Van Gaal to replace Vogts!

AS Nigerians continue to rue the dismal performance of the Super Eagles in the on-going Africa Cup of Nations, football authorities have begun to search for a new coach as the fate of German Coach, Berti Vogts, has conclusively been decided.

He has to go. This is authoritative. Very reliable sources confirmed to Sports Vanguard that even Globacom, the communication giants who foot his $50,000 per month salary, has given the green light for him to be excused.
Already, Dutchman, Louis Van Gaal, has been penciled to take over from Vogts and lead the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers as well as lead them to the 2010 World Cup to be hosted by South Africa.

To assist Van Gaal in the new dispensation would be former Skipper of the Eagles and Coach of the Hawks of Togo, Stephen Keshi.

Samson Siasia was also mentioned to join the new technical crew to bring vim and vitality to the Super Eagles.“We have to do something fast about the national team, because the World Cup qualifiers is around the corner

Here's another report from THISDAY:

Frustrating results from Super Eagles first two matches has forced both officials of the FA and those from the Sports Ministry to commence in earnest the search for a new coach.

THISDAYSports gathered from officials of the FA that the German’s case has already been decided and even Globacom, which bankrolls his salaries have become dissatisfied with his performance and are ready to pullout of the deal, which has now necessitated his exit.

Already front-runners have emerged in the race for who will replace him. Louis Van Gaal, who once coached his country’s national team and Ajax Amsterdam in their glory days as the man touted as the man to take over the job.

Togo coach, Stephen Keshi, also got a mention as possible replacement for Austin Eguavoen, who has been accused of not guiding Vogts well under the guise that the buck stops at the table of the German, while Samson Siasia, who was a former assistant in the team, may also be drafted in to be part of the technical crew.

“We have to do something fast about the national team, because the World Cup qualifiers is around the corner and we don’t want what happened the last time around to happen again. There is need for serious job to be done on the team before the qualifiers so that we have a solid team for the country that will qualify for the first World Cup that is being played in Africa.

On fears that the country will pay heavily if it dispensed with the services of Vogts, the source said there were technicalities in the contract that can be explored without the country or sponsor having to pay heavily for sacking the German. Top NFA officials were locked in a meeting on Sunday over happenings at the Nations Cup and how to avert the backlash when they return home.

Men, that man is a good coach, very good I should say, I really do hope he gets the job, he really can perform the miracle, Nigerian football desperately needs.

If the new is true then it could distabilise the team in Ghana. What of if Mali loses to the Ivorians and Nigeria whoops Benin and progresses in the tournament to win the cup? What would now happen to Vogst?

Yes,even Jose Mourinho is in line for the job grin Who would want to manage a bunch of mediocrities like the Super Eagles.I guess AZ Alkmar, people may argue, its not really much bigger than the Super Eagles but I can't see Van Gall, giving his personality, coaching those nitwits.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Our problem isn’t about replacing the coach; our players have to be committed which I don’t think they are.

We have had lots and lots of coaches in the past and yet nothing good has been gained. We claim to be the giant of Africa yet the last time we ruled the continent was fourteen years ago. We couldn’t qualify for the 2006 world cup because our players weren’t taking away matches seriously; they werent committed. Would you now blame it on the coach.

From my own point of view, this isn’t a technical problem; But in order to start getting good result, we have to look for well committed players who would put their country first and then go for a good coach.

This news from the NFA is very distracting and irresponsible, talk of medcine after death, who got us into this sorry pass that we are in(did u sau NFA).
Just like a previous poster said what if a radical turn around happens in the EAGLES AND THEY EVENTUALLY GET TO THE finals.IF NFA brings a millilon VAN GAL/MOURINHO things will never really work out unless the right pepple with true passion for football are in the NFA, I knew the FA was joking when they allowed this man to be operating from europe,so just like i said if we bring ten mourinhos but with the pmentallity of the pple at the present NFA we are joking we have to be sincere with ourselves, the football house itself has to be put in order then we will move forward from there,

The Nigeria Football Association has promised to review the contract of Berti Vogts following an outcry over the German’s performance here at the 26th African Cup of Nations.

The Chairman of the NFA, Sani Lulu, said the association would look into the terms of Vogts’ contract after Ghana 2008.

He said, “The conditions of his contract have not been fully implemented and we’ll be looking into some of these things when we leave Ghana.” “We’ve been cautious because of financial implication, so as soon as we have the funds we’ll be able to do what we should.”

Lulu however refused to explain what money had to do with the issue.

Vogts, whose salary is being paid by Globacom is based in Europe, refusing to stay in Nigeria to monitor home-based players.

Lulu added that Vogts’ decision to stay in Europe would also be looked into so that the former Germany defender would be able to develop local talent.

“I agree that he has not stayed in Nigeria long enough and we want that to change. That was one of the reasons we didn’t employ Philippe Troussier, who insisted that he was going to stay in Morocco while working for Nigeria.”

Lulu, whose board allowed some of the players to stay back with their clubs while other federations insisted on having theirs early in camp, absolved the NFA of any blame in Nigeria’s poor performance in Ghana.

He said, “We’ve done everything we can, but I’ll still apologise to Nigerians on behalf of the players. I’m sure nobody back home is happy with their performance.”

The Eagles need a huge favour from Cote d’Ivoire to qualify for the quarterfinals.

A draw between Mali and Cote d’Ivoire, who play in Accra also on Tuesday, would see both Francophone countries going through regardless of the result between Nigeria and Benin
