He ll hav to learn i know
That all men re nt just
All men re nt true
But teach him also that for every scoundrel,there is a hero
That for every selfish politician,there is a dedicated leader
Let him know that for every enemy there is a friend
Steer him away from envy if you can
Teach him the secret of quiet laughter
Let him learn early that the bullies are the easiest to lick
Teach him if you can,the wonders of books
But also give him quiet time
To ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky,
Bees in the sun and flowers on a green hill side
In the school,teach him it is far honourable to fail than to cheat
Teach him to have faith in his own ideas,even if evryone tells him they are wrong
Teaach him to be gentle with gentle people and tough with the tough
Try to giv my son the strength not to follow the crowd,when everyone is getting on the bad wagon
Teach him to listen to all men,but teach him also to filter all he ears on a screen of truth and take only the good that comes through

Teach him if you can,how to laugh when he is sad
Let him know there is no shame in tears
Teach him to scoff cynics,and to beware of too much sweetness
Teach him to sell his lawns and brains to the highest bidder,but never to put a price tag on his heart and soul.
Teach him to close his ears to howling mob,and stand to fight if he thinks he is right.
Teach him to walk away from trouble when he can,and it dont mean him weak if he turns the other cheek cos he doesnt hav to fight to be a man,but let him know that sometimes he has to fight when he is a man.
Treat him gently,but do not cuddle him
Because only a test of fire makes a fine steel.
Let him have the courage to be impatient,and the patience to be brave.
Teach him to have sublime faith in himself,only then will he have sublime faith in mankind.
This is a big task
But see what you can do
He is such a fine fellow,
My son

do not make him a man too quick
he is only but a child
let process play its role on him
show him the strenght of the blue pen,
and the weakness of the steel sword
let him know,
the class room is the window to the outer world
but tell him not to jump out that "window"
teach him ethics;
to greet people he meets in a place no matter the age difference
teach him etiquettes;
to be asked to take a seat before he does
teach him chivalry;
it is ok to reach out and open the door for a woman
chastise him for wrong deeds
reward him for good deeds
for the deeds that you do are but pricesless
i know i cannot pay you
truely your reward is heavenly

What will you teach your son if it is the teacher that will have to teach him all these abi you think the teacher don't have his own son ni?

Most of what is written is what the son teaches himself through life. If a son will have to be thought all these then he's is a dull fellow.

You could not cite the original author of this.

This piece was written by Abraham Lincoln and you can see a cleaner, well formatted piece of it here:

I kinda disagree with you. People visit nairaland to see all sorts; the news; the ridiculous; and oftentimes, boring but educating pieces like this one. Judging by the number of comments here, I don't think too many people are interested in this topic (God knows I'm not). If we had topics like this one making the front page everyday, I'd think twice about coming here.
