I had put up a topic in relation to the above in the travel section but didn't get an response.

Am getting an international drivers permit in a day or 2 and I wanted to find out so things

1. The Uk and there insurance issues, would it be ok for me to drive someone's car who's insurance doesn't cover me

2. Will the RHD be an issue since My country is LHD

3. Do I need any other documents for back up if I get pulled over?

These are just a few questions I want to clarify...atleast am sure the US would be less strict on these issues

You should get the international drivers permit, but you must always present it with a valid Nigerian drivers license when required or pulled over. The permit let's you drive in the UK for up to a year from your date of entry after which you would be required to obtain a UK license.

All other rules of UK driving still applies, thus it won't be right for you to drive a car without an insurance cover... and it doesn't matter that Nigeria uses the LHD system.

You would have to declare your license status to the insurance company, I can tell you, the price you would be quoted would be sky-high. If you get pulled up by the police, you will have to produce your drivers licence + your passport, to ascertain you have not resided for over a year.
Your licence, cannot be converted to a UK licence. If you intend to drive after the elapse of your international driving permit, you will have to sit for a driving test. (theory + practical)
NB : If you drive an uninsured vehicle, you could be imprisoned or fined. The UK operates a camera detection system (ANPR) Automatic Number Plate Detection, to detect uninsured, untaxed, hot-listed cars etc etc etc
