Big B1,

FYI: The president has made this decision simply to reunite the nation and start all over.
Retaining Ribadu is more or less retaining an expired failure.
A new establishment must be implemented and to accomplish this goal, we must make difficult decisions and during this process, many will cry and whine; but we must stay focused and never deviate.

Decision is decision; we must adjust and move on!

In my book, this is one of the best decisions President Yar'Adua has made in the past 7 months. We must give him credit and support.
We must also pay special attention to Ribadu's replacement and ensure that he's on the right track and remains there.

What Nation is the president reuniting? What a hoax. Is Nigeria a Nation? "A fragment of a WHOLE". A country Where you have the presidency running from one cabal to the next. Credit for what, for been so docile and ineffective. " Pay special attention to Ribadu's replacement and ensure that he's on the right track and remains there" How do you achieve and attain your goal? When the so called Obasanjo deviated from his campaign rhetorics against money grabbers and his daughters fake name for contract procurement, what did Nigerians do, and who monitored the Prefect?

"ONE OF THE MOST STRIKING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A CAT AND A LIE IS THAT, CAT HAS NINE LIVES"
How many lives does Mr. president and Ibori have?

"YOU CAN TELL THE IDEAS OF A NATION BY ITS ADVERTISEMENTS"

SHAME! SHAME!!

I'm still trying to figure out why the IG will sit in his office and decide that the Chairman of EFCC needs to go on a study leave while he is on duty at the EFCC.

Day by day, things that happen in Nigeria become bewildering!

Public hospital dey for naija again sef ! security issue na palaver as armed robbers dey increase by the day! No developmental plans and we are wasting time fighting against one of the things that is atleast working in nigeria!

isnt that pathetic !

if Bro Mike( lawyer of criminology) and Yara dull is not as corrupt as their other cronies, which one be them own with RIBADU !!!

QUOTE:Ibori does not come before Nigeria also

So I don't see why the President will have to replace the EFCC boss because he arrested Ibori a fortnight ago. That is simply criminal.

C'mon man! dats a very disrespectful way of expressing ur feelings. Ribadu's removal does not mean the President wants to pervert justice. As a matter of fact, i think he wants dues process followed. so everyone should be calm and watch the wisdom of our dear president.

Thats exactly what happened, the President of the federal republic of Nigeria thinks Ibori's interest if bigger than that of Nigeria.

Ibori has nothing to confess, every Nigerian knows he used part of his loot to finance Yaradua's election. So what is the cover up about. The President is weak, period!!!!!!!!![

Ojuju Calabar says that there is great strength in the weakness of our President. Why are you all so taken up with Ribadu? Mr. President wants to make Nigeria a better place and in his opinion keeping Ribadu in a post where he is not functioning optimally is not one of the ways of making Nigeria a better place.

ribadu right now is not competent to proceed with the next level of war against corruption. this is because the next level will involve personalities that he has been loyal to. yaradua needs people that are "legally blameless" to do this. if we dont expect yaradua to be like obasanjo then lets allow him lay a solid foundation so we dont have to repeat this error of selective justice over again.

cheers people!

How Ibori Runs Govt From Kaduna Prison

           Print Friendly

          Our Correspondent

The popular saying that "he who pays the piper dictates the tune" is evidently manifesting in the policies and programmes of the Yar’Adua Administration.

A senior staff of the presidency told LEADERSHIP last night that though the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, was still cooling off in Kaduna prison over alleged corrupt

practices, he, to a very large extent, still dictates some crucial policies and programmes of the Federal Government.

"Former governor James Onanefe Ibori of Delta State may be at Kaduna prison but his influence on the Federal Government is even more formidable today than it was before May 29, 2007," said the source.

Chief Ibori is widely believed to have invested close to N9 billion in the electioneering campaign of the Yar’Adua/Jonathan presidential ticket. And immediately after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) successfully picked him up in Abuja he had vowed that he would teach Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the executive chairman of EFCC, the lesson of his life, even before hearing on his case against the anti-crimes agency starts.

"Those of us who know the huge influence Chief Ibori wields on President Yar’Adua were not shocked over the problems Ribadu is going through. It was Ibori who influenced the appointment of the minister of justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa, and Sir Mike Okiro, the inspector general of police," our source added.

The source said Ibori was virtually running the police force through Okiro, adding that the police boss was carrying out the former governor’s order that all policemen should be withdrawn from the EFCC.

Apart from working in line with the dictate of President Yar’Adua and Chief Ibori, LEADERSHIP checks revealed that Sir Mike may have acted very fast to avoid the kind of treatment a former inspector general of police, Tafa Balogun, suffered at the hands of EFCC.

Our correspondent gathered that Sir Mike might have got an inkling that Ribadu was preparing a stinking massive dossier on him as a prelude for his arrest.

The police boss was said to have unsuccessfully attempted several times to lobby Ribadu against prosecuting some suspected financial criminals.

Our correspondent who visited Kaduna prison during the week also, confirmed Ibori’s dominion over the affairs of the Delta State government.

With several Delta State owned Jeeps parked in the premises of the prison, serving commissioners in the state pay frequent visit to the prison.

"Ibori lives like a king in that prison," said the source, adding, "Because of the sheer number of VIPs who troop to visit him, you have to book for an appointment through his aides."

Recently, the embattled Oghara-born politician was reported to have procured for the prison a generator set to ward off the nuisance of power outage in the prison yard.

"But for the steadfastness and integrity of Justice Lawal Shu’aibu of the Federal High Court, Kaduna, Chief Ibori made an attempt to infiltrate the judiciary recently," a senior security officer attached to the Kaduna judiciary said.

A well-known political associate of the former governor was heard bragging at the Federal High Court, Kaduna, recently that the Federal Government is their government because, according to him, "Ibori spent billions of naira to help Yar’Adua come to power."

But our source was emphatic that President Yar’Adua may not be fully aware of the schemings going on.

"They are just using the fact that they sponsored his campaign," the source said.

In his current seeming battle to save his political career, LEADERSHIP investigation revealed, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, governor of Delta, has proven to be a loyal political son of Ibori.

With a deep pocket, Dr. Uduaghan, a first cousin of Ibori, was said to be oiling every move to get his predecessor out of the prison.

It will be recalled that the Uduaghan-led Delta State government recently instituted a legal action against EFCC, with the aim of restraining the anti-financial crimes agency from prosecuting Ibori.

No case will be dropped. If anyone do, it does not bother me because it will be revisited. Remember oputer panel - If not only that the govt then did not have the will to organize properly, empower it and implement its recommendation.

If I were Yar Adua, I will do those things I will like to remember for, rather than all these propaganda (if not hide and seek games). I have not lost faith in the pressident. I hope he takes up the courage early. Me, if elected I will not plan on four year term, just 1 - 2 years in all is more than enough fix things. I mean this is 7th month am counting oooo!

Why Ribadu must go, by Col Umar
By KENNY ASHAKA, Kaduna
Thursday, January 3, 2008

former Military Governor of old Kaduna State, Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (rtd) has stirred further controversy on the redeployment of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Umar said the EFCC Chairman should quit the job because his appointment was irregular in the first place.
He said although Ribadu would deliver on any task assigned to him, his low level experience needs the guidance of an honest leader.

“I am sorry to say that such environment was most lacking when Nuhu was prematurely appointed as Chairman of EFCC on the insistence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; definitely due to their common geographical extraction”, he added.

The former Military Governor made this assertion while fielding questions from newsmen in Kaduna in what apparently was his first reaction to the EFCC saga .
Why Ribadu must go
While many say that the decision to post Nuhu Ribadu out is aimed at frustrating the ongoing trial of the President’s former governor colleagues, Umar thinks otherwise, anchoring his belief on the exigencies of the time.

According to him, “Nuhu found himself operating under the tutelage of a most dishonest boss, President Obasanjo. He was under the false impression that Obasanjo was sincere in his fight against corruption. And who would not be deceived considering the saintly image of Obasanjo up to the point of his first election in 1999 and the beautiful rhetorics and declarations he delivered in his inaugural speech in which he promised to restore the years the locust had eaten, to step on toes and have no scared cows in his war against corruption. When therefore Nuhu was appointed, he accepted the challenge with great zeal, some will even say overzealousness
“But very soon, it became apparent to most observers that former President Obasanjo had some other plans for setting up the EFCC and such plans ran counter to the fight against corruption.

“Instead, the EFCC was slanted to fight against the opponents of former President Obasanjo and to also use the institution to cover up Obasanjo’s monumental corruption. I have it on good authority that the EFCC Chairman was troubled and thoroughly embarrassed by Obasanjo’s hypocrisy and double standard. I still cannot understand why Nuhu couldn’t take the honourable path of resignation once he became aware of the President’s antics. I was shocked that the chairman could bear false witness that Obasanjo was not personally corrupt.

He vouched for the integrity of Obasanjo at a time when he had caused to be stolen well over 50 billion dollars through highly inflated contracts, illegal duty waivers and concessions, mismanagement of the Federations Account and scandalous NNPC transactions and a most criminal, opaque privatization of public treasures to his business associates and cronies. When Obasanjo embarked on total genocidal war against his political and business opponents, the EFCC became the most useful and loyal force that was used.

It acquitted itself disregarding all the recognized war conventions. A good example was the corruption advisory list issued on the instruction of President Obasanjo and his party, the PDP which led to the illegal disqualifications of all strong opposition members. It is a measure of the extent of that illegality that many election results are being reversed by tribunals including those of five state governors and still counting”.

Where Ribadu failed
In assessing the EFCC, Umar said although the anti graft body had carried out the anti- corruption war with some measure of seriousness, it does not deserve the credit being showered on it.
Asked if the prosecution of a former Inspector General of Police and former Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State and the recovering of over N500 billion from criminals were not laudable achievements, the former Military Governor shot back, beginning with the case of the former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Tafa Balogun.
Umar said the culprit in the case was not Tafa Balogun, but President Obasanjo who he said aided and abetted the former IGP to embezzle the funds.

“I ask you what was the Police Force annual budget for the whole period that Balogun headed the force? How was it possible for the IGP, working directly under the President who declared war against corruption, to embezzle over N17 billion without the knowledge of the same President? Tafa Balogun was used as a scape goat. He served Obasanjo’s purpose which explained his ridiculously light sentence of six months mostly served in hospital and his house.

“The case of the former governors of Bayelsa State and Plateau goes to prove our claim that the EFCC was used to torment the opposition. They were only victims of the Obasanjo-Atiku feud since they remained loyal to the Vice President. Otherwise, how come they were the only two governors targeted in any serious manner in the fight against corruption?
“I ask you why was Bode George not prosecuted by the EFCC? The president prevented this from happening. In fact, even when Nuhu established a prima-facie case against Bode George, the president threw back the report on the pretext that the EFCC was not specific in identifying individual culprits. The EFCC Chairman was forced to exonerate Bode George by ridiculously claiming that Bode was only a Board Chairman and not the Chief Executive of NPA and could therefore not be held responsible for any contract fraud, as if he is unaware of the powers of the board in contract awards which of course are higher than that of the management.”

Speaking on the monies recovered from those found guilty, Umar said it is yet uncertain how much has been retrieved. He, however, called on the EFCC to expose those from whom such monies have been recovered, saying he is reluctant to praise the anti-graft agency.
He referred to the CNPP’s allegation that over N2 trillion perished under Obasanjo’s watch and wondered what the N500 billion recovered by the anti-graft body means to Nigerians.
Obasanjo’s hypocrisy, Ribadu’s gain
Umar’s response to the question on the coincidence of Ribadu’s redeployment and the prosecution of former governors? He said Ribadu’s appointment was irregular in the first place going by the Act which set up the EFCC. Quoting from the Act, the former military governor said: “the Act provides for a Chairman and Chief Executive and Board members representing the security services.

“The representative of the Police must be of the rank of an AIG. But when Nuhu was appointed, he was only an AC, meaning he was too junior in rank and therefore expected to attended many police and other professional courses if he is to remain in police service. The NIPPS happened to be a requirement for promotion to the top echelon of the security services. So, the exigencies of the police service require Nuhu to proceed on course. Please do a check on the seniority of Nuhu in the police.

It is Obasanjo that catapulted him to the rank of AIG over his mates and some of his superiors so as to unduly exaggerate the achievements of EFCC under him in its war against corruption. It is all part of Obasanjo’s dishonesty and hypocrisy. He decided to decorate his generals after being routed in a war. He surrendered to corruption, but he still has to publish another book on His Command.”
Why Obasanjo’s policies must be reversed

People also see the removal of Nuhu Ribadu as one more evidence that Yar’Adua is intent on reversing all the policies of Obasanjo’s administration. Could this not be true?
To answer the question, Umar went down memory lane, enunciating some of the policies of the Obasanjo administration. In his estimation, Yar’Adua’s government in incapable of reversing all the policies of that administration.

“But there is real and urgent need to reverse all those bad policies and they are so many. You must remember that the main reason Obasanjo was elected in 1999, against all odds, was to pull this country back from the brink. It was expected that with his saintly image which has since been debunked, he would restore the years that the locust had eaten.

He would reverse the rot. Luck played into his hand. The nation witnessed an unprecedented rise in its finance, thanks to the high rise in oil revenue. It was like God had blessed us with manna from heaven. What did our messiah do? He decided to restructure the nation on a very weak and shaky foundation. Our social, political and economic structure has been built on cronyism, nepotism and greed.

His policies have encouraged primitive and criminal appropriation of public wealth by a few to the detriment of the many. Obasanjo’s policies have pauperized majority of Nigerians. Over 70 percent of the people have fallen below poverty line while less than two percent of the population controls over 60 percent of our nation’s wealth. He has pushed the nation further on the precipice. It is therefore in the best interest of the nation that such policies are reversed.”

COOLKABOOM

what is your source of UMAR interview, please post it.

But I will put a small note of caution on what UMar has to say. Col. Umar is a man a lot of ordinary Nigerians have respect for his ways including me. but i must disagree with him and I hope he is not doing this because his name is being touted for the Job. During the many years he was a govenor under IBB, he and hiss boss did not fight any corruption they actually as in (IBB) licenced 419Plc . they did not bring any proceedings be it selective or otherwise. That is history for you, you can't do anthing about it and can't change it either. it is an established fact.

If he said what he said I will agree that some apply and some (majority)don't apply.

But, the best way to look at it is from the ordinary man point of view is this, all these selectivity and EFCC OBJ tool is a thief last line of defence. whether or nor RIBADU EFCC is OBJ tool or they are selective in their prosecution is neither here nor there. If those people who are being prosecuted and convicted are not corrupt they will not be charged or found guilty if charged. Is like I hear ATIKU was saying sometimes back that he agrees that he(ATIKU) is a thief but it was him and his boss doing it together as in OBJ

The other thing is that I don't think even UMAR himself will be prepared to put his life on the line like RIBADU has done  when threathend or may refuse millions of dollars in bribe but at least we know RIBADU did those two things. That is what history would record about him (RIBADU). It is no good just being charistmatic and honest as UMAR has been but having the bravery to put ones live at risk is another matter, and this is not a military war or tactics here. Is like fighting Al-QADA, convetional weapons cease to be effective.

Now, this is where Col. UMAR theory flies out of the window completely, IBORI is in OBJ circle so for the government to be sending RIBADU to 'school' when he has arrested and charge IBORI to court clearly demonstate that he (RIBADU) is not OBJ tool or selective justice. This is the IBORI who we understand singlehandedly bankrool Yar A'dull's election or selection.

By the way what is UMar take on OBJ handing power to Yar A'dull, that is fraud on Nigerians. So when we want to start arguing imperfectness of choice as in qualification, i beg to diasgree because ability and determination to do the work far exceed those useless qualification because all the big police chief with all those qualification are registered thieves.

By, the way where was col. Umar all this while and not speak up about EFCC as being a bad organistaion or RIBADU.

I will say it a thousand times. RIBADU is one of the best  things that happens to Nigeria because everyone should remember before then no Governor or IGP and the likes have ever being brought to court of law in Nigeria for corruption let alone found guilty. Even during Umar time as Military Governor of Kaduna state they never did. And by the way his choice as a military Governor then is to do with ability as he was a Lt. Col then and there a lot of senior officer ahead of him and finally even he as a Military Governor is an abberration of the constitution. Nobody voted him into office.

If he UMAR want he can take over ICPC and start with his former boss IBB and OBJ and others and bring them to open court and get conviction and stop talking about non qualification of RIBADU when getting the job done. Also he UMAR should remember that RIBADU was confirmed by the NASS before he start the job full time so all those thing is too late to argue.

I dare say that over 90% of people in public life are corrupt so if anyone has evidence of anyone being corrupt please send it to EFCC, ICPC or the President, NASS etc.

TRying to say rubbish about RIBADU is like trying to give a dog a bad name in order to hang him. like in the word of RIBADU ' when you fight corruption, it fights back' that is exactly what people like UMAR are doing.

IF selected thief have not stolen, they have nothing to fear. I think we should go back to 1979 to investigate all the people in public office.

I hope Col. Umar has not said those things and if he has said it to go home, reflect on it, come back and retract the statement and apologise to Nigerians, or he can come and tell Nigerians how is going to arrest and prosecute all know executhieves  starting with IBB who actually started wholesale corruption in Nigeria. and not forgetting his brother from Sokoto state Alhaji Sheu Shagari, Umaru DIKKO, OBJ and others.

Nigerians we never forget all those that rape her in broad daylight. The worst regime in Nigeria without a shadow of a doubt is IBB as of today. At least during OBJ period, Nigeria has $50 Billion dollars foreign reserve, during IBB we actually took IMF and SAP nonesense through the back door. those are facts. OBJ actually pays all the national debts as well. OBJ major failure is inability to fix electricity and build and improve infrastructures, tinkering with 3rd term nonsense, not mentoring credible succeesor and installing a Yar A'dull of a person who lacks direction. Those are all facts.

I also think he's a rare blessing to Nigeria
and I hated the headlines that hinted of his new posting

but having said that,

I think Nigerians love conspiracies! Or rather conspiracy theories

Of course there are always conspiracies, but governance shouldn't be reduced to only intrigues esp not with a person like Yar'Adua whose integrity is not in contention

All the people here who are cursing Nigeria and Yar'adua cos Ribadu was told to go to NIPSS, what are they going to say if and when Ibori is still sentenced to jail - like he's going to be sentenced - despite the absence of Ribadu.

Umar lacked credibility to speak about Ribadu. The records of both of them in public office speaks for itself. It is on record that Umar and IBB looted Nigeria without conscience. It is also on record that Ribadu served Nigeria with high integrity, truthfullness and absolute dedication. Ribadu pursued the war on corruption with vigour and strenght while Umar and IBB pursued the embezzlement of Nigeria Money with shamefullness. This is the truth and not be contested. Period!!!!!!.

I will eat my words and apologize to Yar Adua. Having said that and knowing this useless country like I do,
the only place Ibori is getting sentenced to is home! Yar Adua doesn't have the guts to fight corruption in
Nigeria. If he did, he has the wrong people around him and appears too blind to see anything. The only
advice he seems to be getting now is that virtually every policy announced or implemented by OBJ was evil,
so its reverse, reverse, and reverse. Soon he will reverse into a brick wall.

We are still waiting for his several blueprints and emergences to be declared on key sectors, even if they
eventually announce them, the government doesn't have the "stars" that can execute. It is a clueless
administration and its becoming more apparent each day.

We are still waiting for his several blueprints and emergences to be declared on key sectors, even if they
eventually announce them, the government doesn't have the "stars" that can execute. It is a clueless
administration and its becoming more apparent each day.

now that's outrageous.have u ever considered that sometimes, the best way to lead is to get out of d way and let d rule of law take control.i understand his stance has not won him many fans because he seems to pay too much attention to d supreme-court and editorial comments.

he inherited the mess from OBJ and he is surely and steadily puttin in place structures to ensure that never again do we have to endure such an evil-regime. 4 once, lets shift attn from 'stars' and build an enduring system that is guided by principles and simple decent norms. give baba go-slow a chance, abi u get another option.

What do you build an enduring systems with, with dunces and men of questionable integrity
or with "stars" and those whose integrity can not be impugned? For God's sake what kind of
enduring systems that one can honestly build with the current AGF?

As usual, you can keep blaming OBJ for any ill-advised policies being made by Yar Adua even
2 years from now, while he continues talking about his blueprints, emergencies, and 7 points
agenda to nowhere. While I supported Yar Adua's emergence, I have lost complete faith in
his leadership abilities, he is simply out of his league (Nigeria is not Katsina).

Absolutely rubbish.
This is just the beginning; a man must plant a seed before celebrating the harvest season.

Give me a break, the man has only been there for 7 months and you're ready to give up?
You sound like an original nonstarter.

Don't you?

And all this is to not prosecute the former government officials who looted from the people. What money can do to people, it's simply ridiculous! We will never progress in life as Nigerians! You have looters like Sam Egwu who milked his state dry and now running for PDP chairman, and others who are senators or still part of the government. I simply don't understand the logics of it. If people like Sam Egwu, who looted over billions of Naira are still trying to embezzle more, where is Nigeria going? Sam Egwu himself is a BILLIONAIRE in UNITED STATES DOLLARS! The worse thing is, Sam Egwu, having a PhD in Agriculture, came from  extreme poverty and was a poor man before he became the Governor of Ebonyi State. Is it the mindset of black leaders to undermind their brothers and sisters, depriving them of education and the proper means of building an establishment so they can prosper in life? The white man has done enough to destroy us, so why do it to ourselves? Sam Egwu is one of the richest people on the planet today because of corruption. From having a 5-star hotel (Gracecourt Resort), to purchasing every bit of land he could get his hands on, he now sits on his throne as he patiently waits to become the PDP chairman. I guess being OBJ's lapdog may pay off after all since Ribadu has been sacked. But give it time, and y'all will see the turning point of what's going to happen. People like Sam Egwu is a plague to our country, and they need to be weeded out, extracted from our government, and take away everything that belongs to them, so they can see what it feels like to be deprived. You have the KING OF CORRUPTION, OBJ, the TOPDOG of all of these looters. I don't even know where to begin with him, because he's a total disaster!

Yes, I am an original non-starter - whatever that means!

Oh GOd,see who is talking about common sense.do you have common sense?.people like you rejoice when a thief of international order uses ill-gotten wealth to do one thing or the other in the society just to present himself as a philantropist.Nobody would ask him how he makes his money.my brother wake up ,remember the bible says the wicked runs when no one pursues him.At least he would have stood before OBJ to say VULTURE SEE MY HANDS NO MEAT.Those who went to EFCC were not killed.Food on africans table my foot;what of Tafa,Alam, who also put food on nigerians but they were found to be thieves.MY brother wake up and let us call these thieves by their surname no matter how highly placed they are in the society because they have milked us dry.ARE YOU STILL SLEEPING?. I hope you dont come from the place where robbers,419 kingpins ,ritualists are celebrated and given chieftaincy titles.
