In Ezekiel 18:20, It's clearly written that, the soul that sinneth, it shall die; a son shall not be punished for his father's sins, neither shall a father be punished for his son's sins. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him & the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

My question now is: why was Eli punished for the sins of his sons (Read 1st Samuel Chapter 2 for details) ? My Christian Brothers & Sisters, I need elucidation of these biblical passages. Thanks

Eli was not punished for the sins of his sons. He failed to rebuke them properly. Let's say he spoilt them.
His sons died in the battle field. When Eli heard his sons were killed and the ark was taken, he fell down and broke his neck.

He wasn't punished for their sins? God wasn't happy with him according to scripture which was why he died that way. It was a curse!

If you wish you may say God punished him indirectly although it was his sons receiving the wrath. Whatever children suffer, the parents also suffer inadvertently.

As the high priest it was his responsibility to sanitize the sanctuary activities of all priests irrespective whether they are his sons or not. He relented in this sacred duty allowing his sons to commit crimes right on hallowed grounds. So yes it was his sons sins that doomed him in as much as he undermined his own position and authority by letting those sins go unpunished.

Eli was punished for the sins of his sons. While his sons were doing all sorts of attrocities, he failed to rebuke them.
God told Eli about the attitude of his sons. Instead of Eli listening to God, he told God to do what He pleases since He is God.

I believe sir,that it was because he did nothing to correct his sons even though he knew of their sins.

I wasn't punished for his sons offends. His sons died for those own offense Eli died for his own offences also . God had warned him . He had opportunity make amend but he honored his sons emotions above God.

1 Samuel 2:29
. . .Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
