Kx: Go and open your own church, leave the British Anglican to do their thing. Sure the Cardinals of all countries including Nigeria decide in the Selection of a new Pope. I guess we have about 4Cardinals in Nigeria now. All Cardinals 80yrs and below from every Nation has a say in the Catholic appointment of the Pope. I think the Anglicans are beginning to wanna say something but the church is far Older and way past their suggestions. Its autonomy exists in England. My 2kobo. |

afam4eva: Is the Archbishop of Canterbury to the Anglican church what the Pope is to the Catholic church? No madame; Queen/King of England is the supreme leader of Church of England.(Anglican church). He/she is the equivalent of pope for the catholics. He/She endorses the prime minister's recommendation of Archbishop of Canterbury. Below the archbishop of Canterbury comes the archbishop of York. Below archbishop of York comes Nigerians, the likes of Desmond Tutu etc. |

Na wah for una. What has okoh said wrong. Heaven is everybody's business. He said d right things. The onlything that is constant is change. Spiritual issues shd be handled spiritually not one governor appoint a bishop wheda anglican or not. One who supports homosextuality. If dat bishop is spiritually alive like Okoh, or has his own say i am sure that issue of homosextuality wd not pull thru. We are church of Nigeria and we can also decide not to host archbishop of canterbury. That is not to say we cannot meddle with the spiritual wellbeing of any church. Catholic or zion! Its only anglicans dat can stand and say what is amess. Sodom is happeneing in catholic but who born them to voice out when pope is God. |

funkietunm: . So?I presume u r a catholic I don't want to say at this point because it is irrelevant to the topic being discussed. The Anglican Church was founded just to allow King Henry VIII get away with adultery... Whether I'm Catholic or not. Or do you have any other version of its origin? |
Re: Nigerian Anglican Opposes British Govt. on the Selection of Bishop of Canterbury by italo: 8:51am On Nov 02, 2012 |
Ninapha: Its only anglicans dat can stand and say what is amess. Sodom is happeneing in catholic but who born them to voice out when pope is God. Please don't blaspheme only because you want to get at Catholics. The Pope is not God. Go and read the history of the Anglican Church. It originated from not being able to stand and say what is amiss. You can't start now to stand for truth when your foundation is false. That house is built on sand. |

1. I AM AN ANGLICAN 2. Yes. The Bishop of Canterbury is the head of the church. 3. What the Pope is? We don't run that form of setup. Infact each Bishop Is largely automous in his Diocese. afam4eva: Is the Archbishop of Canterbury to the Anglican church what the Pope is to the Catholic church? |
Re: Nigerian Anglican Opposes British Govt. on the Selection of Bishop of Canterbury by mapet: 12:53pm On Nov 02, 2012 |
@Oga Nagoma, Even if you don't understand some things and operate from ignorance, please furnish yourself with better understanding from the article/report. The system is that all countries are required by the church of England to make recommendations to the 16-member commission. So what is embarrasing? nagoma: We are talking of the Archbishop of Caterbury not the Archbishop of Badagry for God's sake. Archbishop Okoh should save himself and others the embarrassment. |
Re: Nigerian Anglican Opposes British Govt. on the Selection of Bishop of Canterbury by mapet: 12:56pm On Nov 02, 2012 |
@ Oga Kx, 1. I am not Catholic, but I do know all Parishes make recommendations in one way or the other. All Cardinals are part of the election process.... 2. "Leave the British Anglican Alone"- I am persudaded to support you there. I think the mistake we made during the days of Akinola was to rescind/delay the decision to of Final sessession for the Church of England. Kx: Go and open your own church, leave the British Anglican to do their thing. |
Re: Nigerian Anglican Opposes British Govt. on the Selection of Bishop of Canterbury by mapet: 1:00pm On Nov 02, 2012 |
@ Oga Ninapha, 1. They don't know much and probably need some schooling in this area. 2. We are still part of Church of England in a way and we have a spiritual obligation to continue to pray, mediate and guide in all this..at least till we decide to finally leave them for good (if we so please) 3. Homosexuality is a seed we in the Church of Nigeria believe the devil has planted to destroy the church. We have not been pretencious with it, we have NEVER denied it and it is on record that no church has fought this battle in the world as much as the church of Nigeria. Unfortunately Homosexuality in the church has crept to all denominations. It's foolhardy to blame Catholics and Anglican. Ninapha: Na wah for una. What has okoh said wrong. Heaven is everybody's business. He said d right things. The onlything that is constant is change. Spiritual issues shd be handled spiritually not one governor appoint a bishop wheda anglican or not.
