Webhosting should be the most critical decision to make when you want your site online.

Recently i partronise smartweb.com.ng by purchasing both domain name and hosting from their website for 1yr through a nairalander friend who i pay to upload an smf script in portharcourt, after somedays the site starts showing data base error-all means to make either smartweb.com.ng or the friend to fix it is in vain and the website www.gethotinfo.com remain blank till now.

Although the nairaland friend later send smartweb.com.ng a complain ticket and later call me to say i should login to the root folder to do some thing to fix it but am a novice.

This suituation will push me to learn webdesign for i dont like the way and manner am being treated.i wanted to hire some1 for a good forum design but i have been disapointed some people are really rude.newbies just be wise>goodafternoon

I checked your site up and clearly the script is not connecting to the database.

It could be one or all of the following

1. Smartweb has killed the database somehow (I won't be surprised, nothing good has come out of them from the users here)
2. The web designer has killed the configuration file that holds the database connection details (very unlikely)
3. Mysql has crashed on the server you are being hosted on (Again, I won't be surprised).

Really, the problem you have is a very easy fix if only you were not dealing with a ghost webhosting "company".
If you have login details of your cPanel I could look at it for you.

Smartweb used to be bad, but they are coming up. I think that was after their news got to the frontpage.

honestly if you ask me.. smartweb is doing fine.. that is what i use even now. but the truth of the matter is perhaps your friend doesnt know what next to do. If it had to do with the database, simply recreate d database and reinstall the forum with the new database info.. This i don't see as a problem

U should ask your web designer of programmer to try the software with a local server. If it works. Then dis should be d problem with your website.

1) is either ur webmaster does not know what he is doing.

2) the database server is seperate from hosting server that makes it imposible to use Localhost as host server.

3) database configuration is not configured properly.

Dual core and others thanks for all the support u render,my webdesigner an avid member of nairaland saw our post here and called me and have fix it-he reapply for fresh DB it was discovered i delected some mod without first uninstalling them.i thank you all and mytech friend who fix it.

Bro this new problem is not a host thing. Its most likely one of the mods you have installed to give you clean URLs. Really I have no experience with SMF so I can't be of great help.
