanied by his wife, Patience.

“Jonathan with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad and Tobago, would review the Kambule Street Procession, the major event, on Aug. 1. ’’

The statement said that Jonathan would also present a goodwill message to the procession and pay a courtesy call on Prof. George Richards, President of Trinidad and Tobago and his wife, Jean.

“The President and his wife would attend the Emancipation Day Cultural Programme at the Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village, and be hosted to a state banquet by Richards.

“The President would also meet with members of the Nigerian community resident in Trinidad and Tobago. ’’

The statement explained that the President’s official visit to Jamaica would commence on Aug. 2, with a special commemorative session of parliament in his honour.

“He would be hosted by the Jamaican Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller. ’’

Other activities of the President in Jamaica are participation in a Mello Go Round at the National Stadium and a bilateral meeting in the Prime Minister’s office.

There would also be a meeting with the Nigerian Community and a luncheon hosted by the Governor-General of Jamaica, Patrick Allen.

The President is expected back in Abuja on 4 August.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Emancipation Day is celebrated to mark the end of slavery for Africans in the British Caribbean on Aug. 1, 1838.

It had been observed as a national holiday in Trinidad and Tobago since 1985.

Jamaica, on the other hand, gained independence from Great Britain in 1962. (NAN)

so everytime he has to travel to represnt nigeria and some stupid aboki decides to blow himself up he must stay back?do u realise that nigeria is bigger than boko haram?if some stupids morons all in the name of religion believe that blowing themselves part is the best way to show their grieviances than let them blow themselves,or can gej stop a suicide bomber from killing himself?ok tell me if he stays back what do u want him to do?u want him to go on tv nd make an address or to go to the bomb site and conduct investigtions?as much as i dont support or like him much i dont blame him harshly or rashly ,he was invited by the tt president and they are not inviting him they are inviting nigeria to a very dear occasion to them which shows how important nigeria is to them

jesus christ was this wriiten by a nigerian brain?are these the kind of stupid arguements u tender against gej then forget it he will the next election because definitely gej is more intelligent than this.do u know where he is going?do u know how many hrs flight he will take?well since u dont know and all u just want is to castigate him i will tell u.he is going to trinidad and tobago it will take him at least 12hrs to get there and kindly open ur eyes read my words AT LEAST 12 HRS ,he has to rest a little he cant kill himself becos of some opposition politicians like u using nl as a campaign weapon, then proceed to the function which will take hrs too .then meet with the nigerian community living there, hold discussions with business ppl there .then proced on the long journey back kindly remember there will be a dinner her must attend to,so can all this be done with 24hrs ?i dont support gej read my posts about it but on this one issue anyone thats says he is wrong needs to have his brain checked.so u mean everytime some stupid aboki throws a bomb he must remain in nigeria?boko haram cannot be permitted to hold the president and his responsitlties hostage ,do u even know the importance of the ceremony he is going to?i doubt if you do

that would have given boko haram more courge and power knowing fully well they can stop the president from his duties anytime they want, nigeria is greater than bh,is it everytime that bh throws a bomb that gej will stop all other duties,is gej the igp or the governor of the states involve is he the one to go on ground and conduct investigations ,do u know the function he has gone to ?do u know how many heads of state were invited?bh is only one of nigeria problems there are bigger problems than bh

@GEJ`s Nairaland thug, all you do is rant because you make no valid arguement. If i were your BOSS, i would reconsider hiring you.
Just a tip, appeal to peoples emotions and never you make a threat because gone are the days of the Military junta. If there going to be any use of brute force, your BOSS will eventually become a victim.
Just to clarify my first comment, have you ever heard of president in absentia?
I ask because i can deduct from your arguements that you lack th€ íñtell€çtuä£ cäpäçíty tö räí߀ ä r€äßöñäb£€ d€f€ñç€.

Please stop defending the indefensible. Some weeks back the president travelled to Brazil to attend a climate change conference just after another BH attack (or was it the plane crash?), we defended him, saying exactly what you're saying right now. Do you know how insensitive it appears to Nigerians if he keeps embarking on ill-timed junkets around the world just after every bomb attack?

Oh I forgot, he cares more about what the "international community" thinks of him than a honest assessment by Nigerians. No wonder he listed among his achievements that "Even Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have praised our work"; but as far as Nigerians are concerned "he doesn't give a damn".

Again I ask, why didn't he send Olugbenga Ashiru? What about Namadi Sambo?

It just remains for you guys to convert GEJ to a policeman and deploy him to the streets. For the past one month, we have enjoyed relative peace in Nigeria until yesterday when these urchins attacked some parts of the north. This invitation has been extended to the Nigerian President a month back and he gave them their word to attend. It will also be recalled that the Jamaican president had visited Nigeria severally in the past.
So what you guys desire is for Gej to stay back from this invitation in order to fight Boko Haram? As if that will satisfy haters that he is doing something?
Even if GEJ decides to go and live in Maidugri, you haters will still come on this forum to call him clueless and Retardeen. so the man no longer gives a damn about these your rantings. After all, it's big business for Kobojunkie and co.
If you look at the hours that Kobojunkie spends on this forum, spreading hate messages, you would acknowledge that it's not only a big business but a proffesion

I just pity those who have taken it upon themselves to attack every step that GEJ takes. I thank God all the same that all those destructive attacks does not stop him from achieving what he promised Nigerians. If he doesn't travel, they will say he just sits at home when he's supposed to be with world leaders, if he does it's running away from his country. I have to state here that all of you calling GEJ dumb are no where near his level of intelligence and maturity and that's the only reason why he ignores you.

If you are sensible enough, you should avoid generalisation of issues and take time to find out what the President's rights and wrongs, compare and politely offer your contributions to the development of this country.

You better shut up if you don't have anything reasonable to contribute. You just sit in your room and make comments about the duration of your Presidents stay in another country without knowing what his trip itenerary is like. I believe you just want to criticise to gain popularity. If you were constructive you should have asked what he was going there to do.
