with the rapid growth of the abrahamic religions in africa and the crusade against the Gods of the land, what do you think is the future of the ATR.

I do think the ATR will never go to extinction. This is just my take on it.

Its future is already in the past.

It has no future. It is dead.
and for your information, there is nothing like african traditional religion, almost all the communities in Africa have a different form of Caricature they worship. . each town to its own dead god. . .and only the physically dead still delight in worshipping a god made of Clay soil.

In Nigeria today, go and see how backward these towns and villages are, their gods have blocked the eyes of investors, foreigners etc..

Unfortunately, these same people still go to church on sundays.. #laugh
You'll find them in most of all these old generation churches like ECWA, Catholic, C A C, Baptist etc..

Some even set aside a "special" day to worship these gods, you'll find them dressed in pitiful attires, dancing with an accursed masquerade. . Well I really pity these people cos most of them most times end up becoming NOTHING in life. The same poverty that killed their forefathers always tend to strike them too.

There is this book I read (can't remember the name), and this reveal all the secrets of idol worshippers in many parts of the nation.. ..most of these towns indicated in the book are in a very pitiful state today. The indigenes traded their destiny in exchange for poverty, deterioration and stagnancy and the disheartening thing is they're ignorant of the repercutions

I'll name some of these towns if you want me to. . .

i respect people's opinnion but i am going to disagree with one of your points.

For you, the poverty in a land is due to the worship of these Gods. But that isnt true. If the worship of God in a way that the christians dont is the reason for the backward, why is that countries that have had other religions are doing good. China, rome, greece, india, brazil etc have at one point in time and even now worshiped in a way that the christians dont.

Try better to convince me that you are not attempting another crusade like you have always done.

Yes I clearly understand your points. But do you know, mostof the Traditional worshippers in Nigeria are known for evil? Witches and wizards emanated from these idols. our forefathers killed innocent souls for sacrifice, people's blood were shed and used on these idols..
Masquerades beat, torture and molested many..
Peoples animals were stolen, The kings enter into various demonic convenants etc..

Thank God for our great men of God that came to our rescue. . Thank God for Evangelist Reihard Bonnke* and other anointed men of God.

Yes, Christianity in its worst colour: intolerance. The religion has succeed in categorising nonadherents as opposition and demonized them.

Jesus sacrifice was human sacrifice also, the rationale behind most of these is for the wellbeing of the ppl, and that was their understanding of it. Christianity is a strange vile and foreign affair to Africa, we were never able to sychronise our true values with it.

@OP ATR is dead.
Re: What Is The Future Of The African Traditional Religion (ATR)? by Nobody: 11:37am On Aug 24, 2012
are they known for evil or you have delibrately termed them evil by you aggressive disagreement with their practices which can also be questioned. Who is worse, is it the old woman accused of witchcraft without proof other than her old age or the pastor that accuses her and set her on fire!

Talking about killing people, which religion is the world has killed more people than christianity and islam? The reason you kill do not matter all that matters is that a life is lost. Still talking molestation, it is not the ATR priests that sleep with children neither are the ones who slap people in church.

Talking about the masqurades do you know that in yoruba land, ladies praying for the fruit of the womb do go behind the masqurade to dance and they get their children afterwards.

No, Many are embracing african traditional religion and i am sure that with their current evolution they will flourish in decades to come...It is Christianity and Islam that are certainly endangered..

ATR will never die.
I understand that there is a reality in Africa, influenced by centuries of demonization and lies of the conquerors ... but if you give a look to America (South, Central and North) will see that ATR is possibly one of the most practiced religions and fastest growing.
Added to that, I believe that one day, Africans evaluate the dire lies and prejudices that they have told the slave; Africans will evaluate the terrible poverty and suffering that the colonialists and their false gods have imposed on them ... and Traditional Religion not only occupy the place it deserves, but also re-evaluated the ancient traditions that are the true identity of Africa.
My respects.

the reason we went into decline is not because we are a failure. it is because we do not proselytyse and greedily seek converts. there is no official conversion be it my religion or a relatively advance form of Pagan religion such as Shintoism or Hinduism or Ofa Orisha or the Ancient Roman/Greek Religion. because to be Pagan, you need to be born as one. these are the true religions of the Earth as decreedt o the different tribes around the world. even today Yoruba rleigion is being practiced by Yoruba descendants in South America, for example.

however now it is time we take a leaf from the enemy's page. .

The future of ATR is bright my brother, time will tell. Owing to the current inadequacies and trends in some religion (Xtianity and Islam to be precise.) People will soon begin to shift their allegiance.
I could be wrong...

@acid. There are very rich traditionalists who got their money in an honest way. And there also many xxxtians who are poor. So the ATR is NOT an agent of poverty.

The will not go into extinction but they will go underground. Going underground is by no means new to them, anyway. They've been there before and if needed, they will return there. But it will never go extinct.
