petokey: Chikk and linearity got it right. But for putin bracket before solving you ar disqualified meaning u ar wrong.5+5 + 5 - 5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 5 x 3= ?

Using bodmas, u simply do ur multiplication first.
5*3=15

so we have this 5+5 + 5 - 5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 15
then u do ur additions and we will arrive at this.
15-15-20
subrating finally gives u negative 20(-20). QED

wow! Instead of 95% failure, i got a 100% failure. Una be olodo. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. SORRY NA JOKE O. May nobody insult me back oo.

U don't even know the solution, see ur olodo calculation; there are only two -5 in the question, with five +5 and a 5*3 which is 15. Rearrangin' u'll have 5+5+5+5+5-5-5+15
Giving you 25-10+15
Which gives you 30 as the answer. QED I don't know how u got ur -20 ans. Simple addition and subtraction u no fit, Bullcrap

Bravo! But u ar wrong. Period. Am the ref in this game and ref hav the final say. Did i tel u to rearrange? Their ar many ways to solve this which wil give u a wrong ansa.
Not only bullcrap, its cowscorpion. Hahahahahaha

It's a mathematical question, so I don't have to use ur 'rules' but mathematical rules....Mathematics doesn't lie, so u can't just force the answer to be -20 with ur own rules. Use mathematical rules, Period!

I doubt if u can solve a quadratic equation with dis low mathematical IQ of urs.....Hahahahahah..laughin' in Greek. Use ur calculator, If u don't know the solution!! Yeye boy
Re: You Think You Can Solve Maths? Try This. by ceeboy: 9:28am On Aug 19, 2012
seriallink got the answer. In the ruLe of BODMAS addition and subtraction can be interchanged and the signs only affect the number immediately in front of it or else a bracket is involved.
Here is a screenshot of the solution using python IDLE.

If the OP requires more proof I would gladly show him that his solution is seriously flawed...even if you decide to do addition first you forgot that you were adding 15 and -5 which gives you 10(the last portion of the equation after the multiplication) and not 20.

Cheers people.

@OP, i didnt fail it o. As i said earlier, i put the braces there so that people will understand how i grouped the like terms. What else should i have used to show people like seriallink my workings? Ur solution is same as mine but without the braces that would've explained it well, seriallink still doubts u.
@seriallink, u're making a very embarrassing argument. I hide my face in shame. U were one of the first people that mentioned BODMAS in this question yet u cant use it. Bodmas rule says addition should be done before subtraction. Pls, do all additions first before subtractions and tell us what u got. (dont forget to show us how u did it so we can all learn from the almighty seriallink who has a high IQ to solve quadratic equations).

I never expected this from u, Chikk; I thought u wrote in one of ur threads that u are a CS graduate, I don't know why you are arguing unnecessarily for a simple BODMAS question. Check my previous posts and u'll see how I solved the simple question with enof explanations. Infact, u are the one embarrasing urself, coz if elementary arithmetic like this would confuse u, then I don't know how u managed to pass courses like Algebra, Calculus, Stats n Mathematical Method back in the Univ. What a shame!

As for u Mr. Talk talk, u are nothin' but a cretin or a fuckin' half baked graduate (If u hold a degree at all). I'm arguing bcoz I know what I'm sayin'; mathematics doesn't lie, so kindly prove me wrong. Fuckin' dummy....well, ur idiocy wouldn't bother me bcoz I'm sure u are still strugglin' to pass ur SSCE...

5+5+5-5+5+5-5+5*3
Rearranging, it can also be written as: 5+5+5+5+5-5-5+5*3
Applyin' BODMAS, it becomes 5+5+5+5+5-5-5+15
Which gives us : 25-5-5+15
15+15 = 30. I bet, u need ur primary sch. Books again, I tire oh.....

Agreed. I dont doubt u. I be olodo. In fact, i chop my school fees for school. But pls, for the benefit of other viewers, i challenge u to do what i asked pls. follow the bodmas rule and do all additions before subtractions. Then tell us what u got. If u're smart enough to do multiplication first, u should know that addition is next. Trust me, if u still get ur 30 (or any other number at that), i'll apologise.

i've never insulted anyone on NL before but this opportunity is too good to pass up. OP you be confirmed MUMU. you dont even know the answer to a question you asked. even if you do addition before subtraction, dont you know that a minus before any integer is part of the integer? for example 10-5+15=10+10=20 and not 10-5+15=10-20=-10. like i said earlier BODMAS people, BODMAS. seriallink dont mind them. sorry OP i just couldn't resist insulting you.

brokoto: ...for example 10-5+15=10-10=0 and not 10-5+15=10-20=-10

brokoto, can you please re-analyse this your analysis?

How can 10-5+15=0
Re: You Think You Can Solve Maths? Try This. by chikk(f): 12:13pm On Aug 19, 2012
Hmm, na wa o. Everyone is intelligent. See another logic. I stand to be corrected not insulted. Tell me u're using any other mathematical rule, i may accept but not BODMAS!

petokey: 5+5 + 5 - 5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 5 x 3= ?
@chikk, 5*3=15 right? the question then becomes 5+5+5-5+5+5-5+15. ok now do the additions first. the 1st 3 becomes 15. then the question becomes 15-5+5+5-5+15. the next addition will now be -5+5 which is zero.the question now becomes 15+5-5+15. now do the last addition which is -5+15=10.the final question now becomes 15+5+10=30. abeg e don do na.

BO(DM)(AS)...If you do your research properly you would see that this is the original form of order of operations. Meaning: The order for DIVISION/MULTIPLICATION and ADDITION/SUBTRACTION are not precise since dey are inverse operations. So when they appear side by side in an expression the order of operations is from left to right(atleast thats how I remember it in my beginner programming class).

So solving your problem after the multiplication would give you:

5+5+5-5+5+5-5+15=
10+5-5+5+5-5+15=
15-5+5+5-5+15=
10+5+5-5+15=
15+5-5+15=
20-5+15=
15+15=
30
So that how BO(DM)(AS) is used....seriallink is still the first person that solved it correctly.

i hope seriallink is not the one liking this post cos this is far better than what he posted.

@brokoto, understanding that u're solving left to right, thus taking both addition and subtraction at same time(not having one preceding the other), i'll say thanks for the correction. It was worth the time.

Brokoto, thank u for insulting me. But do u know what is killing all of you?
Oversabi sabi. Una knowledge for algebraic sums, indices and calculus wit equations don dey make una feel say una be GURU.
Una dey claim guru, where una dey wey una mate dey win cowbel maths competitions.
This is a simple aritmetic 4 primary five pupil. The question is from LACOMB MATHEMATICS. How many of you know dat primary text book.?
This is d kind of question that is seen in bank's apptitude test for employment. Una go go there go dey form guru dey full paper dey get glorified zero. Una go say them no give una job.
Wey na una Bleep up.
Anyway! I learnt alot from u guys but the fact stil stands. My target of those that wil fail was achieved. Simple and short. Gbam! Period! QED!

so what exactly have you said now? did seriallink and i not get it or what? you got your 95% failure rate because you added to the people that failed it. nobody was claiming guru here. you are simply too proud to accept that you do not even know the answer. i'm not even in the field of maths or physics or computer. it's just simple BODMAS guy. accept it and close this thread, you bleeped up big time.
