Our company is new in Lagos developing alternative and very cost effective building solutions for those who cannot afford the luxury of todays architect's and builders construction specifications. We present to you a cost effective solution by using stabilized laterite as well as clay bricks for building both external and internal partition walls. We have been operational in other parts of the country but wish to bring this solutions to Lagosians. Mind u the compressive strength analysis of this method has been carried out in two federal universities and found to be stronger than the usual sandcrete blocks as well as approved by relevant bodies.
Please we'd like your feed back on what u think about these and if u might be interested.

Happy viewing

Thanks 4 ur response, we actually give a better finish if given the full job to handle however most of our clients have been people struggling with costs, hence end up using do it yourself methods resulting in a not too perfect finish as we were not involved in the entire project process.

As per your inquiry Ill work on ur request and give a present day Lagos estimate asap, however do note that a little design change can result in major cost differences. Cheers

Sorry 4 d delay in coming back to this thread. However in answer to your questions, the bricks come in various sizes but for the two pictures b4 the last, they were built using 9inch interlocking brick types needing no mortar and could be left unplastered. The size is 300mm x 230mm x 120mm which is 1ft length, 9inch width and 5inch high.

Hence for a 9inch thick wall of 3metres (10ft)high and 1metre (4ft) long you require exactly 82.5nos of our bricks; while you need 28.6 nos of normal 9inch hollow blocks.multiply this by ur total wall length

However our bricks cost less than N50 a piece (Presently) and saves you the cost of motar joining, plastering or painting if you don't want to because they are quite presentable as they are.
Calculate that and see your savings eventually

*Note Lagos State govt. Has fixed the price for sandrete blocks makers presently to sell at N200 for 9inch. Find out if you are in doubt.

dor75: Hi

For those asking for the cost of blocks needed for a type of flat, please note that designs differ and very little alterations could result in big cost changes, hence your designs might be required first to help us quantify your needs. However we also have architectural design services aimed at uptimal cost savings if u r interested

Are these laterite block the interlocking type that Hydraform is advertising?
What type of machine is used in producing these bricks/blocks
If they are not interlocking, how do u joint the blocks together? Do u still require mortal?
How do u handle conduit fittings?

Thanks for your question. In reply, these blocks bear similarity to the hydraform models in terms of material content and compressive strength however they are not made using the popular hydraform machine.
1. The blocks are compressed and moulded using a manual mechanical press which can also be mechanised. Ours are made using the Cinva-Ram machine presently manufactured in various but few countries including Nigeria where it is built by a brilliant india-trained specialized mechanical Engineer

2. we have various options of brick types which include both the motar binded-flat-faced bricks as well as the grooved interlocking brick type. Which is exactly shaped like the hydraform ones. The buildings in picture-post no.10 above utilized the interlocking brick types needing no mortar, while the building in post no.12 above utilised the mortar binded bricks which requires mortar.

3. Electrical conduiting is possible by chiseling out cuduit grooves for cable-pipes on the brick surfaces manually by a careful workman just like its done on non hollowed sandcrete brick types and sealed back with mortar. This is also possible for water supply and waste water pipes if done by a well skilled workman.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

How much is the manual press with the interlocking brick mould? How many bricks can the mould make per day?

I am really interested.

just an observation, all pics are single storeyed buildings. Does that mean the bricks are not capable of multi-storeys?

silky: just an observation, all pics are single storeyed buildings. Does that mean the bricks are not capable of multi-storeys?

Using the "framed structure" method of construction, the bricks can be used as the curtain walling component for even multistorey buildings.
Presently we have a commission for a storey building, however we have to respect the clients desire of not wanting it publicised.

Below is also what we can achieve with our bricks in terms of multi-vertical levels
